Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

    Auldheid,

as usual you put together a good argument on everybody but the board are trying to create division to suit your agenda, whatever that might be.

So maybe you can clear this up for me,

    CST statement says

“The Green Brigade have now issued a statement which contains a number of points which we believe are of particular relevance. Firstly, they have indicated that a meeting took place between Celtic and some unnamed supporters’ organisations before Christmas at which the targeting of particular Celtic supporters was discussed. For the avoidance of any doubt among the wider support (the GB are in no doubt about our position) the Celtic Trust did not attend any such meeting; we were not invited to any such meeting; we were not aware that such a meeting had taken place until afterwards and we would not ever, under any circumstances, have participated in such a meeting.”

    The club statement says,

“In addition, in December last year, it was agreed with our supporters’ groups that any such complaints could also be made through the Fans Against Criminalisation Group (The Celtic Supporters´ Association, The Green Brigade, The Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters´ Clubs, the Association of Irish Celtic Supporters´ Clubs and The Celtic Trust). Click HERE for more details.”

Why were the CST abd GB not invited to this meeting, were the CSA invited, do you know

Who exactly are “our supporters groups”, could that specifically be supporters who support the board.

This meeting was divisive in that it excluded certain supporters groups, no

Where you at this meeting, was P67 at this meeting

Why do you ignore these statements in your argument to blame everybody but the board for divisive agenda

Sorry, just whose house is Celtic park ? Celtic supporters like the GB will be there long after guys on the board have departed.

Everything is possible but your ideas seem a bit far fetched to me and as long as we as a support continue to preach an us and them gospel we will continue to undermine ourselves at the most basic level before we even start to look outside at our foes..

  4. It’s simple is it not…..whoever owns the club at any particular time can decide policy….I am not saying it is right, just that it is not rocket science

  5. This is from Strathcylde police responding to an FOI request and info up to date as of 8 October 2012. From this we see that 81 Celtic fans were arrested in 2011/12 and a further 6 in 2012/13.

  6. I do not know the structure of the stewarding at Celtic Park.

I would imagine that a one match suspension via electronic turnstile would be to prevent someone re-entering after being ejected… And that would be in the power of Police/Stewards.

I know that Anfield stewarding is organized via the supporters groups.

  8. Monteblanco – you hit the nail on the head – Celtic are indeed part of the focus group which is carrying out these attacks on Celtic supporters.

I am torn – I WANT to believe the club’s statement but the the story doesnt add up. If Celtic fans are being given football banning orders without actually being told or being accussed of anything then that says it all. If these banning orders are coming from Celtic directly then that is even worse.

So PL and the Board – give us all a straight answer – are you banning celtic fans without speaking to them, accusing them or seeking evidence of why they are to be banned.

If you dont answer we can suspect that the answer is yes and bang you have just lost 20K season ticket holders.

    We await your answer…..

  9. Monteblanco

Good question. Were those not allowed access disallowed for breaking ticket conditions at previous games in which case they should have been forewarned or was it a marker against future behaviour.

Just exactly what is trying to be achieved on either side here?

Is any side being unreasonable in trying to achieve their aim and is that aim legitimate?

More questions than answers and perhaps a wee stushy will bang heads together.

Stubborness might be a factor here, and without an insight into what the overall aim is of the conflicting parties it is hard to tell who is being stubborn and if they have good reason to be.

More likely the police are making a request under the Data Protection Act 1998, stating that they believe A.N. Other has been involved in, or may be about to be involved in a criminal act. Now that suspicion could be, and knowing Strathclyde Police is likely to be fictitious, but the club has no option but to respond with the details.

To release them under any other circumstances would be illegal. Unless prior consent to do so has already been agreed under the Ts and Cs of the season ticket. (which I can’t be bothered checking).

  14. Anyone have a link to the “don’t know what his title was” but he was busy at his desk, police commander or whatever they call themselves doing his two finger typing when his computer wasn’t on, now that was funny, at Celtic Park, I demand an IQ test! FFFS

    FocusFFS.

  15. Looking at the story re The HBOS loan to fund Dunfermline, I was just wondering who authorised the funding of RFCil?

Was it the same disgraced HBOS director?

  16. weeminger

If as you say the club have no choice, and have to release details to the polis, why don’t they say so !!!!

They are doing no wrong, they are acting in accordance with the law, why all the cloak and dagger stuff ?

The only losers will be the club, unless the supporters get answers, there may well be many who don’t renew their season books, and pick and choose the games they attend.

Something is just no right with all this.

  17. eddieinkirkmichael on

If there is anyone out there who thinks for 1 miniut that Peter Lawell doesn’t know what is happening in Celtic Park on a matchday then sorry you are a fool.

Peter Lawell knew full well what was happening prior to kickoff, does anyone seriously think he wasn’t informed by head of security? Even if he had no idea about the events unfolding prior to kick off(which I don’t believe for one miniut) he would have heard within miniuts from the head of security.

This wasn’t just about saturday events this issue has been simmering for a long time, the fans involved have been very patient waiting on Lawell and others within Celtic to get round the table.

We now have a statement from the GB saying another group informed them that Lawell wanted to see the end of the GB, this group issued a statement today and didn’t deny that Lawell said this to them, what does that tell you about the statement from Celtic FC?

Look at the opening words in the CFC statement “OVER the course of the weekend,………….”, utter baloney. For CFC to even try and say they new nothing about these events as they were happening sadly appears to be nothing but a bare faced lie.

  18. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire – 21:23 on 18 February, 2013

By the same token, why would the club be directing fans to complain via a system the GB are involved with, thus giving them more evidence to present a case of fan harassment?

Also why aren’t members of the GB using a process for complaint that they, as a group are part of?

I’m trying to take every statement at face value right now and it seems to me there’s a bit of obfuscation happening from both sides. For example what was the purpose of stating that the Celtic Head of Security was called as a prosecution witness, but giving no detail of what was said in evidence? As Battered Bunnet pointed out, once called he has no option but to appear but they inference is that he (and Celtic) are in collusion. That kind of thing isn’t helpful.

Nor is the club calling supporters groups to meetings and not having the main players involved, or at least stating why and who was there. Have any members of these groups appeared yet to state their case and/or confirm the comments attributed to PL?

    Too many questions.

  20. Sipsini I cannot do the link stuff.

I watched it from another website. I down a quick search on YouTube and searched Tom Devine Holyrood offensive bill and their is a 7 minute shorter version which I assume contains Christine Grahams evening up statements. The version I watched was posted by Jinkybhoy lasts about 12 mins and she makes it crystal clear the existing legislation could only be used against rangers supporters and not Celtic supporters as they did not sing sectarian songs. It was not fair so SNP needed Offensive Bill act to target Celtic fans singing “political” songs. She clearly mentions the evening up process.

  21. Kojo

Political protesters would , well ,protest about matters political. The GB are infamous in the eyes of some for their Poppy Protest. The reality of that was that they were protesting about the SFA/SPL using football to make a political statement.Effectively, the GB were saying : Keep Politics out of Football!

I go to all the Home games. The GB are a group of passionate, enthusiastic football fans who make a very occasional political comment IN RESPONSE to a perceived injustice on the part of the Authorities. Your view is that politics should be left at the gate, theirs is that it should be brought in. Two different opinions but a sense of perspective has to be kept. The GB are NEARLY ALWAYS singing about Celtic and not about a political issue.

    JJ

  22. Kojo.

You might have a point that some in the gb are affiliated to left wing politics…

    What is wrong with that?

Most fanbases have an element one way or the other!!

Todays economic climate and the bullying of the needy tend to bring it to the fore…
