And so it begins

478

And do it begins.  For years we were subject to ‘Martin O’Neill leaving’ stories, as everyone from local pundits to Tory Party leaders wanted him to move south  Now they want Brendan to leave his beloved Celtic.

This is the reality of success, the alternative is anonymous failure.

I don’t know Brendan’s inner thoughts, but I know he invokes plans for years ahead at the club when taking to his employer. He may or may not be settled in Scotland, but he sounds it.

How the F*** did this shower manage to deprive us of two points?

In fact, how did either of these two showers manage to deprive us of two points?

They will be a threat in two weeks .

The only threat in the SPL has been from our own poor performances. The last time we played them was a case in point.

There must be no repeat….they will be up for it , so we must show them we are the boss.

In fairness to our team though we played badly in both games Beaton was brilliant as StJohnstones twelfth man.

Compare the physical approach StJohnstone have tonight to the one at Celtic park.

Davidson booted and clawed all game against us only getting a late booking.Tonight he gets a booking for a good tackle in which he clearly won the ball.

  4. Dreadful stuff from St J, is it the managers fault, who knows, the players are not even trying a leg imo, so it looks like the only teams that will try agin the hun are us, Hibs and Killie, had Steve Clark not been there they could be discounted, how sad is that in 2018 they still rule the roost, I hope they all burn in hell, slowly and in extreme pain.

  5. They managed 23 fouls against us at CP, which should really have been 30 plus had Beathun did his job properly.

With a compliant ref at Celtic park they had21 fouls and got away with many more that were not given.

Keeper booked at pen ….Kane booked for kicking out…surprised they weren’t reds ;-)

  9. FAN-A-TIC

The player capable of playing such passes on a regular basis is Nir Bitton, and he’s injured…plus not exactly a fan or manager favourite…

Ntcham is capable also but his skills are wasted in a quarterback position

  10. More or less committed his second foul in the first half , butcher said his next might be a booking ….aye right ye are he must have committed another six since

I’m glad we don’t live in one of these foreign countries where players deliberately throw matches…………..mibbe.

  12. DAVIDOPOULOS on 27TH FEBRUARY 2018 9:14 PM

Ntcham dropped a few over the top on Sunday which was a few more than usual. Trick is get Moussa to come short then drop balls in behind for willing midfield runners or wingers coming off the lines.

Re your other point, i think Ntcham is better slightly deeper in a position where he can pass forward to Rogic and Roberts who are better at receiving the ball and turning.

  13. DAVIDOPOLOUS

There are plenty of players at Celtic capable of playing diagonal balls not just Bitton.

I think KT can swing a long pass and have seen him do it often.

It is a matter of mindset and our strict adherence to possession limits us to far to many safe passes.

We have pace to burn in this team but rarely use due to players receiving pass standing still and often returning it to where it came from.

By playing the long ball occasionally you force opposing teams to vary their defensive tactics by stretching field and create space for passing game to flourish.

Our system is to one dimensional and compacts field making us easier to defend against.

  14. Not that we needed telling but it’s feckin galling the level of cheating that goes on in the scottish game. If it’s not the huns past and present, the referees with their different rules for celtic games, the other teams deciding when and when not to try a leg ie sheep on Sunday to S J tonight or the sfa, it really is a wonder how successful our Celtic have been. Makes you think how much more we could have been if there was a just a level playing field. Aye I know, dream on.

Problem our suits have is they know fine well that a level playing field and we have no effective competition, we need competition, it’s the only reason I can see for them allowing the cheating etc.

  16. I think Armstrong has been a big miss this season as his running off the ball into positive areas poses questions for opposition defenders.

Not so sure about Rogic as he is a little static and has no defensive qualities.

He has the skill and can be sublime at times but to often disappears .

  17. From DanielO’Connel18

St Johnstone have committed 5 fouls in the first 45 minutes tonight and have been shown 3 yellow cards.

Against Celtic, they got 1 yellow for their first 19 fouls, and committed 24 overall.

On track for 10 fouls tonight.

  18. THE EXILED TIM @9-31PM

    I agree.

Frustrating but like you i can’t see any other reason for accepting the cheating.

  19. FAN-A-TIC

I think you underplay the amount of judgement and skill that goes into a long distance diagonal that gets the attacker in behind the opposition. The best I have seen is Van Dijk and honestly believe that the only other player in our squad who comes close to matching Bitton in the current squad is Ntcham but as I say his real talent is in other areas.

KT with cross field balls? Yes he is good at hitting the man on the other side of the pitch but not necessarily “releasing” them.

  20. There will be absolutely no complacency when we play the scum in a few weeks. The hope kills them. The crash back down to earth will be all the harder from the dizzying heights they’ve reached with a team they can’t afford.

Focus on tomorrow first. Game face on Celtic……

  21. Hello Hoops

Not been on for a while

I cancelled Sky cause it was poor value for money when moving house at end of last year.

I’ve had to tell BT tonight I’ve raised a complaint. To start cancellation process. Horrible presentation on football. I’d rather watch something else. Cmon the hoops. Finish this league ASAP HH

  22. DAVIDOPOLOUS

    Not underestimating anything.

Accuracy would be excellent but just the act of forcing opponents to stretch the field would be my desire.

We often complain about no space to work with when the lack of is a direct consequence of our system and playing style.

  23. Fan-A-Tic

It just goes to show that with all their cheating, be it the sfa, the refs, the banks, the other teams lying down to them, they are still pish, how much have they blown on trying to emulate us, the mind boggles, but they will take comfort in knowing that they are indeed the people :-)

I don’t think the league is won, but especially with the return of quality, it is very likely we will win it. So we are really in a phase of prep for the CL quals- wonder how BR will approach it – bed as many players in as possible or get a settled first 11 humming like a bird ? Wouldn’t know what to do myself.

Weather change is it? Autumn starts here on Thursday and it was 32 degs

at our young lhads training last night, another 30 today.

Forgot my wee Celtic cap, now my auld heids like a roasted tomato.

Oh! and the Broonie Hulk got a good showing with them all flying into

tackles, throwing themselves into somersaults, and all sorts of shot with a

sniper scenario and then getting up and performing, ala our captain, very

    funny.

I don’t know, I think Ntcham’s real skill is similar to CMcG’s: receiving the ball, turning and putting the attackers into a threatening position.

My ideal midfield is Brown, Armstrong and Ntcham – Brown and Armstrong provide the running power and Ntcham gets the the defence retreating with his use of the ball. Beyond that, I have the slightly perverse point of view that the other midfielders in our squad are absolutely required to fulfill the “horses for courses” requirements. Lots of people say we need to thin out the squad, not me though I think the variety we have is a good thing…just need to keep them fit…
