Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

Used to be that if you were arrested and charged with breach of the peace in Glasgow, the two members of the public whose peace had in fact been breached, were the same two police officers who arrested you in the first place. Saves time! With the new football offences legislation, it is possible that the police did not manage to be offended in the first instance, but on reviewing film/camera evidence after the fact, decide that action must be taken against those who escaped justice in the first place. A seat number may suffice, especially if it belongs to a season ticket holder, following which the Glasgow Police may request the identification of said party. If supplied that could lead to an arrest away from the place where the “offence” has taken place, ie at work, at home, at a port, or even, it is alleged, at the CSA London Road. Such a scenario would involve cooperation between Celtic PLC and the Police, and indeed it may on occasion, be justified, but given that there are few if any convictions what is the purpose and objectives of these prosecutions. Health and Safety is paramount, but is it mentioned in any of the charges? I doubt that.

I think the catalyst was not so much the GB banner but rather the the placing of the poppy on the Hoops. I think that, not the Willo Flood signing, should be on PLs gravestone.

I honestly believe that the club itself caused the tensions with full knowledge that there would a major outcry from the support. The GB banner highlighting this was a reaction to this.

When it comes to being a witness at criminal proceedings, there is no discretion on the part of the witness. You’re cited. You appear. Or you’re held in contempt.

    Utter bollocks to suggest otherwise.

  4. Anybody see more than a passing resemblance between brother W and Lennie on the banners either side of the door to cp. I could be onto something here – some serious Celtic da Vinci code sh-*

Good statement from Celtic. The GB’s Cxxx head being out in his place in my view.

Personally, I would not even have replied to someone with so little respect that he would even think of using such a name

Jimmci, please be aware that the author of the GB is not Cxxx head. this issue arose yesterday after a CQN poster copied a link to a twitter page. The owner of the page had merely copied the GB’s post:

I’m unclear as to why GB would muddy the waters this way. Are they unaware he has no choice, if they have a lawyer I assume not. What then did he say in court? Was it not the truth?

Fom my post: – block bookings were allocated at Hampden and Tifo displays were allowed and actively encouraged (including the recent Barca display).

I am well aware that the GB raised the funds for the Tifo – my comments state: allowed and actively encouraged!

‘Green said, the way forward for Rangers is to buy the players not getting a game at the big Clubs, for example Juve say, Barca B, or players who are 21, 22 and no chance of a game at these big clubs.

What’s up with CQN? I’m getting a ‘Microsoft Security Alert’ message when I open this site.

  25. Clear statement from Celtic. Let’s see what happens in the weeks ahead:

    – do the Police continue harassment of innocent Celtic fans who have not committed an offence? This should be detailed and shared with Celtic and all fan groups and the Police so we have a common view.

    – do the Police charge Celtic fans inside or outside the ground. As I a phase mentioned previously I have seen several times close to kick off a police van stopping teenage individual Celtic fans and 2 officers stepping out to talk to the kid. Intimidating for any lad making his way late to the game I would imagine.

    – if there is a pattern of harassment and the details are there ( inside or outside the ground ) what action do Celtic take, shared with the supporters groups.

    – if Celtic are telling the truth and are not colluding with the Police ( they should explan if GB season tickets are being revoked even for 1 game ) then the Police have to answer.

    – who is controlling the Focus group. Is it Campbell Corrigan. What are their KPIs that determine success or failure. Is it the number of arrests , ejections, songs sung, photographs taken, prosecutions. If the Focus Group fails it’s mandate will it be closed.Who and when is that decision made?

This has a long way to run. The GB have released their statement, now Celtic. When does Campbell Corrigan take the microphone or does he throw the Focus Leader ( Allegedly an Aberdeen fan with loyalist mates on Facebook ) to the wolves. Is Campbell Corrigan a modern 21st Century Policeman or Campbell Ogilvies reflection ?

Until Campbell Corrigan breaks his silence the ball is at his feet.

Once we have his official position then we have a baseline and we will find the guilty party soon enough I would imagine.

The GB spent a lot of time, effort and money – with the help of donations – to set up the full stadium display for the Barca game.

Ok – they were obviously given access by the club to do so, but as far as I am aware that’s as far as it went.

The whole display was coordinated by the GB, and resulted in the fantastic spectacle that was seen worldwide.

Since then the club have made a ‘nice little earner’ by flogging prints of that night.
