ANGE INJURY UPDATE ON CELTIC FOUR

STEPHEN WELSH is struggling for Celtic’s Sydney Super Cup encounter against Everton on Sunday morning after suffering a head gash in the 2-1 loss to the local side this morning.

The centre-back was left groggy after a mid-air clash and had to have the injury bandaged before being helped off the field to be replaced by teenager Bosum Lawal in the 78th minute.

Asked about the severity of the damage to the former Scotland Under-21 international, Ange Postecoglou replied: “I don’t know mate. He is getting stitched up just now.

“You could see it in the moment [it occurred], but it was more about getting the stitches in.”

The Hoops gaffer also explained the no-shows for keeper Joe Hart, defender Moritz Jenz and striker Giorgos Giakoumakis with none of the trio involved in the match day squad.

Postecoglou hopes to have all three available for the weekend when the action moves from the Allianz Arena to the Accor Stadium.

The 57-year-old Greek-Australian, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “Joe was a bit sore after the last game. Giako had a bit of an infected toe so he missed training. Both, hopefully, will train and be available for the Everton game.”

On Jenz, he added: “We are going through concussion protocols with him. He’s passed all the tests, but we will need to see by Sunday.

“He is training individually at the moment. We are looking at a couple of things, but, hopefully, if he gets through everything properly he could be training on Saturday.”
