Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

I know it seems like it would be an easy statement to make.

We know all about the fear and intimidation that Strathclyde Police are exerting on fans. I’ve suggested previously that club may be in fear for their stadium licence/safety certificate – how much of an excuse do you think the Police would need to withdraw their support? Maybe it’s not just the fans that are getting it.

As far as I can see the Police are knee deep in this (reference intended).

Far too reasonable as per ;)

The Green Brigade have added to Celtic Park, they also have the capacity to be a thorn in the PLCs side at any given moment. The potential to raise issues that might be uncomfortable for the PLC will never be relinquished by the GB and neither it should in my opinion. If it is not illegal then it is fair enough. (Of course people will disagree with that point but that’s an endless debate) The issue is that it is this stubbornness that the PLC have to decide if they can handle or not. If they don’t, and all evidence suggests that they don’t, then we arrive at the point we are at. Add to this the police with their own agenda and it becomes even more messy.

The PLC can hang the GB out to dry by letting the police criminalise them. But the gamble they are taking is that the support will be replenished by ‘board lackeys’ (apologies for the language but the point is clear i hope) So that’s what is playing out now, who knows where it will lead but as I said yesterday, both sides will suffer and that is Christina Graham and Chief Corrigan’s gain.

    weeminger,

in the bit about the Celtic Head of Security being called as a prosecution witness, I thought their gripe was that they were told the club would support their case, there was nothing to stop the club also sending along a defence witness after all that is what we are told they said they would do, no.

yes far too many questions still unanswered, you’d think with all the resources the club has in PR they’d do a better job of clearing up all the confusion, unless that is part of some strategy, innit.

“OVER the course of the weekend, the Club has been made aware of further reports and allegations concerning the ill-treatment of supporters by police at Celtic Park.”

Every match day the GB are subjected to harassment and Orwellian surveillance WITHIN the stadium and yet the above statement seems to proclaim innocence regarding this.

Club and GB statements in conflict. Which of the two is the more credible?

  10. Regarding Celtic security chief giving evidence…

four people were charged for holding a banner depicting Neil Lennon in front of a burning Ibrox with the words ‘Lets go to War’

When the charges were brought, Celtic’s security man informed the accused that he saw nothing offensive in the banner and would assist in the case.

However, on the day he arrived as a witness for the prosecution and said the banner ‘reminded him of the Bradford disaster’ and agreed it was offensive.

Unluckily for him the judge disagreed.

If season books were selling out, or even likely to, I’d support that as a possible motive, even if I didn’t believe.

However replacement ‘board lackeys’ aren’t there, and I think we all agree that PL loves to get as much income as possible and I don’t see him voluntarily losing the GB season ticket income plus more in terms of residual income and people giving up in support. It goes almost directly against everything he would normally do.

I might be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time.

  13. weeminger

Now we are getting down to the crux of the matter.

Any objection from the police would, and could easily be fought through the courts, and imo, it would be throw out, but I can see where the suits would not be too happy to go down this route.

I remember a couple of years ago, I said things would end up in the hands of the politicians, I honestly never envisaged it would end up where we are today, but I never thought the huns would be blended, tis all their fault, had they not made such a bollix of things, the powers that be wouldn’t have such a downer on Timmy !!!!!!

  14. Celtic in a key European match suffer at the hands off some terrible refereeing. Celtic rather than take it lying down, complain about the refereeing and the injustice and although we were well beaten in the end, there still an annoying thought at the back of your head that it could have been different. Then strangely in the next match in the SPL the officials are at it again, a dodgy decision, but wait… this time the decision is exactly the infringement Celtic were complaining about in the European match, how can Celtic now complain? That’s football, sometimes for you, sometimes against, no? However, a cynic might say, maybe it was the perfect moment to give an honest mistake against Celtic, a time when Celtic would look petty and hypocritical to complain when a referee looks weak and then complain when a referee pulls a player up for such an infringement – just happened to be Celtic losing in out in both cases, heads they win tails you lose….. Now of course I have only described a scenario which would be construed as a hypothesis, as empirical evidence is needed to establish a theory… However, after the weekends match something was bothering me, there was a sense of déjà vu, this phenomenon had occurred before….. Aug 27, 2009 – Boiling point: Celtic’s Scott Brown confronts Eduardo after the Arsenal striker won a contentious penalty at the Emirates

Aug 30, 2009 – Tony Mowbray insisted referee Dougie McDonald was wrong to send off Aiden McGeady for an alleged dive in Celtic’s 1-0 win over Hibernian…..

    All just a big coincidence I’m sure….

As you know I’m not as you cal lit Kojo hater.

I made my point clear yesterday. Green Brigade statement was stupid and irresponsible. Their argument was that they were the angel and Peter Lawwel was the liar. I see they have a lawyer. Why the lawyer has not made it clear, has not shown the papers proving that they tried to agree on the meetings but got “No” answer from PL?

I’m against politics at the stadiums. I do not remember giving it time at Legia stadium and would not like it.

On the other hand, I believe that some folks were arrested and disturbed without good reasons. They have rights to be worried and alarmed. They pay hard earned money for tickets and have right to feel safe at the stadium. Celtic Park is not La Scala. It’s place where people should have been given more freedom for their behavour.

You know that I do not like the communists but if the communism is not forbidden in Scotland , people have right to sing songs praising it. I could say they are wrong but would not say it’s against the law and they should be arrested for singing these songs. Quite contrary in Poland, where the communism and it’s ideas is a crime. If people want to sing Irish songs but do not call for crimes they should be free to sings these songs. You know my view on Che Guevarra who I think was the murderer, but as far as I know his portraits are not forbidden. I hate Che portraits at Celtic but they are not the crime. The police is not to penalize for views their bosses do not like. The police is to protect people. There is a difference between you dislike but it’s not a crime and offensive behavour.

Speaking as Legia supporter, still might be wrong on Celtic and Green Brigade matters.

Had very tiresome day and would be better if I disappear.

As somebody said last night, follow the money. PL would hate to lose the income. It’s the only thing in this whole case I’m sure of. So if he is involved in this, I honestly believe there’s pressure being applied.

    That might be Police lead.

Alternatively it might be DD. What if he’s been told that we’ll never get access to the EPL pound while we have such a vocal group singing the occasional Irish ballad. I’ve just made that up, but would it surprise you? No. me neither.

  22. Extended use of Information Sharing Protocols

    18. Improving mechanisms by which information is shared between police and clubs around incidents and individuals causing concern was also highlighted as a priority by JAG members. To deliver this, a standard national Information Sharing Protocol (ISP) between police authorities and football clubs will be extended to all SFA-member clubs and will be in place by January 2012. The FBOA also has a similar template which should be available within these timescales. This will improve the quality of the information shared between clubs and police and the consistency with which this information is shared. This in turn will allow faster identification of supporters who bring their clubs into disrepute in order that appropriate action can be taken.
