Away from pubic scrutiny

272

Appointing a manager is always a stressful time. Being left to get on with business away from scrutiny is rare, so it is ideal when all scrutiny falls on one particular candidate, leaving you free to meet and discuss plans with others.

You can be absolutely sure Celtic are speaking to more than one candidate, no decisions have been made and the ball is still in play. Meetings that are in the public domain are nothing more than that, many more have not made it into the newspapers.

  1. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

I’m a fan (short for fanatic).

New signings and fresh blood into the squad never fails to stimulate …. in any circumstances.

So, can I just say I think the signing of this young bloke – whose presence on this earth I was blissfully unaware of two days ago – is bold, imaginative & exciting.

    Brilliant talent, amazing prospect etc.

“We need new supporters-preferably with steel balls”

I wonder if Iron Balls McGinty is still around here.

No need to be a ‘Jerk’

    😂👍

  3. Did Brendan have a fairly significant ‘second in command’?

May have been Chris or similar.

    Has he gone elsewhere?

  4. IF and it’s still an if till it’s signed and sealed, fair effs to the board for this, no often that I praise them but they will deserve it in this instance, I imagine BR has asked for a serious upgrade re facilities and ongoing trading, which we are doing pretty well at the mo.

As for who buys the players, I have always said that the club buy them, the exception being the Japanese players, I get the the manager will have the final say, always have, again fair effs to the scouting dept, just keep Pedro away from it, far far away.

  5. Uncle Jimmy

Chris Davies was Brendan’s number 2…. So to speak.

I have heard a fair few first hand tales of how strong Chris is as an operator.

I think Big Wavy said he may be going to Swansea as a head coach though.

That would be a loss in my view ….. Although it may give space for some new creativity to emerge with a new second in command. This may explain the process including the Mumbai chap and a few others.

Also there could be space, aside from that, for Scott B to make a return. There is huge mutual respect between him and Brendan.

  6. Upgrades to full indoors pitch at Lennoxtown.

Special gym for Brendan as I know he enjoys a daily session himself.

Sports science team is decent in capability but may need new leadership. They have good bait not world class kit. This could be upgraded.

Most of the above are tweaks and not dramatic changes. Frankly these should be the small stuff which should not break a deal but could add great value on the park.

The number 2 is critical. For me it needs to really help Brendan himself evolve and grow.

  7. You can bet your bottom dollar that Rodgers won’t be the next manager ,why well if you are looking at other options then Celtic isn’t his preferred option,

  8. Celtic are close to sealing a stunning managerial return to the club for Brendan Rodgers. The 50-year-old, who enjoyed a hugely successful period at Celtic between 2016 and 2019, had planned to take an extended break from the game after his sacking by Leicester City in April. Leeds United had also set sights on Rodgers as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, talks between Rodgers, Celtic’s main shareholder Dermot Desmond and other members of the Scottish champions’ board have progressed positively to the point where a second tenure is all-but sealed. Celtic believe they have their man. Barring a late and unexpected change of heart, Rodgers will replace Ange Postecoglou, who departed Celtic to join Tottenham Hotspur after presiding over a domestic treble.

The makeup of Rodgers’ backroom team remains to be seen. John Kennedy, who was Postecoglou’s assistant, is also wanted by Spurs. Yet Rodgers and Kennedy enjoyed a previously strong relationship. It remains highly possible Rodgers will want to retain the former Celtic centre-back. Rodgers’ assistant from his first time at Celtic, Chris Davies, has been strongly linked with the manager’s position at Swansea City.

Rodgers’ exit for Leicester four years ago triggered animosity from a section of the Celtic support. Rodgers had earlier become frustrated by what he perceived as an unwillingness by Celtic to push the boat out for new players. The former Liverpool manager, though, retained the strong respect of Desmond and an affinity with Glasgow. Rodgers will return to a Celtic side who have already qualified for the Champions League after the sealing of back-to-back titles under Postecoglou. Making inroads in European competition, a key problem for Celtic in recent years, will be a prime Rodgers target.

Enzo Maresca, Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, Daniel Farke and Kjetil Knutsen of Bodø/Glimt had also been under consideration by Celtic.

My own personal opinion is that Brendan Rodgers is the preferred choice, but there will be other irons in the fire just so we don’t get “Eddie Howed” again.

  10. i’d welcome back Rogers with grateful open arms. However, it depends on “how” he is appointed. We have offered him the job and its important he doesn’t dither and wait to weigh up other options. This would alienate many fans and not endear him given the way he left.

He has an opportunity to grab the opportunity and make a statement along the lines of unfinished business and repair broken bridges.

No more old board silly project skinny signings – we need athletes who can compete in Europe – with a team that can adjust to the needs of the game (eg defending a lead away from home).

  11. bournesouprecipe on

Talks were apparently held up today as Brendan was away having his teeth polished.

  12. Aye the number two is a slight problem, but I’m sure it’s being worked on, not Broonie for this bear, he needs to spend more time as number one IMO.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Rodgers won’t be the next manager ,why well if you are looking at other options then Celtic isn’t his preferred option,

If Rodgers were to say no to Celtic and the board started looking for alternatives, you’d be the first one on here asking why they hadn’t interviewed other candidates.

  14. Initially I was lukewarm on Rodgers returning but I am now convinced it could be the start of something special,

Nothing is certain until contracts are signed but at this stage I really want it to happen,

  15. I’m home for another few days

Get it signed now Brendan and I will be there at the Parkhead gates , just like I and thousands more were thete the first time.

    Mirror mirror on the wall.

HH . The journey is overheating.

  16. Rodgers being reported as all but a done deal barring a last minute change of heart. Should he sign the deal he will arrive at a club in a much stronger position than 7 years ago. We have 7 top players and a decent squad. Most importantly we appear to have a competent, efficient, forward thinking and decisive CEO with a decent supporting executive. Scouting and recruitment is in a much better place than it was during his first tenure. I’m am sure our current squad are excited at the prospect of working under an elite manager who had a hugely successful first spell in charge.

That is a very rough sketch with those figs mate,

It changes daily as youl know you could(prob on your phone tonight)go out tomorrow and buy x amount of shares in the open market.thats the nature.

So say within the 75ish% held if 1 of those houses starts to increase their holding it would be quite quickly seen if friendly/ hostile to the rest of the holding,From memory if a holding goes over 40% a process starts where a full takeover must be prepared for ie make an offer to other shareholders.DD several years ago had to get a letter exempting from the markets rules as his holding iirc David Low,said went up to around 44%(can’t recall at mo why)

The remainder 25% alas wee tiny shareholders, bought in originally/fridge,framed pics are handy for board as the use of its power defaults to board,if people don’t use the power at Agm,shares if not used, voting wise defaults to the Celtic board, next time the paperwork comes in after an agm look at % for v against any resolution usually 97/8 % for small % against.

So the 25% defaults to Board via the rules if not used/active so ordinary fans may have share, but its how the power in it is used.if it is updated and share fully maintained, lost, death,a myriad of reasons.

Celtics company secretary should run the maintenance better for a more open and democratic Celtic

The Celtic Trust tried to encourage a drive to recheck and reregister and update shareholding, uniting tiny shareholdings

But the 25% grew from 95 as big holders move out Denis o Brien etc some move in

    All very roughly explained b2b

Shares are nice in a framed pic,but it’s how it’s used,it’s maintained and how it’s updated after say dilution.when say we need money.

There’s diff types share with diff rights

    Ordinary shares-giving dif rights voting

Preference shares-dif voting rights and diff return dividend.

    Individual shares

Group shares (supporters club) all in 25% default to Board unless fully maintained since 1995

    It’s complex too

  21. This is either spot on or it’s setting us up for negative headlines if Rodgers isn’t the man.

Personally I want the best available and wiling man for the job. BR annoyed me by leaving when he did. Him and Ange have changed my perspective on managers – I will invest no time in hero worshipping them again. They will leave if the money and job is right. That’s the reality. When they do, best available man for the job please. Rinse, repeat. We remain, they get the privilege of working for us.

Not getting too high or too low whatever happens. My big doubt remains our hosts take on this. He’s more ITK than most I reckon, but perhaps his sources ain’t as itk as they used to be??

  23. If the prodigal son Rodgers returns it would be a fantastic “Welcome Home” party at Celtic Park.

Left us in great shape last time round, 8 points ahead, 11M banked and plenty of time for the new manager to prepare for Champions League, not like that antipodean charlatan Postecoglou.
