Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

  1. No Brown, Lustig, or Samaras tomorrow, so I’ll try:

Despite Stokes’ performance on Sat (his best imo), Watt still shades it for me as partner to Hooper in this formation. Doubtless, Stokes will play, and if he does as well as on Sat, I’ll change my mind!

  2. Peter Scarff if the club could reach out to me in Bermuda, then the unseen fenian hand of PL that they rant about on FF truely is powerful. No plant just my honest thoughts, and as an ex strathclyde polis I know there will be issues there especially with House as the boss but contrary to the belief of some not all of the polis have it in for us and a lot are TIMS. But there does sound to me that someone from either the political arena or the management of the polis is trying to either prove a point about something or make a name for themselves. But surely the club and GB singing from the same hymn sheet can only be a good thing if there is persecution taking place

So according to papers a “Uefa spokesman” says they’re annoyed at Celtic for sending a DVD of game. NL confirmed today he never sent it yet!

Hmmmm, is this true? Surely there’s no one at UEFA (let’s say an ex head of referees) who might have leaked a story to his mates in the press back home?

  4. Don’t really know the ins and outs of what’s going on with the Green Brigade but I would suggest every individual launches a complaint and demands a separate investigation. The police will have to investigate and the over-load with soon make them change their stance and give up. They don’t have the resources to win a thousand battles.

Celtic seem to be getting written off all together forvthe CL return match ….. Tell you what, there would a day of mourning in this Country if we get through…….and I would need to tranquilised ……..LLOOLL ……It’s just fantastic being a Celtic Supporter…!!!!!!!!

Stokes should, and will, start. Watt didn’t even make the bench at weekend (unless he was injured??) so can’t see him coming straight back in. In fact Lassad and Miku probably would get a start before him (wrongly IMO).

Watt will be one of the beneficiaries if we win the league early and give key players a long break before the season end.

Forster has missed enough games so will now play every game until the end of season, injuries permitting.

The CSA also need to organise ‘independent’ OBSERVERS outside the turnstiles before home games to note any ‘situation’ for investigation …!!??

I think you’re wrong re the polis

They pushed for the act ….they got it and some nice funding to implement it …there is a significant number of them on a cushy number right now …pretending to be working all the while just hassling folk at football matches

No Saturday night nightshift working out of Stewart or Helen St PO

Also the CC of Strathclyde ..House..was heavily involved in the set up of the Act…if it fails he’ll be embarrassed ….career egotists don’t do embarrassment

The polis are right up this…make no mistake

    ——————–

Only because we allow it. This from the club statement is key

” What would be the Club’s motivation for being involved in activity which targets or victimises supporters? It is simply not true. It does not make sense”

If all the Board wanted to do, according to some, is maximise profits, why would they indulge in behaviour that endangers those profits?

It simply does not make sense and for that reason I would address my questions to the police and not Celtic.

Exactly what are they trying to do and why?

Celtic are as much victims of police policy as the GB and the sooner this is realised by the support as one the better.

That the default position of some is suspicion of the Board is being used to cause division.

Each case has to be treated on its merits under the law until the stupid law is repealed. Celtic are as much prisoners of that reality as the GB lads caught up by police policy Not Celtic policy.

No agenda here cara-but did I not see SNP ads at some football grounds?

  11. Gonnae someone explain to me the definition of the word boycott because as far as I am aware all that I have seen happening this season is that some fans who have already paid for their season ticket have on a couple of occasions failed to make use of their purchases

Noo if I was their mammy and daddy and I paid out good money for them to go to the football and I found out they hadn’t been going to the games I wouldn’t be forking out the money next season and I would be putting it towards their St Aloysius fees

  12. ….PFayr

Absolutely! The police have been given authority by an insane law to act as they see reasonable.

No definition of what is reasonable just according to their judgement.

Serious questions need to be asked in political circles to find out exactly how much this “policing” is costing and what it is achieving. That is where John Reid came in handy but I’d expect the issue to move up to the political sphere pretty soon if Celtic have any sense.

A pal of mine son and his mate were arrested in Renfrew on Friday night the boy’s car impounded DNA tested locked up until Monday morning released at 2am. The crime ? playing offensive songs on the car stereo at 9pm in Renfrew Town Centre . They now await the PF report to see if this will go any further. Two 20 yo boys criminalised for playing rebel songs in a car? More awaits in Salmonds Scotland.

    ———————————————————————————————

Can you please explain how this is Salmonds Scotland. out of curiosity how loud was the music being played i.e was it for your pals son and his mates enjoyment or was it blasting out the car so that everyone could hear. What would you think if you passed a car playing orange music, would it bother you? Have the boys been charged and convicted already?

Yep, not to mention Labour ones, Libe dem ones etc. Funnily enough, I’ve NEVER seen a scottish football ground with a Tory one lol. No effin’ wonder.

But I take your point, why is that ok if “politics should have no place in football?”

A good civil rights lawyer would be all over this and there must be one or two independent journalists with a film crew who could be contacted, then let’s see how the police react to being filmed by someone with a press pass..

I think UKIP had an advert at the recent raith rovers game.

  19. This may have been covered last week, forgive me if it was.

I was thinking about George Galloway’s comments on the disgrace that was RFC (Deceased) being edited out of last week’s BBC Question Time. George claimed this was the only time he had ever known any of his comments to have been edited from this programme.

Odd, I thought, then I remembered the BBC production office was moved a couple of years ago from London to………..Glasgow.

  20. Feck it. Take it to the streets. Gie the ratbags laldy.

All this talk and hot air is achieving zero.

  21. Celtic boss Lennon’s blast over Uefa claims

Celtic manager Neil Lennon was unimpressed with reports which claimed Uefa were “irritated” by his threat to send a DVD of complaint about Spanish referee Alberto Mallenco.

Lennon was raging at the official for not punishing severely enough the Juventus players who manhandled his men during the first leg of the Champions League last-16 clash at Parkhead last Tuesday, which the Italians won 3-0.

“I think it is a load of rubbish myself, there is no direct quotes from Uefa so I would disregard that story,” said Lennon.

“We may not (send a DVD). We have compiled something but we might just do it through a phone call.

“All I want is clarification. If that is allowed in the game then fine, we will start doing it, or were Uefa happy with the referee’s performance and some aspects of the game? That’s all.”

Why change a team that’s just won 6-2?

Because they’ll have played 3 days ago.

Besides, this is Lenny we’re talking about. He made 4 changes to the team that beat Aberdeen 9-0.

Ever see that documentary about the Trump Golf Course? “You’ve been Trumped” I think it’s called. There’s a scene where the independent film makers are interviewing one of the people who’s life has been made a misery by the machinations of the Trump organization, minding their own business before a police car turns up, presumably after a call from trump security to “harassment”.

You should see how well they took being filmed in that.

Playing twice in 3 days shouldn’t be a problem for a professional footballer. Especially after such a comprehensive victory.

But you are right of course re. Lenny, he likes a tinker. Maybe he’ll bring back his blue eyed boy, Forrest, and give Kayal a start.

  25. Kayal33,

If our manager changes the team after a significant victory, he will be honourable company. Mr Stein was a great believer in “horses for courses”, resting players and giving game time to others. Look at the teams our manager has fielded in the last 2 league games; yet, both have won well and entertainingly. Long may it continue.
