Astana, Hedge Funds, Longmuir to Newco

1274

After full time on Saturday Celtic fly east to play Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan, which is five hours ahead of UK time, but fortunately kick off on Tuesday is 9pm local time, 4pm in the UK, so the team will not have to adjust body clocks.  Such a long flight immediately after a game is not without risk, though.

Muscles need to stretch and move freely after exertion.  Players will need an exercise routine for the plane to mitigate the risk of the kind of strain injuries we see so often.  Get a schedule for them to walk up and down the plane every hour.

I expect Celtic will have a scout at the Astana Arena for Friday’s game between Astana and Shakhter Karagandy but it might not be too revealing.  The Shakhter coach and first team squad didn’t even attend the game prior to their last Champions League qualifier against Albanians, Korce.  They were locked away in preparation as the second team were deployed for the league game.

It’s back to the Astana Arena, with its plastic pitch and closable roof, which is 135 miles from Karagandy, for the visit of Celtic, who will be hoping the pitch is a better standard than the one they played on in Sweden last week.  Neil Lennon could perhaps put a call into his former team-mate, Aiden McGeady, who played on the surface for Ireland 11 months ago (Ireland won the World Cup qualifier after being a goal down with a minute of normal time left).

Longmuir to Rangers International

It was a clear five months ago we ran the story, Longmuir and the Newco job, saying “Speculation that Mr Longmuir is taking care of current business until he is ready to move to Newco is becoming hard to ignore”.  Back then CQN suggested that if Longmuir “loses his ability to be a dealmaker” there might not be much he could offer such a high-flying football team.

If the SPFL are surprised, they shouldn’t be. Anything other information Mr Doncaster wants I’ll be happy to help.

The March article linked above also speculates that Newco could go into administration this season, lose players and suffer a points penalty, resulting in relegation. Don’t know how I missed the target so badly with that one……

Charlotte Fakes revelations from last night will have been news to no one here, but they will embarrass more than a few elsewhere.  What the Scottish football authorities must now consider are actions, and guidance and advice to Scottish Football League clubs during the last year.

“Have we actually offered him a job”?  There’s one chief exec who is delivering £500k of comedy value per annum. Here’s a phrase which might come in helpful soon, “It’s too late, we’ve no money, you can’t deliver what we wanted and you’re useless”.

Has anyone suggested that being owned by a Hedge Fund is like a new signing?  Positions are being adopted for the bun fight ahead.  It will not be pretty.

Have you signed up for the 1254125 Great Scottish Run yet?  For serious runners there is a 10k or Half Marathon to choose from, but there are shorter distances, from 1 mile, for the less-athletic and for kids.  With the soul of our game being chased by so many unappealing influences this is a great way to anchor Celtic back where the story started.

Get involved, guidance tips here.

Anyone else who presents a Daily Record transfer story to me as fact is getting a right dirty look.

PR agency Media House has confirmed its contract with Rangers Football Club has ended. The agency has provided services at Ibrox since 2006, most recently during a share issue. A spokesman for Media House said: “Our six-month contract to assist Rangers with their IPO has ended.” Writing on his blog, journalist Phil Mac Giolla Bháin reported that replacing Media House will be Keith Bishop Associates, reportedly on a five-year contract worth £130,000 per annum. The news comes amid reports of financial problems at the club after finance director Brian Stockbridge admitted only £10m remains in the bank after the IPO reportedly raised £22m and £13m was taken in season ticket sales. Before Rangers went into liquidation in the summer of last year, it was revealed the club owed more than £100,000 to media, marketing and communications companies, including Media House. Following liquidation, a consortium led by Charles Green bought the assets and formed another club, which has become a point of controversy in Scottish football. During that period, former Daily Record sportswriter James Traynor left his position at the paper to become the club’s director of communications. Rangers fans have backed the club, however, with healthy season ticket sales over the last two seasons. Meanwhile, an anonymous Twitter account, Charlotte Fakes, has been releasing streams of private emails from Media House founder Jack Irvine to those involved in crisis-hit Rangers for several months. Police are investigating the leaks. The Drum is awaiting a response from both Rangers and Keith Bishop Associates. Last week, it emerged that an independent reviewer for the Advertising Standards Authority had chosen to reopen its investigation that originally ruled in favour of upholding a campaign by the club claiming it to be ‘Scotland’s most successful club’

Is that what Celtic are doing?

  4. What would you rather do as a captain?

1 – Lead out your country in a meaningless friendly against England at Wembley (when you know that the majority of the Scottish ‘fans’ hate you because you play for Celtic)?

2 – Lead out your country in a World Cup final (when you know that the majority of Scottish ‘fans’ hate you because you play for Celtic)?

3 – Lead out Celtic in a Champions League final in front of c30,000 Celtic fans who you know love you?

FC Shakhter Karagandy have just one hurdle left to overcome in their quest to become the first Kazakh club in the UEFA Champions League – but it is a formidable one in the shape of Celtic FC, former European Cup winners and a regular presence among the continental elite.

I’m sure you understood why Aiden Mc Geady chose to play for the Republic. Is it too much to understand a Scottish born player with connections to nowhere else but Scotland being proud as punch to captain his country against his biggest rival.? I only hope his burning desire to do well doesn’t lead to an injury.

When we won,the Scotland supporters came on and took away the pitch and the goalposts.

It was bedlam, and when I tried to get up the tunnel,a London bobby would not let me.

    I said:”I’m the Scottish Manager !”

He said:”Yeah, right…and I’m Her Majesty The Queen.”

Don Revie saw this, and he told the bobby:”He really is the Scotland Manager.”

So the policeman let me up the tunnel.

I was involved in seven games against England, and any time we played them I would say:

“I don’t care if we lose every other game, you’ve got to beat them.”

That was the perception, and the fans were desperate to beat them..

It is still the same now.To beat England is a real feather in your cap.

To be honest, that obsession possibly held us back..

We lost at Hampden partly due to the SPL fixture schedule, because the was a “Glasgow Derby” the week before we played England..

Paul Lambert was our best player at the time, but he got his face smashed by Jorge Albertz…

    I’m sure it was ‘accidental’….

but it was an ‘Old Firm’ game, you know.

Barry Ferguson played in Paul’s place but he is not naturally defensively minded.

Paul Scholes scored two, where Lambert should have been the anchor man in midfield..

There was no way he would have scored twice,if Lambert had been playing….

All this bumping of gums over the hun comedy is go absolutely no consequence to me.

The spine of our team has been sold and we will face Karagandy, who by all accounts are no mugs, with a weakened squad. Even if we do sign a striker now, they will have had zero time to acclimatize to tactics and formations. The butterflies have already set in over Tuesday.

If our strategy going forward is to be reliant on Champions League participation, our preparation for this has been poor to say the least. Lenny has not been given the backing he deserves and coupled with the PR disaster over the Green Brigade, IMO this has been a very disjointed start to the season.

  20. Personally can’t be bothered with Scotland’s national team but to criticise a lad for being proud of leading out his country against the auld enemy is ridiculous.
