Ashley could fulfil Tarantino vision

948

Did Dave King honestly say there would be a “forensic investigation” before newco, under his control, would repay Mike Ashley’s £10m loan?  This, before the second tranche of the loan, which the club will need to meet payroll, is paid, and while Ashley could acquire an array of property and IP assets by simply not transferring the money when expected.

Unnecessarily provoking the source of short-term finance your club is dependent on is a bizarre tactic.

If it is indeed “the end” for the current newco board, as King promises, said board have a matter of weeks to secure whatever assets they can for those who have previously invested in the club and provided loans.

The crux of King’s comments are reported as:

“Would we pay [Ashley] immediately, I don’t think so no. We would complete a forensic investigation.

“If David Somers’ indication is correct that there has been some malfeasance then it is possible that the club would have a claim then I would attach the money and make a claim.

“If any individuals behaved improperly then it is important that they are held accountable.”

There’s a scene in Pulp Fiction when an unfortunate predator, “Z”, is informed that some African Americans are about to “Get medieval on his ass”.  We don’t get to see what this means but stay tuned, between now and the EGM, Mike Ashley might just provide a demonstration of what Tarantino had in mind.

Remember, Ashley is not at Ibrox because he fancies being the next David Murray.  He is not interested in the godforsaken world of having to run a football club in Glasgow, he’s happy to allow others to carry this burden.

He may well allow King to ‘win’ the EGM, but the spoils of victory will be very much on his terms.  Trying hard not to imagine Paul Murray in a leather mask now.

Today is World Cancer Day.  This disease has taken too many from the blog already, not to mention millions across the globe.  There is a lot of good news, though.  Progress is being made, but many in the developing world need access to simple preventative treatments, methodologies and information.

The preventative message still needs to get through to a great many in the developing world, before it’s too late.  Here’s a video outlining where the battle is at the moment:

I’m not sure I agree we are playing any better since kc’s return.

I wouldn’t underplay the return of Denayer though.

    Cultsbhoy,

The Swastika may well have flown at Ibrox. There was a lot of sympathy for the Nazi cause from right wing folks round about then. I can’t say if this existed at Rangers at that time though there was links with the Royal Family and the press. It’s a bit of a dilemma that the right wing seem to revel in that they support our armed forces but seem to quite like the old right wing style salutes and are up for a bit of racism. That’s despite the dislike of the Nazis for well, the same thing.

I believe that all supporters of all clubs referred to rival clubs supporters as Huns at one time. This has been documented. Rangers referred to us as Huns. That changed as Rangers supporters pished in Chappels, graffitied town vistas and trashed town centres while they played in Europe. The term Hun stuck to them because it was so apt. hearts,Aberdeen et al refer to them as Huns.

I believe the reference to Hearts as the wee Huns or cousins of William to be a reference to their liking for similar cultures as the blue noses.

While I am making sweeping generalisations, I should say that not all Rangers supporters go around urinatingin Chappels or that sort of thing. However, you could find a very large number of Rangers supporters names amongst the Bnp members list when compared to Celtic, you might find more Rangers supporters like organised soccer violence than those of a Celtic persuasion. You may win find something similar with UKIP? Rangers supporters vs Celtic supporters who would vote for UKIP.

When Kris scored, I said to my son Zinedene Commons. ZZ used to do things like that! :)

  4. GM – Yes, Denayer has added stability in defense. Hope we sign him permanently.

I still think Kris when on his game makes us tick. He had a bit of a shocker against Ross County when he couldn’t control or pass the ball, but he is generally very solid.

Personally I think you could look a bit stupid going along to a game and singing about being up to your knees in Fenian blood, wishing for a purely Protestant land and for Catholics to go back to Ireland then be offended at being mocked as being like a primate or a Hun.

    Good question.

    Here’s what happened…

At the start of the year we had to re-write the statement for the Sunday Herald and this involved six drafts being prepared, submitted, amended and so on before we got to the stage that we were good to go.

Now ask yourself this question. If Paul had simply written the statement as a blog post and put it up on CQN would it have attracted the level of media attention the statement did?

Of course we all know the answer now but in early January we were going on the plan that we had set out and have so far executed fairly successfully.

The media exposure has been enormous and the agenda was set by CQN in the week of the first meeting with the ugly new club.

At the same time as all the re-writing was going on we were contacted by a MSM journalist.

This guy quite separately had been sickened by what was going on in the Scottish newspapers re the club continuation myth and he wanted to do something about it. He prepared a very detailed exposé on what the MSM had done to get from Rangers RIP to where they are now, pretending the events of summer 2012 didn’t happen.

He wanted to put this on a blog and thought that CQN could assist in getting the damning text out to a wider audience by by-passing the MSM.

We thought we could do something bigger and better – remember the MSM policy is to ignore the online community as much as possible. We already had a plan re the Sunday Herald to smash the myth using their own pages. Or one page at least.

More information came our way, including the emails you refer to. Plus we had some other stuff and all the quotes from 2012 from Walter etc…and the newspaper headlines!

We decided to speak to the journalist and proposed an alternative and we were going to push ahead with that a day or so after the Sunday Herald ad appeared. But we held back as a few voices on here urged caution.

We thought we’d wait until the semi final was out of the way.

The dilemma now however is whether to continue as planned or not to bother at all as the moment may have passed.

We have created a pocket sized booklet. It is written in an academic style. It looks like an academic study book from Glasgow University. It doesn’t mention Celtic at all. It is a pocket-sized factual exposé on the club continuation myth. It stands up to scrutiny. It would be as relevant to Aberdeen, Hearts, Raith Rovers fans etc as it is to us.

The content will come out but whether we press ahead with the booklet is something we have to consider carefully. Haven’t had a chance to chat to Paul about it since the weekend.

  7. DD – Glad someone else noticed :) The BBC commentary team didn’t pick up on it. Superb piece of skill.

    Napoli 1 Inter 0..

Inter are absolutely nothing to worry about.

A very poor game.Ranocchia made mistake after mistake and gifted Napoli a last minute winner.Shaqiri did nothing, wonder boy Puscas did nothing..I lost count of the number of times Inter gave the ball away ..Very poor defensively , really struggle with cross balls.

Poor game – I found myself wishing I was at home .

Looked to me to be a team with not a shred of confidence.Lost count of the number of50/50 balls they failed to win.Easily brushed aside, hesitant in defence.

I hope they keep this form for us.

Having chuckled shamelessly at the monkey jokes, I have to say that I am uncomfortable with the use of that term for Sevcoites. I well remember many of them calling the Argentinian soldiers the very same word during the Falklands War. I hated the term. There was also a huge stushie during the 1980s in the USA when the top American Football commentator (his name escapes me) referred to one of the Miami Dolphins wide receivers as a ‘monkey’ . I believe he was as he suggested that he wassking a reference to his athleticism when he used the term but it was the last word that should have been used to describe a black American whether intended as a compliment or in a derogatory way. I hope we will drop usage of it. Continuing to do so will backfire on us and will be used against us.

    ——————————-

But we’re not directing this at a black athlete – we’re directing it at sevco fans. There is no racial element of any kind attached this (very tame) jibe. Can you explain your attaching a racial tone to this?

    ……………………….

You’re being a bit disingenuous here, aren’t you? My post was perfectly self explanatory. You know Argentinian soldiers having been called monkeys by some British and Scottish Neanderthals. Black American footballer being called a monkey resulting in widespread outrage. Spot the connection? We have seen the ability of the smsm to totally misrepresent all things Sevco and all things Celtic. I don’t think it’s too wide a stretch of the imagination to suggest that they might start to misrepresent Celtic supporters as racists no matter how far from the truth that might be. Many others have expressed concern at use of the term – probably because they know of its’ dubious connotations in some places.

    ———————————–

Disingenuous? I don’t even know how to spell the word! There is absolutely no racist implication in inflatable monkeys being used to poke fun because it is absolutely clear that it’s not being directed at a racial group. It is being directed at sevco fans for being the monkey idiots that let their club die. Spot the difference with your example of a black athlete being called a monkey?

If people don’t understand racism then they need educating.

BTW – is it OK to take inflatable sheep to an Aberdeen game? Or are the Dons fans gonna start taking offence in a fit of faux outrage like the RST? Clearly not – because they’re not a bunch of monkeys.

    ………………………………………………….

    Now you’re deliberately obfuscating :-))

I never made any reference to the GB or their inflatable monkeys on Sunday. I would give the Green Brigade carte blanche to upset the Huns in anyway they see fit. I had gone to the trouble of saying that I had been chuckling all afternoon at the monkey jokes on here. All I was suggesting that it could backfire on us due to the smsm misrepresenting Celtic supporters as being racist for calling the Zombies “monkeys”. I supported my views by citing two examples of how the term had been used/ misconstrued as being racist. One Hun was quoted as saying that thet had to get their ‘coloured’ (sic) supporters to complain about our use of this racist term by Celtic supporters. I was not moralising. I just said that I was uneasy about it. Then I saw a post from Mike in Toronto which mentioned bears. I then remembered that they called themselves bears but objected to us calling them monkeys because it dehumanises them. They can’t dehumanise themselves and then complain if we do it by calling them the name of another animal.

A very interesting point. When I was a wee boy in the 50s and 60s official figures suggested that there were 850000 Catholics in Scotland. I thought that number had diminished greatly due to a lot of people falling away from the Church and many now professing that they no longer believe in God. I was very surprised, therefore, to attend Mass at the weekend and be informed by the Bishop of Dunkeld that the last census revealed that there were now 841000 Catholics in Scotland. He went to great pains to explain that some of these attended Church regularly, some infrequently, some on special occasions and some hardly ever, if at all but they identified themselves as and think of themselves as Catholics. There is hardly any change in the number between the 1950s and 2011.

I have no figures for any of the Protestant denominations between then and now. It may explain, however, the sensitivity that some Catholics have when they hear negative references to their religion. I’m sure that many Protestants would feel the same way if large sections of the Celtic support were to belt out songs/chants declaiming the Protestant faith.

  17. I have a few close Hun mates and they would laugh off Monkey moniker, they are used to ‘huns’ but what really irks them is referring to Sevco….

Any chance the PL haters who insisted we pay United’s asking price will read this and accept that they don’t know as much as they think???

The Tannadice club sold both Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to the Hoops late on Monday night in a deal thought to be worth £2million.

Both players have been at the heart of United’s success under boss Jackie McNamara, with the pair playing in the Arabs’ 2-1 League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday.

Mackay-Steven had valready signed a pre-contract at Parkhead earlier in the window, and many United fans had expected him to hang around in tangerine for longer.

But some have reacted angrily to the news that he has now departed earlier along with fellow-midfielder Armstrong.

It has led to the Tayside outfit releasing a statement to calm frustrations at the sale, insisting they acted in club’s best interests, and that they had the backing of manager Jackie McNamara.

It read: “The board of directors of Dundee United Football Club believes that supporters of the club should have a complete understanding of the club’s current position.

“Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong left for Celtic FC and, while we understand the initial negative response in some quarters to their departure from Dundee United, it is very important to keep this in context.

“Firstly and most importantly, it is the board’s duty to balance the short, medium and long-term interests of the club at all times. While being an emotional wrench for the club and the players, the transfer of Gary and Stuart was reluctantly, albeit undoubtedly, the right thing to do in the circumstances.

“Those circumstances, for absolute clarity, are that both Gary and Stuart made it clear to management that they wanted to leave Dundee United to further their careers elsewhere. Gary had signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic.

“The board had no desire to sell the players, however when it was obvious that they both viewed their futures elsewhere, it is the board’s responsibility to do the right thing for the club.

“That then meant ensuring that the club realised optimum financial value for the players – one of whom had only 17 weeks left on his contract.

“It should also be appreciated that, in reality, players decide where they will play and not their current clubs. Dundee United has no control over their destination club.

“On this occasion, the lure of European football and increased personal financial reward and security are major draws to young players. Both players ultimately go with our best wishes.”

It added: “Such deals are negotiated at all times in the longer-term interests of the club. This is also a very important point as the club remains focused off-field on being debt-free.

“The transfer fees received will have the incidental effect of assisting the club to become completely debt-free ahead of schedule.

“On-field, we are still challenging on three fronts and have no intention of being diverted from our short-term aims for this season.

“We can say that safe in the knowledge that the manager himself is happy with the result of this transfer window and fully supported the board’s actions.”

The statement continued: “We have some of the best players in the country and we have the best management team for attracting the best young talent.

“We trust in the manager, his coaching staff and the players as an entire squad.”

  19. Is the “Monkey”thing not just an extension of the “Knuckledragger”description of them.

    Thats what I thought.

    I luv it.

  20. Now let’s have a go at predicting the future….

DK gets his wish at the EGM and declares himself ‘King’ of the castle (greyskull).

MA calls the SFA, “Either you ban King & Murray from the Sevco board or I will permanently shut down Sevco by 5pm today”.

“Yes sir. Anything you say, sir.”

    King and Murray are banned.

Bear in mind, MA not only has Sevco by the short and curlies, he also has the SFA in the same grasp due to their paranoid belief that Scotland needs Sevco.

MA is running the show not DK.

That is an interesting stat … However there is no doubt ( in my mind) that Scotland as a society is much more secular than when I was a young lad ( I’m 47)…

I think it is generally accepted that. Church attendance is in decline among the traditional religions.

When I was a young boy folk defined themselves by their religion more than they do nowadays. Hence my point that ascribing yourself to acts or views of religious bigotry strikes me as being old fashioned..

So there may be broadly as many Catholics as there were 40 years ago but I’d wager there are less ‘good catholics’ as my grannie would describe regular chapel attenders..
