Ashley could fulfil Tarantino vision

948

Did Dave King honestly say there would be a “forensic investigation” before newco, under his control, would repay Mike Ashley’s £10m loan?  This, before the second tranche of the loan, which the club will need to meet payroll, is paid, and while Ashley could acquire an array of property and IP assets by simply not transferring the money when expected.

Unnecessarily provoking the source of short-term finance your club is dependent on is a bizarre tactic.

If it is indeed “the end” for the current newco board, as King promises, said board have a matter of weeks to secure whatever assets they can for those who have previously invested in the club and provided loans.

The crux of King’s comments are reported as:

“Would we pay [Ashley] immediately, I don’t think so no. We would complete a forensic investigation.

“If David Somers’ indication is correct that there has been some malfeasance then it is possible that the club would have a claim then I would attach the money and make a claim.

“If any individuals behaved improperly then it is important that they are held accountable.”

There’s a scene in Pulp Fiction when an unfortunate predator, “Z”, is informed that some African Americans are about to “Get medieval on his ass”.  We don’t get to see what this means but stay tuned, between now and the EGM, Mike Ashley might just provide a demonstration of what Tarantino had in mind.

Remember, Ashley is not at Ibrox because he fancies being the next David Murray.  He is not interested in the godforsaken world of having to run a football club in Glasgow, he’s happy to allow others to carry this burden.

He may well allow King to ‘win’ the EGM, but the spoils of victory will be very much on his terms.  Trying hard not to imagine Paul Murray in a leather mask now.

Today is World Cancer Day.  This disease has taken too many from the blog already, not to mention millions across the globe.  There is a lot of good news, though.  Progress is being made, but many in the developing world need access to simple preventative treatments, methodologies and information.

The preventative message still needs to get through to a great many in the developing world, before it’s too late.  Here’s a video outlining where the battle is at the moment:

They could play the Newcastle first team and still miss the playoffs. Good enough for them, shower of keech.

  2. Not sure many of our players would actually get into the Inter team in terms of quality. I especially worry about our quality in front of goal..

However, they are a shambles. So we have a chance.

Thanks for providing those stats for the CoS. Quite an alarming drop off in numbers of people attending on Sundays. I wonder if the increase in numbers of Catholics attending between 2001 and 2011 has anything to do with the number of Polish immigrants living in Scotland. I’m sure you’re right about the effect of Catholic schools. Being a Catholic, I’m happy that our numbers have remained constant but I think we have a huge challenge to face in the future due to diminishing numbers of priests.

  4. The Newcastle 5 must have been promised 1st team football if fit at the huns. Doubt they would come otherwise

  5. The Newky 5 story was not leaked it came the presser for the reith game on Sunday Agent Macdowall willing his paymasters to bin him. Don’t be surprised to see Peter Beardsley roll up till the end of season. { good celtic man }

Minor point of order. I’ve seen the RC church, the COE and protestantism all described as “religions” this morning, whereas they are in fact all divisions of one religion, which is of course Christianity.

  7. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy

There is no doubt that immigrants have increased numbers of all religions probably apart from CoS.

The numbers are interesting. The next time the census is done the majority of Scotland will probably not be Christian.

Having chuckled shamelessly at the monkey jokes, I have to say that I am uncomfortable with the use of that term for Sevcoites. I well remember many of them calling the Argentinian soldiers the very same word during the Falklands War. I hated the term. There was also a huge stushie during the 1980s in the USA when the top American Football commentator (his name escapes me) referred to one of the Miami Dolphins wide receivers as a ‘monkey’ . I believe he was as he suggested that he wassking a reference to his athleticism when he used the term but it was the last word that should have been used to describe a black American whether intended as a compliment or in a derogatory way. I hope we will drop usage of it. Continuing to do so will backfire on us and will be used against us.

    ——————————-

But we’re not directing this at a black athlete – we’re directing it at sevco fans. There is no racial element of any kind attached this (very tame) jibe. Can you explain your attaching a racial tone to this?

    ……………………….

You’re being a bit disingenuous here, aren’t you? My post was perfectly self explanatory. You know Argentinian soldiers having been called monkeys by some British and Scottish Neanderthals. Black American footballer being called a monkey resulting in widespread outrage. Spot the connection? We have seen the ability of the smsm to totally misrepresent all things Sevco and all things Celtic. I don’t think it’s too wide a stretch of the imagination to suggest that they might start to misrepresent Celtic supporters as racists no matter how far from the truth that might be. Many others have expressed concern at use of the term – probably because they know of its’ dubious connotations in some places.

    ———————————–

Disingenuous? I don’t even know how to spell the word! There is absolutely no racist implication in inflatable monkeys being used to poke fun because it is absolutely clear that it’s not being directed at a racial group. It is being directed at sevco fans for being the monkey idiots that let their club die. Spot the difference with your example of a black athlete being called a monkey?

If people don’t understand racism then they need educating.

BTW – is it OK to take inflatable sheep to an Aberdeen game? Or are the Dons fans gonna start taking offence in a fit of faux outrage like the RST? Clearly not – because they’re not a bunch of monkeys.

    ………………………………………………….

    Now you’re deliberately obfuscating :-))

I never made any reference to the GB or their inflatable monkeys on Sunday. I would give the Green Brigade carte blanche to upset the Huns in anyway they see fit. I had gone to the trouble of saying that I had been chuckling all afternoon at the monkey jokes on here. All I was suggesting that it could backfire on us due to the smsm misrepresenting Celtic supporters as being racist for calling the Zombies “monkeys”. I supported my views by citing two examples of how the term had been used/ misconstrued as being racist. One Hun was quoted as saying that thet had to get their ‘coloured’ (sic) supporters to complain about our use of this racist term by Celtic supporters. I was not moralising. I just said that I was uneasy about it. Then I saw a post from Mike in Toronto which mentioned bears. I then remembered that they called themselves bears but objected to us calling them monkeys because it dehumanises them. They can’t dehumanise themselves and then complain if we do it by calling them the name of another animal.

“Obfuscating ” – you keep using these big words to confuse me! ;-))

I understand your point that something like this could be misrepresented. However I would say that almost everything we say about them is misrepresented and this is no different. The RST claiming there is something racist about this is nonsense and needs to be called out as such. Just as the term “hun” is being termed sectarian is nonsense. Is “hun” is sectarian then let’s see them explain which sect is being referred to? The obvious answer is they can’t and it isn’t – it’s used to refer to sevco fans, whatever sect they belong to. Similarly with latest attempt by the RST to create seomthing from nothing. If a particular racial group is being targetted let them tell us who it is. Again, they won’t because it doesn’t! The RST are turning themselves inside out in an attempt to manufacture offence at this. I’d suggest the reason for this is that, in fact, they recognise it for what it actually is – we’re laughing at them.

I know that you feel unease (’cause you told me so!) but I feel extremely comfortable with this. Anyone attempting to twist meaning in this manner has already lost the argument.

  9. For me this news about the loan players adds weight to my theory that The Rangers players contracts have big appearance fees built in and that the Newcastle players are still getting paid by Newcastle.

This could be saving The Rangers several thousand £ per game.

I agree we have a chance. Everything as we know is relative, so even if they are going through a bad phase, they still have the quality to damage us.

I know we appear to be improving, but have shown time and again that we leak goals against european opposition.

I’ll take anything that keeps us in the tie going over there, but I’m still excited at the prospect of meeting them again.

I saw there were some tickets available yesterday, I hope they all go and we can get a full house under the floodlights

McDowall is being worked from the back by King. This will all be designed to enrage Sevconians, encourage boycotts, and put further pressure on the board ahead of this EGM.

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Although I think Kojo is one of the best posters in analysing our players, particularly our young players he is by no means infallible.

IMO he is wrong about KC, but he is so far of the mark regarding Scott Brown that there is the proverbial chasm between his thinking and my own.

In spite of personal tragedy, Scott Brown has grown into a fine captain and his commitment to Celtic, both on and off the field is undoubted.

Along with Craig Gordon, Scott would be the first name on my team sheet and his true value can easily be measured by our performances and bite when he is absent.

Years ago Rangers said he was too small to make it, I wonder if Ian Black is still of that opinion.

It won’t be written in to the agreement, so that rule won’t apply. However doing it verbally goes against the spirit of the laws, so any clauses to that effect will be breached.

Are we still beating ourselves up over calling them names. To me it’s simple, I call them monkeys, as in who are the monkeys playing this weekend and did the hun hoards shame themselves again. I don’t expect to change anytime soon….

I’m a wee bit nervous of the Dundee game this weekend, can’t put my finger on why but just think this could be more difficult than it should be…anyone else have that feeling ? Or is it down to being a Celtic supporter and not feeling that we have a divine right to win every game ?

  22. West End of East End

Agreed. Scottish Cup and anything can happen. I think the state of the pitch will be important. It is clear that Ronny has created a team that needs a decent surface to play on. He wanted to train on the Killie pitch before our recent game there and it was clear that on a good surface against Sevco we would have taken at least half a dozen off them. I expect clever clubs to have their pitch in a poor state when Celtic arrive to give them an advantage with our style of play.

Dundee are a hard team to call this season. Their results are up and down but they have a fair bit of experience in their side and have two very able goalscorers.

I think we face a tough match and wou;d be delighted to get a 2-1 victory or similar and be in the hat for the next round.

  24. Where does Charlie fit in when he comes back? Biton has stepped in and looked good. Armstrong has also arrived which means Ronny needs to juggle Commons, Johansen, Brown, Biton & Armstrong before he can consider Charlie.
