Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

  1. from GB statement

“Others were greeted by a message at the turnstile after swiping their card that read “suspended for one game.”

    and

“Furthermore, he (PL) went onto say he’d be happy for the club to defend us in court. We were clearly delighted with this. However, when our lawyer contacted him about this a few weeks down the line, Lawwell denied all knowledge of the meeting and refused to comment any further. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a senior member of Celtic security, David Brannan, was used as a prosecution witness.”

    from Celtic statement

“Accusations suggesting that the Club is in some way involved in targeting supporters are ludicrous. These accusations have absolutely no foundation whatsoever and, of course, are very disappointing”

    compare and contrast!!!

I am convinced there is more to this than meets the eye – there is a deep underlying problem that is yet to surface.

However – it should be noted that any individual cited by the PF (not the Ayr version) to attend court has to do so. They cite the individual (not the Company) who witnessed an alleged incident.

Leggo articulates the Loyalist problem with Neil.

    >>>>>>>>

And you have articulated the problem with the likes of Leggo very well

    HH!

  4. One thing troubles me though.

PL was basically called a liar by the GB…I expected a strong denial today???

  5. Though the statement doesn’t explain why some fans had their season cards banned for 1 game without any prior notice? Surely only the club themselves have the power to do that?

Never been to Derry but thinking of going for paddys day any info on where to stay , hang out etc,any info appreciated thanks in advance…….HH

I will keep on saying it : ‘agents provocateurs’.

We will not be divided by the spiteful sleekit mendacious mindset of the Scottish hun ethos.

  8. Why cant Hawthorn take a walk round to Section111 unexpectedly and see in vivo the issues at first hand

  9. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

club statement.lots of words and no specific answers.why doesn’t PL.get an anorak on and walk up to the park with the GB and see for himself what happens.get a few hidden cameras to record everything and then show it to the police.hell he could even take all the old guys he plants to ask friendly questions at the AGM to walk with him.on the other hand why has this not been done already.???????

  10. I am suspicious of those who proclaim the board’s innocence based on the board’s own proclamation of their innocence.

    1. It is not ‘his’. It is the version produced by the club that can be bought in any shop.

    2. If it is a Fleg it must be the Indian Fleg since the tricolour is made up of 3 lateral rather than vertical bands.

Three sides to the story, the GB’s version, the club’s version, and the truth.

I still reckon the Poppy banner done for them, been tension ever since.

Re yer man Brannan, couldn’t have been too credible, still no convictions as yet I believe, if indeed he was a witness for the prosecution.

Whether it comes out in the wash, who knows, it all depends on what they want us to know.

  13. Plus, I think the club should be asking serious questions of the FOCUS “pest control” guy as its fairly evident from his now pulled job description that he has little respect for those he is targeting. Indeed, it says a lot about him as a person as does the sudden disappearance as soon as it became public knowledge.

As for the statement, tt may or may not be much of an olive branch, but I hope each side can come together

  14. Good statement from Celtic. The GB’s Cxxx head being out in his place in my view.

Personally, I would not even have replied to someone with so little respect that he would even think of using such a name.

  15. Gedhed7,

am from derry myself.. there is a few hotels in city centre tower hotel, city hotel, travel lodge all within walkin distance to bars, shops etc..

On paddys day there is street parades, live bands etc and town does be extremely busy so if your thinking about going check accomodation and see whats available..

You wont go wrong drinking in the pubs in waterloo street as most will have live irish traditional bands playing all that weekend….

This post sums it up. One side is lying and it shouldnt be too difficult to prove if the GB are telling the truth about a celtic security official giving evidence against them in court.

  17. Shocking statement from the club lots of words saying nothing, The green brigade having nothing to gain by accussing peter lawwell or celtic in general of helping police to target fans it should have been peter lawwell who came out with a statement not a faceless club bullshit one. CFC NOT PLC

Anyone who is directly one of the 18% or is indirectly connected to us has no business voting for SNP and independence……..it will ultimately end in tears (for us)

Thanks for telling us our buisness………..

    —————————————————————————————————————

Its my business too (being one of the 18%)……. and I am not telling anyone how to go about their business only that the way I conducted my own experience with the Stasi in the context of being a Celtic supporter on the day of the game worked for me.

If by relating it to others and it then helps others then its been a worthwhile excersize, right?

  19. Jedhed 7,think McDowellcelt covered everything,Abbey b&b is also popular and the owner Seamus is very helpful..

  20. The statement from Celtic “sounds” good but it lacks substance .

It doesnt address the GB’s repeated requests for meetings which seem to have been ignored . Maybe there is a rogue employee CP who working with the polis.

How the polis can justify the time and money that they must have invested in this campaign is quite beyond me.

  21. hun skelper

Neither does the club have anything to gain by barring a group of fans.

    Look at what it’s caused.

nail on head with the time and money point.

Someone posted a couple of weeks ago that the FOCUS group was up for review again in March – could it be they are trying to avoid some bad headlines when its highlighted how much of a waste of time and taxpayers money it has been?

  23. Statement appears to be a tentative laying of cards on the poker table, but some cards are still blind and others players have still to show their hand.

    Long way to go…

The problem, it seems to me, is not so much the difference between supporter and customer, more the difference between community ‘identity’ and corporate ‘brand’. Football crowds are one of the last bastions of community gathering together in large crowds, expressing their ‘identity’. Corporate brands and customers are the preferred model nowadays. Even political parties market themselves as products.

In contemporary Scotland this problem is exacerbated by the politics of emotive, ill though out, vote catching legislation; police budget cuts; the long lingering death of The Mints vanity project; and the future plans of the PLC and its ‘brand’.

Long ways to go in this political quagmire. Beware the spin of the roulette wheel…. Personally I hope all supporters groups come together to clear this up.

    Touch one touch all.

  24. TET

Agree with your 3 sides theory and the ‘poppy banner’ being a catalyst to tensions.

That said – issues such as ‘lateral movement’ and sitting-down appeared to have been tempered. Block season ticket renewals were resolved – block bookings were allocated at Hampden and Tifo displays were allowed and actively encouraged (including the recent Barca display).

Lenny’s ‘presentation’ of the SPL trophy – the 4 horsemen banner – the Jock display and subsequent others all suggest that there is some form of communication ongoing.

What has gone on outwith CP appears to be (or could be) another matter – a question of accountability? Who knows? IMO – there definitely appears to be an issue that is yet to surface in the public domain.

No communication = no reconciliation = stalemate!

Good statement from board, exactly what wanted to hear. Now need to back up with action. Some people never happy an wantin to bash pl. He was nevrr goin to come out an answer allegations bout him. It is club statement not his statement. As club says whst would be their motivation in antagonisin its own support. As they say ludicrous. Now lets get together an end this internal division. Only dialogue can improve situation an the club can start to support our fans who are bein persecuted.

Aye it is Rod came in to do the vocals for some other guy, canny really remember the story, nice version tho’ off tae steal Mrs Starry’s credit card…

  28. Divide, divide, divide. I’m on the bus and on my phone and I won’t be able to provide a full response for several pages. However to pick up one point. We’re told that Celtic must be complicit because the security chief was called as a prosecution witness. In his witness statement did he provide incriminating evidence? He possibly did but the mere fact that he was called is meaningless.

    People are too entrenched already.

The club have acknowledged the reports of harassment and reminded fans how to complain about it. Get complaining. All they have to gain by targetting the GB is a loss of revenue and everybody knows how much PL likes that.

The harassment of the GB must stop but it wont happen by sidestepping the two official routes. One of which they’re involved with interestingly enough.

  29. Praecepta

By all accounts the tifo cost the GB 10,000 of money raised through donations. The club helped in no way whatsoever and even refused a request for bin bags from the GB when they were spending many hours setting up the display.

The club did however subsequently sell framed photos of the same display.
