Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

Like our host, my first preference is for Gary Hooper to stay at Celtic, he is capable of being up there with Chalmers and Lennox over the long haul. And of course it would be interesting to see him alongside our new man Balde. That said, I am on record as saying that if he wants to leave more than he wants to stay then it is to the highest bidder, beit Hull who I mentioned, QPR, or indeed Reading, a club more than capable of coming back up to the EPL. In some respects Hooper is worth more to a Championship club that wants to go up than an EPL team somewhere in mid-division. In that sense, if true, I welcome the intervention of the Berkshire boys, and hope, not without hope, that Harry Redknapp joins the chase.

Father McCallum later replaced by Father McKinnon who was a keen hibby and took me to Easter road for a game. I never saw him again when he left, until I was watching tv and he appeared as a guest on “this is your life”. If memory serves he was replaced by Father Gallacher?

For the first time in our lives, none of my brothers agree with any other and none agree with me regards what is being done about the corruption of the game of football – the game of football – in Scotland. Without direction, without a chain of command, whether you agree with it or not, you’ll get dissention and fallouts and desertion; or maybe put another way, maybe individuals will find an alternative to supporting corruption in professional football in Scotland. Well that is the way I see it.

I think the game of Football in Scotland is corrupt beyond repair. I could be wrong.

    KevJungle:

No bullshit mate, this is the way I see it, rightly or wrongly… this generation, just like the last generation, of ‘Celtic’ incumbents, they are going to pass all the shit onto the next generation and when I’m lying safe and fearless in death in my grave, my children are going to be worrying about their children because my generation shat it to take make issue when right was on their side.

That is the way I see it. No glory, no fame… only bequeathed shame, and we mortgage in hope the future well being of our kids.

I’d rather fight the fight NOW, in whatever form it takes – win or lose – than have my kids and their children too, fight it for me.

But that is just me, I don’t mind interrupting an enemy when he is making a mistake. Maybe, just maybe, my interruption might compound it.

I love Celtic FC from the cradle to the grave. Honest.

But, I’m not in a position to back the club financially just now although….I go to see the team whenever I can :)

What I won’t EVER do is become a – sheep – sweetie wifey – type of Celtic supporter, just to fall in line. No way.

If I think that some fholk – namely – the bored – are dragging their erses and not making Celtic FC the best that it can be – then surely I deserve the right to point this out ?

I hold up my hands and admit that – I’ve probably laboured the ploy by coming on here and saying the same thing – day in – day out – I apologize unreservedly for that. I’m sorry.

Montrose issue ‘unreserved’ apology to Rangers after programme ‘newco’ comments

    17 Dec 2012 17:08

FANS of the Ibrox club were ‘dismayed’ by the content of the weekend’s matchday programme, according to Charles Green, leading Montrose to make an unreserved apology.

MONTROSE have issued an apology to Rangers after the Ibrox club took exception to comments printed in their official matchday programme.

The teams met at Links Park on Saturday in a Third Division clash that ended in a 4-2 win for the visiting side.

However, upon arriving at the ground, Rangers fans were ‘dismayed’ by an article in the matchday programme that the club’s chief executive, Charles Green, described as being “intended to ridicule our club.”

The article read: “Playing their first season in Division Three, The Rangers are a newco of the now defunct Glasgow Rangers. Currently top of the table, they will be hoping to go on to seal the title and clinch their first silverware.”

Fans and club representatives soon began to forward the article on Twitter and various other forms of social media, moving Green to issue a statement on the club’s official website.

“I and all our supporters were dismayed by some of the content of the matchday programme at Montrose on Saturday which was clearly intended to ridicule our club,” read the statement.

“I have spoken personally to the chairman of Montrose today and he and his fellow directors have offered Rangers an unreserved apology which I am happy to accept.

“We were made extremely welcome at Montrose on Saturday and the club’s hospitality was fantastic, as has been our experience throughout the SFL this season.”

After making a personal apology to Rangers, directors at The Gable Endies then released a statement of their own.

“Following our match against Rangers last Saturday it was brought to our attention two pages within the programme referred to several Rangers players transferred from “oldco” to “newco” and indeed ignored the history of Rangers Football Club over 140 years.

“Due to time restraints in producing the programmes our programme editor had accepted the pages submitted by our correspondent however Montrose Football Club readily accept any content printed within the programme must be our responsibility.

“At no time was the information on players or the club printed to create a slight to anyone connected with Rangers Football Club or indeed ignore a proud and successful history therefore, Montrose Football Club very much regrets the pages included may have caused offence and we unreservedly apologise to Rangers Football Club, the management, players and supporters if they felt this was the case.

“Last Saturday’s match was played in a great atmosphere and spirit therefore we are equally saddened these pages caused offence.”

Intimidated to an apology for telling the truth… God help us.

  20. A Stor. Your post gave the impression that we are all under siege as Celtic supporters. There seemed to be the element of victimhood which is so prevalent within sections of the Celtic support. If I have misrepresented you then I take my comments back. Hope that answers your points. Hail hail!

100% agree sir. If Hooper wants away then let’s get s much for him as ‘our Arry’ or anyone else is willing to cough up. My surprise is the apparent lack of ambition in leaving a ECL club to play or a Championship one, if reports of his negotiations are accurate.

Strange is one word for it. My mum is still as religious now as she was back in the day. I know that she is very saddened by events in the church but remains firm in her beliefs.

My older bro from my wee village went off with 2 lads from your big toon to the Francis Xavier college to become priests.

My younger brother became a Jehovah’s Witness.

I only pray to Paddy Power for some respite these days.

I’ll tell you all about my bro and the other 2 lads some day, but probably best not on this blog!

Anyhow, on the tic I have the season book stuff ready but can’t bring myself to hit the send button. I’m hanging back to see if commitment levels from the high Heid tins goes up a notch. Defenders an absolute must. If Neil can’t see that, and the board can’t deliver, next season promises to be the most mundane for a very long time. I honestly believe that. Lets at least get 2 solid defenders in.
