Back pages filled with empty nonsense

My inbox today was full of angst at the latest series of ‘favourites’ for the manager’s job.  There are upwards of 20 journalists working on this story right now, each of whom need to push the story on every day.

No information?  Tough, write something.  Not found a single person Peter Lawwell has spoken to?  Hard lines, get Ownie’s neighbour’s granny on again, she’ll be good for a word.

Who’s fault is this?  The journos are just doing a job, the media have space to fill – and it will be filled with any type of speculation.  We all know the rules so why take the bait?

By the time the news of Neil’s resignation leaked out on Thursday Celtic’s moves were already underway.  Potential candidates jockeyed for position in the limelight for a couple of days, and for most cases they were disappointed the call didn’t arrive.  Even Henrik was talking about returning to Celtic at one point, only to reaffirm his commitment to his current employers a couple of days later.

Agents will also be busy offering their clients, Celtic will respond respectfully, but just because an agent opens a one-sided dialogue doesn’t mean meaningful dialogue is taking place.  Celtic will also speak to applicants out of courtesy.  If a former player or prominent candidate asks to be considered, you can expect Celtic to meet them, whether they have a genuine interest or not.

>90% of this activity will be fruitless.  Some of it will seep out into the public domain but it is vastly more likely that those wanting to raise their profile make the newspapers, as opposed to those Celtic have approached.

…mentioned on here about three weeks ago that I had heard GP was for the off so no surprise but the worrying aspect, esp if Park also leaving – here I’m more circumspect – is the feeling the club management is imploding. Makes you worry and ask….why?

What us really happening at CP? Wonder how many players will also exit? Sammi was a blow – and maybe the catalyst for Lennie. I really would worry if KC were to follow Neil, Johan, Sammi and co out the door.

  3. So three years of investment and Celtic (Nation) could be playing in the Conference?

  12. Have to say I nearly choked with laughter reading Tom English’s latest piece on the BBC Website when discussing how badly Hibs had fallen.

He skewers the players, Butcher and Petrie; mocks them about visits to Dumfries and Alloa – that’s where their opponents play, after all – and then has the gall to describe next season’s Championship as the “marquee league” to which he and his ilk will be driven to follow.

    It’s truly pathetic.

Tom forgot to tell us how many qualifying places in Europe go to the marquee league though I think he knows fine well it’s a big fat zero.

I would have thought Tom may have been saying Hibs had, instead, gone to the promised land.

  15. Was going CQN cold turkey…

    Evening all.

Deary me. CQN surpassed itself today with its condescending Left wing nonsense.

    JonnyRambo,

How would you dispose of those ‘Right wing subhuman scum’? The usual ways? Of course, we all know that Lefties like to portray themselves as nice, caring people. Indeed some are. Others though are as intolerant, hateful and destructive as their Right wing counterparts. You are no different to one another. Just like the Right, your Leftist friends have given their support to a variety of murderers, terrorist groups and bigots. Moreover, just like the Right, Left wingers can also be dim, gullible and a little deranged. Witness those who lapped up the laughably stupid Michael Moore.

    Robert Tressell,

We tried your class based politics. It usually ends with a broken economy or with a regime which imprisons and kills its enemies. A St Johnstone season book is more popular than Leftist groups. The working class don’t want your friends because they despise us. You think we are thick or racist or homophobic or sexist. You mock spelling and lack of education and therefore show that you are as snobbish and elitist as the Tory old boys.

As for UKIP, despite sharing their concerns about the corrupt and undemocratic EU, they wouldn’t get my vote, nor would the snakeoil salesman Farage; yet nor would I show snobbish disdain towards their voters. Much of CQN is middle class, you don’t need to worry about jobs or housing, but other people do. Not being a nationalist, it would make no difference to me whether a Scot or a Pole were to be allocated a council house before me, however I accept that there are others who are frustrated about such issues. Sneering at them or calling them racists will only give UKIP even more support. The left, because of its sneering and attempts to curtail freedom of expression, have given UKIP all the strength it now has. Well done chaps. Well done to those Scottish Leftie loons who attemped to prevent Mr Farage from voicing his democratic opinions in Scotland.

Incidentally, let us not forget that UKIP are deriving some of their support from many Labour and Liberal supporters.

Labour created this mess by showing ignorance and hatred to the ordinary working man who was affected by unregulated immigration. The result is that our immigrant communities now suffer from hostility because the local people are so angry at being ignored or treated as fools by the smug Left. Those locals who are racist deserve our pity, they are missing out on one of life’s great blessings – interacting with people from different cultures.

One last point. The SNP supporters on here, as if we didn’t already know, are wrong to insist that Scotland is so much different from England. Scotland is not a fundamentally Left wing country. Most of us know that.

Another last point: “British jobs for British workers.” A racist statement from a Labour man. Shame on those of you who voted for this man and his party.

Still love you all. Back to cold turkey.

  16. Oh, and I don’t care about Celtic Nation. Only Celtic FC.

So Peter Houston has not left yet then? That’s a bit strange unless Neil Lennon didn’t agree with his appointment and he was placed at the club by someone else?

Is there any truth that Neil was oferred Peter Houston as his assistant and turned it down?

What about that guy McGuiness? Who appointed him? Strange football appointments.

Twenty First, thanks for your reply.

The EKYC 99’S haven’t folded yet but they need about six players in to keep going. As I posted earlier U/15

It’s disappointing when a juvenile team folds but the amount of politics and hassle the coaches have to deal with is incredible. The coaches have some amount of dedication to deal with the less positive aspects of coaching, all done on a voluntary.

  25. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Interesting and exciting times ahead, methinks.

The dawn of a new era.

Let’s hope it is of the modern type, as played by most progressive teams in Europe.

If it is true that John Park is also moving on, then perhaps scouts too have a shelf life.

I would love to see an up and coming European coach, they are not managers any more, taking over.

Someone who is bubbling away under the radar, who is ready to try his hand at a big club, where the challenge is not the league, but having the opportunity to test himself in Europe.

It is the policy we have adopted for our player recruitment, with the carrot of providing a mutually beneficial stepping stone to a bigger platform.

Makes sense to me and it makes sense to myself, too!
