Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

There in lies the problem – the fans DON’T own the club !!!

Don’t be fooled by all the talk that – PL / DD / the rest of the faceless wonders on the bored / are Cellic fans – they say they are but their GOD is YOUR money !!!

The folk in charge of Celtic FC at this minute – have effectively – parked the good ship Celtic in the lay-bye…waiting for the return of the huns imo. That’s their limit of ambition imo.

I thought it was gonnae be ‘our’ club when – Brian Dempsey stood on the steps and said – “The game is over – the rebels have won!”

But, the 1st crack appeared in the crest of the new bored when Fergus and Brian split-up.

A great opportunity was lost when Brian Dempsey said that – Fergus was about to mislead alot of Celtic fans and he(BD) could play no part in that.

    I mean – bringing in a trainee manager(TB) too early ?

Fast forward 4 years and Fergus got rid of the 1st Celtic manager to give us the Title in 9 years(Wim) in preference of Jock Brown ?!?!?

No wonder Fergus was booed at the raising of the League Flag and – I must have been the only one who booed him that day or, to put it another way – I’m the only one who disny

have a problem admitting that I booed Fergus THAT day !

You’ve got me away on a roll / tangent now ?

I’m sorry for mumbling on – Off oot.

    God Bless n Take Care

  2. A stor,

Sorry if that is not what you meant. I assumed that it was given the language you were using. Otherwise why use such dramatic language about football? Apologies.

  3. Kojo, thanks for your reply. Why not just persist with Tony Watt. All hail our new striker!

Apology not accepted. ” You assumed” Without reading back – “You assumed”? Well that speaks volumes about you.

You were trying to smear me with ignorance, innuendo of crassness, all to suit your prejudice. Somehow I tend to think it is quite becoming of you.

READING FC are on the verge of completing

two of the biggest transfer coups in the club’s

    history.

Ex-Real Madrid star Royston Drenthe is poised

to pen a three-year deal with the Royals

    having agreed personal terms.

And Reading boss Nigel Adkins could follow

that up with a jaw-dropping swoop for £8

    million-rated Celtic striker Gary Hooper.

The Chronicle understands Hooper met with

    Reading’s representatives earlier this week

with a view to making a big-money switch to

    Madejski Stadium.

The 25-year-old has been seeking a move

south and looks set to link up with Adkins

once again having played underneath him at

    Scunthorpe United.

If the Hooper deal goes through it would

shatter Reading’s £3 million transfer record

for Nantes flop Emerse Fae in 2007.

Celtic have rejected an offer of around £4.5

million from Premier League Hull City, but

Royals owner Anton Zingarevich is ready to

splash the cash and secure the services of the

talented forward who has plundered 63 goals

in 95 league games for the Bhoys.

  11. Awe naw.

  13. No need for that A Stor. I was certainly not trying to smear you. Why would I do that? I was simply trying to ascertain what you meant. I have no prejudice against you. I was also not trying to make innuendo.

I am at a loss, your weak apology aside, how you equated Catholicism with intimidation. I have read back and I don’t link the two; however you did.

Again, my choice of language, or vernacular aside, how did you manage to equate the two?

    I’m at a loss.

  15. A Stor, I did read back and saw your post about not wishing to discriminate towards groups of people. I agreed with it.

Kev Jungle, can I borrow your tin hat please?

  16. John o Neil

Yes what I say takes a very big leap of faith granted and is a very slim possibility actually happen. Yes I accept that but nonsense it is not, far fetched maybe.

I have been many places in Scotland with a Celtic top, north south east and west. I have been intimidated physically and verbally and it is in a smaller percentage particularly physically. Without doubt tho wherever I have worn it I have felt the venom whether it was shown outwardly or not.

This is a pointless argument full of ifs and buts. But we should be aware of where things can go. History continues to repeat itself.

Let’s close this debate and enjoy the stories from the golf quick news. Hail hail my friend.

  17. A stor. I repeat that I was trying to ascertain who it was who you said was being intimidated. Your language was so emotive that I thought you must be talking about a higher level of prejudice than ‘football prejudice’. This site is full of bombast about persecution and impending carnage towards Celtic supporters. I in no way was suggesting anything untoward about your character or opinions. I was just trying to understand your posts.

  18. A Stor Mo Chroi on

By the way John O Neil, I have no problem if you have any, or many, prejudices against me, I’m long in the tooth and I can handle it; but believe me sincerely, I would think you slime if you had any, or many, prejudices against any persuasion or religion or none that meant no harm to others.

Have to agree about Hooper, having seen both Chalmers and Lennox many times.

Stevie Chalmers was a more consistent player, a 90 minute man.

Bobby Lennox could not only score goals, but he had twice the pace and three times the work rate of Hooper.

Having said all that I wouldn’t want to lose Hooper (at least until another SC or BL comes along!)

    John O Neil:

If you were a Celtic Supporter, or fan, you would know what it is to be bombasted, to be ridiculed, to be labelled paranoid. You know how that feels John O Neil , don’t you/

And if you did you would never ask another what it meant either.

Somehow John O Neil I find you false.

  21. WeefratheTim on

Jock Brown was General Manager who was responsible for non-playing staff, but was instrumental in introducing Wim Jansen to Celtic. These two never got on, causing Jansen to resign after a, supremely successful season when we stopped THEMS winning 10 in a row. I still never liked the guy.

I did I said it was precise that two disabled guys bought into Rangers wanting to be loved and is this psychological condition that huns have to love a wheelchair ChairmEn as in the stroming the cat Nike Myres Dr. Evil stroking the cat in complete control of world dominance and hes on the daft wee huns side and they believe it. Easy money for a crook and your going to get love you feel you dont normally get because of your disability. Statistically I am on very good grounds. Medically its more like over use of LSD.

Anyway you have yet to say anything today or ever as usual.

I like your moronic three monkeys act..always.

Reading that is and the ripples you cause ….look you and me have been shooting the yarn for how long now ?

It MUST be said that Brown got the GM position over Hugh Dallas who was also in the running. FFS you could not make this up. You young guys have a lot to read up on :)))

  26. hooper’s done a good job since joining celtic and scored lots of goals, however, if celtic can get anything north of 5 million we should be moving him on. he does not want to sign a new contract, he does not want to play for us.

that type of money would allow celtic to buy a couple of players that want to pull on the hoops.

  27. WeefratheTim on

I must have to clarify: The guy I never liked was Brown. I just loved Wim Jansen.

    enjoy yer grub

But for me watching TB team was some of the best football I have seen from the tic (the Celtic way ) we only won one cup but by God you could not wait to leave the boozer to watch Tommy’s team play FOOTBALL and to this day I am convinced Tommy was cheated by the goat worriers and their pals in black .

I do not know the story behind the Wim situation ,so it would be wrong for me to comment .

He did indeed get rid of Farry and yet here we are years later with CO pulling the same stunts ,in fact worse yet still being in office .

I do agree that he cut the top of the tree but the rotten roots were left to regrow but IMO that was not entirely his fault .The fact that the top man in the SFA could delay a member club registration for 5 crucial games 2 of which were against Ragers (now deceased ) should have blown the whole of Scottish football wide open the fact that it was one days news and the next days chip wrapper tells us all what wee Fergus was really up against in this corrupt country .

I would list the things wee Fergus did right but I too don’t have the time ,I’m a few beers down and still thirsty but what about building the new Celtic park with a 60,000 capacity .10,000 more than Minty could squeeze into the bigot dome ,did that lead to Minties fatal decision to go down the tax evasion route just to keep up .

That alone makes me love the wee man .

I hope when Fergus eventually gets invited to unfurl another league title flag that you will be in attendance to cheer him with all the gusty you can manage .

    HH

  29. I think the majority of the support felt Fergus was The Man at the time and probably did little wrong but Brown really was a strange choice for any position at CP.
