Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

  1. Wouldn’t it be just great if Kieron Prior were in to buying up the deady bears’ shares and turned them either into dust or a proper team. The hordes must be sick to their stomachs at the prospect of someone of his background buying them. Gawn yersel, Kieron. See Salford….almost as good as Parkhead (and I’ve lived in both).

Attack is all well and good, but If any snake is intent on wrapping itself around the midrif of any of the CQN Brigade it’ll need to be the equivalent size of a fully formed adult boa constrictor.

Too few songs and too much self indulgent faffing about.

Naw, but was seriously considering taking it home as a pet, then thought better of it.

I think I’m pretty lucky to have seen one in the wild, unmistakable diamond pattern along its back, really really impressed with probably one of the mose beautiful animals I’ve ever seen, and geme as **** to boot.

So we’ll need to wait for official confirmation from his granny then, rumours like this eh who need them

We are surrounded by wonder and yet forget to wonder, and it takes something unexpected like that to see things as they are.

    petec,

Snakes are very common in Scotland, especially the poisonous ones,

Seen a young adder a few years ago, was very impressed with its attack display,

Couldn’t have been more than 6″ yet. Up like a cobra ready to take on any giant who wanted to come ahead.

I know you like to box, n box clever also. The Almighty is definitely looking after all of us, we were getting cheated and Paul67 ramped up the Charity drives.

BOBBY will tell you I am the most paranoid android ever. ;))

I hope Paul ramps up the Charity further.

Celtic can really re-energise Scottish Football, initially by cold hard cash.

Big means nothing IMO, I hope Celtic are holding aloft the Big Ears again very soon with minimal outlay and from Scotland.

  8. Lionsroar67, Celtic First,

Football is a game of emotions and if you are not emotionally involved then you just don’t ” get it “.

Those same emotions fluctuate between pragmatism, logic and a deep sense of pride and injustice.

None of us likes to ” eat it” and be taken for mugs, so, we react badly when we see what passes for governance in the game.

However, personally, I don’t want emotion to be the basis of Celtic’s policies.

I want clear headed thinking to guide our club’s path.

It is in our supports pysche to be mercurial…….it’s an Irish thing, as Maley once said ; but the PLC has to be hard headed.

  9. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

IMO the big ticket strikers we have signed haven’t worked any more than the likes of Murphy or Bangura

How many titles did MAF,Keane or Bellamy win?

Nothing wrong with our buy em low, sell em high attitude being applied to the strikers as well as elsewhere.

The strategy is the right one,but the players have been wrong in general

    It happens

We have got it right in the past,we will do so again.

The Ogilvie situation is puzzling. I thought that by now there would be enough on him to make his position untenable.

But then again, after so many years in the game he might have more than enough on most clubs to keep him safe.

A bit like G Edgar Hoover without the dress.

  12. Auldheid,

During my days as a poacher is seen many things that would make your jaw drop in awe, to see nature at its best you need to be up with the poacher, first light and the last hour of sun, Scotland is teeming with wild life.

Even saw one of them mysterious big cats up in Tain, never realised it was a big cat till I got to the place it was standing when I spotted it and realised the grass was up over my waste.

Sent a bit of a shiver down my spine I can tell you, sharp exit stage left for me it was.

Over 3 years ago i really despaired, it seemed Rankers men at the SFA had a control on Scottish football which was unbreakable

SFA with a cast list with the likes of Peat, Smith, Ogilvie, Dallas, Broadfoot and Bryson adding to the despair was self confessed Rankers men Ballantyne and Longmuir running the SFL, agent orange had taken over

I decided if thats who the clubs in Scotland want running the game, then its only Celtic for me, no away grounds or hampdump will see my hard earned

We can all see what has happened during the last 3 years, with today being happy liquidation day, Dallas, Peat and Smith all gone, SFL, Ballantyne and Longmuir broken this week as the SPL swallowed up the SFL

Change may be slow, most importantly it is happening

  20. Auldheid

I have followed your posts on the 2011 UEFA licence.

What do you think the outcome will be? Specifically, do you think there is a real possibility of the SFA conceding that its award of a licence to Rangers was incorrect and that this could open up the possibility of a claim for compensation?

  21. Auldheid,

You have no bigger appreciation than me. God warns us to not even trust ourselves. I have told Aidan a long time ago that God is his real Father. It was certainly not conventional and MUST have been strange hearing it at that age, as ever I said it on CQN. eminem.csc
