Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

  5. Aw Knaw Annoni,

First of all, your morning post about the disabled investor in Sevco was despicable.

To answer your question, it is excruciating to read some of the nonsense on this site which portrays us as weak victims being bullied by masons and the rest of Scotland. Celtic are prospering. Celtic’s core support has reached just about every level of society. We have had establishment figures like John Reid on our board. This evil, masonic conspiracy is so powerful that it could not prevent the death of the huns – that suggests that either they are not powerful or they are actually useless or that they never cared for the huns.

I agree with your post earlier. We have put up with inequality in a variety of arena’s for far too long (social, sport, work etc etc). It is getting better but not quick enough.

However without a dedicated long term strategy, with intelligent forward thinking people strategising we will get nowhere.

If we don’t think before we act it will turn into a physical fight. One we can never win and one which will turn us into them.

Most people in Scotland don’t care a jot about religion. Correct.

It takes a small number to agitate the majority and there is a groundswell of negative opinion. It’s already happening. I don’t believe every on at ibrox that sings the songs behaves like that outside ibrox, this also is a fact.

Am not sure of the experiments name but here is roughly how it went. Volunteers were asked to push a button that would send a small electrical charge to another chap in a chair. The wires weren’t connected and the chap in the chair was in no danger. The voltage was slowly increased until it was apparent that the chap in the chair was in serious pain. Most people continued to press the button knowing they were hurting the other chap.

The point of the experiment was to see how many people would refuse to press the button.

The result was not many people refused to press the button. Everyone knew it was wrong but did it anyway.

Social dynamics being as they are it does not require many people to care about religion for it to ramp up.

They just need the right people in the right place saying the right things.
