Back pages filled with empty nonsense

My inbox today was full of angst at the latest series of ‘favourites’ for the manager’s job.  There are upwards of 20 journalists working on this story right now, each of whom need to push the story on every day.

No information?  Tough, write something.  Not found a single person Peter Lawwell has spoken to?  Hard lines, get Ownie’s neighbour’s granny on again, she’ll be good for a word.

Who’s fault is this?  The journos are just doing a job, the media have space to fill – and it will be filled with any type of speculation.  We all know the rules so why take the bait?

By the time the news of Neil’s resignation leaked out on Thursday Celtic’s moves were already underway.  Potential candidates jockeyed for position in the limelight for a couple of days, and for most cases they were disappointed the call didn’t arrive.  Even Henrik was talking about returning to Celtic at one point, only to reaffirm his commitment to his current employers a couple of days later.

Agents will also be busy offering their clients, Celtic will respond respectfully, but just because an agent opens a one-sided dialogue doesn’t mean meaningful dialogue is taking place.  Celtic will also speak to applicants out of courtesy.  If a former player or prominent candidate asks to be considered, you can expect Celtic to meet them, whether they have a genuine interest or not.

>90% of this activity will be fruitless.  Some of it will seep out into the public domain but it is vastly more likely that those wanting to raise their profile make the newspapers, as opposed to those Celtic have approached.

I think Billy Stark is a proper football guy – who perhaps lacks the charisma some would seek but he could get an assistant who can do the front of house stuff. Billy knows football and would get the Bhoys playing the Glasgow Celtic way – I’m certain…

    Nigel Farage for manager?

He seems to have tactical nous hates Europe loves Huns

    Perfect!

  4. 15M for David Marshall…….makes you wonder why we let him go…..err, why did we?

We will get the manager/coach that matches the ambition of the PLC Board…….no more and no less.

Any ACCURATE numbers for SB sales yet?

  5. The votes for UKIP and other anti-EU parties (n.b. not all of them are right wing) is a symptom of people feeling disenfranchised. Politics is systemised and detached from the everyday experience of ordinary people. The perception is that stuff is done to us – not on our behalf or at our request – by what used to be called a “closed shop”. Look at the turnout figures. In North Lanarkshire it was only 28%. Westminister seems remote enough but Brussels might as well be the Moon. This is a failure of politics and politicians to engage the people they represent and sell the case for Europe. That applies to all parties and accounts for the rise of interest in Scottish “independence”.

However, the notion that UKIP is somehow a bunch of outsiders who are storming the barricades of the Westminister Village to give the main parties a bloody nose is laughable. Nigel Farage (Dulwich College – £12K per term for boarders) and Mostyn Neil Hamilton (Cash for questions in parliament) are no less part of the political establishment than any of the main players in the main parties. The only difference appears to be that, rather than turn up for work inthe EU parliament – they simply don’t bother. Stop the gravy train? These guys want a shot at driving it.

“My related bugbear is when we – too often – pass the ball straight to a Bhoy’s feet or worse, just behind him. Slows us up horribly.”

    JG

That was an OK philosophy for school football but in the modern, professional game, defenders are so fit and quick they will intercept passes played in front of a player.

When a team breaks and outnumbers defenders, then a pass can be played for a player to run onto without breaking his stride. Otherwise, it has to be to feet (or even behind).

Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.

  8. Best interview I saw for a reasoned individual giving a response as to why he voted UKIP.

Some people should not be allowed to vote or at the very least there should be an entrance exam at teh polling stations with basic IQ questions.

  17. Random thoughts on last week’s elections

    – There may well be a growing anti-SNP majority in Scotland.

    – Clegg will go.

    – Cameron didn’t do well but it wasn’t a disaster.

    – Labour didn’t do as well as it should have a year before a general Election.

    – Is Ed the man??? Doesn’t look like it. E Balls? Y Cooper? A Burnham?

    – The EU and immigration are important to us. But media poison has closed down any

possibility of rational debate on either.

    – Trust me, the EU and immigration are not popular with many ordinary people in

Scotland. Immigration resonates less only because there are fewer immigrants up here.

    – Farage comes across well right now – the genial guy down the pub. But his party activists include Grade A loonies and some well dodgy figures. Doubtful that they’ll stand up to a year of scrutiny.

Some good points in there. Only comments I would add are :

    – The anti-SNP feeling has always been there if the polls are to be believed.

    – Much of politics these days is about image. Ed Milliband doesn’t have it. Andy Burnham might. But I don’t see a change of leader unless the election goes against Labour. Current polls suggest a Labour win however.

    – In addition to this, the image of Scottish Labour is poor. Their leader reminds me of one of my wee maws buddies from The Regal bingo.

    – Clegg is dead in the water and has been for some time. Broken promises and weak in debate. Votes should go to Labour.

    – Agree re: the debate around immigration and EU. The ball’s burst. And I’m not talking about Ed…or am I?

  23. Just a repeat warning for anyone. Don’t give money for a CQN sick relative in Portugal. It’s a hoax.
