Ashley could fulfil Tarantino vision

948

Did Dave King honestly say there would be a “forensic investigation” before newco, under his control, would repay Mike Ashley’s £10m loan?  This, before the second tranche of the loan, which the club will need to meet payroll, is paid, and while Ashley could acquire an array of property and IP assets by simply not transferring the money when expected.

Unnecessarily provoking the source of short-term finance your club is dependent on is a bizarre tactic.

If it is indeed “the end” for the current newco board, as King promises, said board have a matter of weeks to secure whatever assets they can for those who have previously invested in the club and provided loans.

The crux of King’s comments are reported as:

“Would we pay [Ashley] immediately, I don’t think so no. We would complete a forensic investigation.

“If David Somers’ indication is correct that there has been some malfeasance then it is possible that the club would have a claim then I would attach the money and make a claim.

“If any individuals behaved improperly then it is important that they are held accountable.”

There’s a scene in Pulp Fiction when an unfortunate predator, “Z”, is informed that some African Americans are about to “Get medieval on his ass”.  We don’t get to see what this means but stay tuned, between now and the EGM, Mike Ashley might just provide a demonstration of what Tarantino had in mind.

Remember, Ashley is not at Ibrox because he fancies being the next David Murray.  He is not interested in the godforsaken world of having to run a football club in Glasgow, he’s happy to allow others to carry this burden.

He may well allow King to ‘win’ the EGM, but the spoils of victory will be very much on his terms.  Trying hard not to imagine Paul Murray in a leather mask now.

Today is World Cancer Day.  This disease has taken too many from the blog already, not to mention millions across the globe.  There is a lot of good news, though.  Progress is being made, but many in the developing world need access to simple preventative treatments, methodologies and information.

The preventative message still needs to get through to a great many in the developing world, before it’s too late.  Here’s a video outlining where the battle is at the moment:

Dundee A was indeed one of our worst performances. Kris Commons had his poorest day in a Celtic shirt, and it took a player like Griffiths, better versed in tackling agricultural opponents, to get something from the game.

But. A fair fraction of the team that day has vanished. We had a central mid of Kayal & Johansen, and Mcgregor and Berget on the flanks. I doubt we’ll be that bad on Saturday.

Ronny has a settled side now, at least. I still hate it, but it’s settled.

When have Rangers or Sevco ever paid heed to rules or laws?

They do what they like when they like.

Yes trying to get them to conform to the rules is a bit like trying to train a monkey.

  4. It won’t be too good for morale down Sevco way with these 5 playing.

Looks like the end of PLG’s time when Bazza’s mates weren’t playing.

I would start with the team that started the last game unless of any injuries that I don’t know about. The defense picks itself, unless Lustig is injured then Matthews comes in, keeping the same midfield and forwards. Until some players have a dip in form I wouldn’t change it although I like young Henderson. We have a pool to choose from for the bench that can change the game if needed.

Hope my feelings are wrong, but I don’t like this we’re still in 4 comps patter. A big month coming up, we should be taking this one game at a time…

    Inter ?

I have watched all of their games this season..I am really dissonant about them. They are capable of playing so much better than they do..They have no fight / no dig / they consistently lose 50 / 50s / they consistently give the ball away / their defence is poor / they blame each other / they have on the field arguments etc ..

Their support used to think the collective loss of form was a blip , they now think it is a permament state.

  12. A lot being said about the GBs treatment of the Sevco hordes on Sunday, calling them Monkeys.

  13. When is our games against inter ?

By sounds of it the sooner the better.

We need to hit them with a high tempo.. slow game will suit them.

  14. Hi Paul67,

    Interesting piece…

As you know when the old Rangers were floating away down the Swanee Mr King had a few little local difficulties to sort out – he could do little except play to the gallery…

Except he was accused by the S A authorities of having piled his loot off-shore.

T’was interested to note certain funds of the off-shore variety who have a Sevco shareholding are going to support Mr King.

Has he had skin in the game from the beginning?

Now, you may believe Ashley has delivered NU loanees to burn through some cash and you know it maybe true, but I think the real reason was he looked at that dire display on Sunday and knew he needed to strengthen that squad pronto.

My take is that MA is here to make New Rangers a top brand, a European brand – he has little interest in NU, the Club is up for sale the Rangers franchise is where his future lies. If this one goes kapoot he has all the cards and the wherewithal to make Rangrs Mk III.

    Auldhied @ 09:00,

Know exactly what you mean, I’ll never forget watching the Dougie! Dougie game and being incensed – when we got the win the mixture- of frustration, relief, abated anger, unrestrained, I felt as good as if we had won the Cup. Very strange.

Got to disagree with you ref the ubiquitous Kojo. Once a month he comes up with the latest reserve sensation. As far as I am concerned it only proves how little he knows about the game, a game which, by his own admission, he has “nevva” played. Those of us who played the game for 10 years,. complete with potts fractures (ask a nurse) to both ankle and wrist, and ordinary addition fractures, understand why so many players never make the grade from reserve to the big team. Ask why Celtic have so many out on loan? ask why do Chelsea have 26 players out on loan right now, including Mr Faruz (Spelling?)

The gap between reserve and first team is enormous. Players change amazingly as they get older, some of us never improve , some find greatness. You would need a crystal ball to forecast who will make the grade. Best player I ever saw as a reserve was Vic Davidson, ooozed class, better than those two amateurs beside him, Dalgliesh and Macari. Andy Ritchie comes to mind. I took BT’s advice some months ago, when posters post tripe, just scroll on by. Clever bhoy that BT

A team lacking confidence collectively is a sorry sight. Look at Dortmund this season or Manchester United last season

Kovacevic, Shakiri, Handanovic, Vidic, Medel, Guarin, Hernanes has the makings of a squad that can have an impact on the CL.

  20. What I don’t get about the argument regarding Mike Ashley planning global domination for Sevco is –

    a) why sell Lewis McLeod

    b) why wait until the last day of the transfer window to strengthen

    c) thats is you call loaning 5 reserve players as strengthening – why not go an get some real quality

    d) if you want the best for the club, you get a good manager and give him the opportunity to manage

If Mike Ashley was serious about getting Rangers back to the top of the SPFL and into the CL I cannot understand why he would allow the managerial situation to be unresolved, tie the hands of the existing, reluctant manager and fail to properly strengthen the side.

He could have went and signed Stuart Armstrong, GMS, Kenny McLean, Peter Pawlett, Scott Allan and Danny Wilson without going in excessive of 5 million. Pocket change. He didn’t.

He loaned in 5 players who have done the square root of hee haw to date. Most of whom, if we are being honest, have no future either at Newcastle or in the Premier League.

Thay all have to play. I bet they have been given a warm welcome in the dressing room…. I believe 2 are centre midfielders so how’s morale for Ian Black and Nicky Law this morning?

I don’t know what his game is but if it’s Scottish domination and the CL he is going a very funny way about it

They are a sorry sight. Some of their passing last night was wowee bad.Not often you see Serie A team that struggle to keep the ball. Not often you see a Serie A team that can’ t defend . They are a shambles .

  23. My goodness!

As if team morale wasn’t low enough already but now MA is picking the team too.

I suspect ye olde Sevco players might not pass the ball to the MA starlets.

Mind you, they probably couldn’t do it anyway.

I wonder how many of the Newcastle loanees will sustain injuries in training in the near future.

With you having watched them so closely, you’re in a better situation than most to judge.

So, how do you rate our chances over the 2 legs, I have to admit to thinking that it would be the end of the EC for us this year when the draw was made. However, your updates have given me cause for some optomism.

    HH

  26. Guernica @ 11:36,

Well there are some very good points, very well made.

However I never suggested MA was going to throw money at the problem.

If he was that sort of guy he could have done it with Newcastle.

No, my take is the branding thing.

    Like Red Bull do…

Rangers play in Sports Direct livery, they can maintain a higher profile for less cash spent, more bang for buck.

Now we all know Mike Ashley wants to get rid of Newcastle United, but he ain’t going to sell cheap. He’d rather be lumbered with a white Elephant than to loose a buck.

He is not going to throw money at Rangers, that is not his MO. He wants to make money from Rangers.

Also he holds all the cards but until he has complete control and the opposition bested, he has to have Rangers destiny on his knife edge.

    Just my take mind….

  28. So, it’s chortle…chortle…chortle at the died-monkeys coz…MA picks the team and tells his puppet manager who to put into his team.

Short memories?…aye…wizny too long ago when…once upon a time…PL was telling his puppet-manager, WGS that…he wizny to play Bobo Balde coz…the ‘boreds’ master-plan was to…sicken big Bobo by, making him sit in the stand till he was scunnered oot his nut by not playing and would…quit his £28k a week contract that was cooked-up for him by PL?!?!?…Bobo was forced to sit in the stand whilst…Celtic’s SB-holders were forced to watch…Caldwell and McManus being ‘elbowed’ up and down the pitch by the likes of…Cousan / Lafferty / Darcheville…etc…

WGS was also told not to pick Kenny Miller…just as KM started to hit the net for us…forcing the player to tell the SMSM that…”PL told me that, If I dont accept a move out of Celtic then I’d be ‘sixth’ in line for a strikers place.”…now, if WGS wizny a puppet-manager then, surely ‘that’ was his cue to tell PL where to go? No?

When Nakamura was about to leave…he was asked would he be leaving, or staying…Nakamura replied…”Peter hasn’t told me when I’ll be leaving.”…house of cards FC…or what?

  29. eddieinkirkmichael on

The most important thing that has happened during January is that we now appear to have adopted a new approach in our signing policy. No more the manager identifies positions to strenghen and J Park goes out to indentify a target. It would appear now that Ronny wants to have a say in who is brought in and wants to have seen them first. Major difference to what was going on previously. Long may it continue.
