Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

  1. I chuckled at Mr Leggat’s latest rant, given that he turned up in the Celtic press box for a CL game against AC Milan sporting a distinctive red and black striped tie/hanky ensemble.

To avoid post-lunch stomach-troubling images forming, I should add he was also wearing a suit and shirt as well…

If there has been harassment of GB members then this has to stop immediatly. The police cannot be above the law and discriminate against one set of fans.

However, as you rightly point out, the GB don’t exactly do themselves any favours with some of their antics and while we can debate about some of the songs and the lateral movement until the cows come home, the simple fact is that if they followed the rules that Celtic set down, then the majority of these issues would dissapear, and if the police were still discriminating against them, they would have a much better case.

When you apply for mastermind you have to put down a second and third choice of specialist subject for if you make it through to semis and the final.

His second choice was the History of Rangers FC but was told that 8 months wasn’t a long enough period to consitute a history.

P.S. Got 10 right, and yeah could have interupted sooner on some questions but have noticed no one does that on mastermind so might be against the rules.

  6. Well Ernie,

We all have our reasons for wanting or not wanting independence. For me the chance to ditch the Butchers Apron should be taken.

  7. Istanbulcelt,

I have not made my mind up as to which way i’ll vote next year.

However Bills such as the Offensive Behaviour Act do make me wonder, if that is the sort of tripe the SNP with their limited powers can currently come up with, despite heavy opposition both within and outwith Holyrood to that Bill, what bewildering and ridiculous legislation they could invent, should they be given the mandate once again after a YES vote.

Its not an idea i find very appealing I have to admit.

Thats why it has an impact upon the Independence Vote next year.

Fair enough but the older I get the more I long for such a party to exist .

  9. Legless…. “is Neil Lennon embarrassed by his adoptive country..?” that would be the country where he is villified in the press, attacked in the street, forced of the road when driving, sent bullets and bombs in the post…yeah Neil stand up for Scotland….

It’s always easy answering quiz questons in the house. I bet the guy was panicking in that famous auld chair. I managed to get one more question right than him but I had no pressure sitting on my sofa.

The questions did appear to be very easy for Mastermind but I guess it’s because we all know the subject. I wonder how much the guy studied only to get asked where the final was held for the UEFA cup final, who we played in 1967 and who formed the club. He probably couldn’t believe the questions were that easy. In fairness they did get harder and he got a couple wrong.

Fair play to him regarding the general knowledge section he was immense.

    Well done that man!

That was my point, the Police are acting like Stormtroopers, but the GB seem to be on a suicide mission.

If they used their brains, the Police would be looking like the bad guys. Also they should be filming every contact with the police and putting it on you tube instantly before the phones can be confiscated to wipe the evidence

Specific allegations made in the GB statement.

  13. Mastermind has changed a lot over recent years – in the main I think to make it relevant to those of us who don’t know every obscure Greek philosopher going and haven’t a clue about the plots of operas.

The general knowledge questions are definitely a lot broader now and include what might be called popular culture – tv and the like. There was none of that it Magnus’ day. Specialist subjects are also much broader. I don’t think a footballing topic would have been allowed years ago.

  14. I see MWD is coming under some pressure for having organised a charity cycle to Belfast on the weekend we may win the league. All in jest of course and if there is a queue on the day to boot him up the backside I’ll happily join in, however I’m more than delighted to be taking part and if it means missing out on seeing us win the league to raise money for such a worthy cause then its a sacrifice worth making.

Won’t stop me relentlessly slagging him about it mind you!!

PL is in a tricky position here

If he comments about the allegations they then become red top property to manipulate as they see fit. If he fails to comment then the accusations go unanswered and fans become angry. He cannot comment on every single bad thing that gets said about Celtic, otherwise it would be a full time job.

But its weird how folks like Keevins and Traynor were welcomed into CP for long enough yet paying fans and supporters get hassled

The GB are still the topic of the day I see.

Whether I believe them or the board it really makes no difference, both sides are entrenched and will not be for moving an inch.

There are always three sides to every story, in this case, the GB’s side, the boards side, and the truth.

But, all things considered, I reckon the GB shot themselfs in the foot with the Poppy banner, things, imo have gone downhill ever since re their relations with the board.

I hope for the sake of the club, things are sorted sooner rather than later.

A quick coupla questions re the Green Brigade.

And bearing in mind that I love what they bring to the atmosphere, but am not a fan of their repertoire.

Do you enjoy watching and listening to them, and to be honest, wish you were a good few years younger so you were there?

Would you be mightily p-d off if you were subjected to what the Green Brigade are?

Would you expect the club to make efforts to find out why the police are targeting you,and make efforts to stop it?

If your son/daughter or niece/nephew was on the receiving end,how p-d off would you be?

If the answers to the above are yes-or mightily-,I think we need to make our voices heard. Mute acceptance won’t work.

Contact the club, let them know how you feel. It could be YOU being targeted tomorrow.

This site is full of people who have posted about doing things in the past which are considerably worse than the GB have done.

There but for the Grace of God………

  21. If we vote ‘NO’ we will not have the opportunity again for decades.

Salmond et al are transients and we won’t find out how the political landscape will look unless we vote ‘YES’

Long-term thinking required, and I believe an independent Scotland will encourage a better class of politician to emerge.

I’ve seen people answering questions on individual footballers or on very specific topics like World cup finals where questions can be tricky like who was linesman or how many appearences did a player have with a certain team. Things like that require much more revision. i think anyone of us could have done well on the Celtic questions but I suppose he wasn’t to know what they were going to ask.

He did say he only got to do Celtic as a broad subject as no one had done it before.

It’s always annoyed me that journo’s get in for free to football matches and then critcise fans for not turning up and paying £20-£30 to get in. Moaning about the lack of atmosphere or supporters present. They should be made to pay to get in.

They are always moaning about the lack of quality it’s a cheek. Some of these guys have never ever paid to get into a football match. They get the best seats available and probably get free refreshments and then criticise the very people who ensure they have a job.

‘Also they should be filming every contact with the police and putting it on you tube instantly before the phones can be confiscated to wipe the evidence’

To have any conclusive evidence against McCrindle + his cohorts you would have to be filming right next to them to pick up the threats that they issue.

Try that on Sunday yourself and see how far you get before you’re threatened with arrest. I’ll wager less than 60secs.

  25. greenjedi @15:16 it was the manner in which those seats were allocated and the subsequent muscle flexing and threats of posters on the GB site, aimed at those in bordering sections, which I challenged. Banned and deleted. Openess, accountability and disclosure apply yo everyone.

The moniker I posted under was NaeLimeadeAtIbrox.

I then closed my account with them. That didn’t stop them soliciting me for donations and merchandising.

I’ve nothing against them but am wary of whom I support.

I don’t support the present regime at Parkhead and never will.

    I support Celtic. Obviously I can’t prove that on-line.

Although as my on-line buddy ACeilerGoneOfRust says, not being an UberCelt is no proof that one is not a Celt.

If I had been treated as is claimed by the GB, I’d sue the police and Celtic when the threat of criminal charges had gone. I would not accept an offer to settle and would have my day in court. Small claims because then the issue of their costs does not arise.

  26. FINALLY……….

CQN posters are making the connection between….

    The Dear Leader (Alex Salmon)

    J. Edgar Hoover (Kenny Macaskill)

Gotham City Police Commissioner (Stephen House)

    The uniformed STASI

    The MSM

The other sycophants in legal political and power (who votes for these people anyway?)

They are ALL interconnected and they are ALL standing “four square” in the kirk, singing from the same hymn sheet. Your a fool if you believe otherwise.

This is about pulling the 18% (thats us) down to the level of the 80% (thats them)

There will be no let up from this state of affairs until the powers are taken from them.

DO NOT VOTE FOR THEM…..ITS NOT COMPLICATED

Anyone who is directly one of the 18% or is indirectly connected to us has no business voting for SNP and independence……..it will ultimately end in tears (for us)

As an aside……I actually had experience of the legal process 2 (?) years ago when I was wrongfully accused of a public order offence by the Scottish Stasi.

This was during the RFC (IA) v Celtic game when the commissioner and MSM alleged rapes and other crimes went of the graph during these games.

Upon refusal to accept the ticket I should have been arrested immediately, an event that was not forthcoming and failed to materialise.

Realising the issue was escalating from a public disorder allegation issue to an appearance at court, a possible perjury conviction, a possible 7 years in prison and loss of their jobs, benefits and perks the two miscreants backed down (I was fortunate enough to have a witness)

I still had to engage a lawyer at my own expense to nail it down though. It seems that there is justice but only if you can pay for it.

So the moral of the story is this…….don’t be under the influence of drink/drugs, do not use foul language, have witnesses, take physical evidence if possible, seek legal advice and play them at their own game.

When their already mentioned careers, salaries, benefits, perks etc are on the line and under serious threat they fade to grey………

DO NOT VOTE FOR THEM…..ITS NOT COMPLICATED

I guess we’ll find out then what the board’s feelings to the GB really are; I hope they say something aimed at constructive dialogue though I can’t help but feel that the GB more or less calling PL an outright liar might have been a silly move

i’ve said from the outset that the handling of this has been quite shambolic, I certainly hope a solution can be found. I’d also like to know what the board think of a senior police officer assigned to celtic supporters who calls his job “termite control”. highly unprofessional is it not?

  31. Mort,

The Token Tim, as someone else has mentioned the independence referendum is NOT a vote for the SNP! The Scottish people can vote for whoever they want in the event of Scotland becoming independent.

They should respect the intelligence of readers and posters who can make their own mind up with regard to the independence referendum and quit the incessant attempts at brainwashing cqners.
