Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

Surely they would aknowledge that they don’t qualify for round 1 because they are members of the SFL, but they do fall into round 2’s category because they are neither current SPL members nor a club which plays in Div 1 or 2 of the SFL, so therefore there is no need to jump to the rules for avoiding round 3.

If I’m reading it right and I was one of them, that’s how I’d get around that arguement.

  5. Hope to be proved wrong, but it is a tall order to expect Balde to hit the ground running and start banging in goals like Hooper and Stokes. Gary has an average strike rate of 28 goals over the past three seasons since he joined and I don’t think we can afford to let a guy like that depart unless we get bloody good money for him.

MICHAEL Carroll, the man who spent the entirety of his £10 million lottery jackpot in ten years, has taken a job at the Walkers shortbread factory in Elgin.

Carroll, who won a £9,736,131 National Lottery jackpot in 2002, has taken up the job at the biscuit factory this week according to the Daily Record. Carroll was left with just 70p to his name at the end of his spending spree last year.

Carroll, 30, bought a plush mansion in Norfolk with his winnings and reportedly held regular stock car races on the grounds. He also invested £1 million in Rangers Football Club, and gave away almost a third of his jackpot to his friends and family. He estimates that he spent £12,000 a week on illegal drugs at the height of his excesses, and took over 100 trips to Spain in the decade.

He had the phrase ‘King of Chavs’ painted on the side of his van, which he owned along with cars worth £500,000. In 2006 he was jailed for nine months after weilding a baseball bat at a Christian rock concert.

A neighbour living near Carroll’s home close to the Walkers factory told the Record: “He’s not been anti-social since he’s been here, he’s just got his head down and got on with the job.

I am well past the stage of trying to read about religion.

I tried that for about 40 years.

    Just one thing….

A couple of times you have advised me about how I should act towards people I hate.

The thing is that there is not even ONE person on Earth that I HATE.

I hate some of the things some people SAY, & some of the things they DO.

I will always challenge those things, but it won’t make me HATE the person involved.

    Good Luck.

Off to walk a mile or two.

The little problem Sevco had with the Scottish Cup was last season.

Because it was their first season and they were a plucky SFL Division 3 outfit, they started in round three.

Of course, if Sevco were a club that had competed in the SPL in the previous season, they would not have had to play in round three.

The Priest was slaughtered because he had the strength of his convictions and refused to be silenced. You don’t have to be a Christian to have strength in your convictions, but my point, above all else is – he, along with all the thousands of others, chose to die rather than be cast second class or silenced.

I’ll post this again. The man who tried to wipe the Catholics of Mexico out forever was a mason. He did so with a degree of American help with Oil and Dollars, and the oppression of a faith they feared, being the motivation.

Watch the movie if you can, better still… read the books, you can buy them for a few dollars, then tell me there are no parallels between Mexico then… and Scotland now.

My earlier post again. (apologies to those following the golf)

If you can’t stand up for what you believe in, for what your mouth boasts that your heart most desires… then who, or what, are you?

Maybe it would’ve been better if these folks had just renounced their faiths; their values, their dreams, but then again, they chose not and they paid with all that they had… they paid in blood, their blood, rather than be silenced.

if CW used ibrox as a security for his 20 million quid loan, it belongs to him

To borrow a great phrase from the dear and much-missed SFTB, “if you ignore all the inconvenient bits”, Sevco are Rangers and going into administration and then liquidation meant nothing and made no difference whatsoever and all is spectacularly well at Ibrox.

    A truly remarkable article.

Its a pity it has more than 100 words contained within it , ruling it out being read by the vast majority of CQNers never mind punters. Which is a shame as this needs HEAVILY publicised.

I also think Its important for all of us to publicise the roles played in this by Manchester Utd and AC Milan. And Cardihun and Sally naturally.

If it was publicised they would have to deny or plead ignorance of their roles in a scam that stole from charity.

The carefree ungoverned light fingered way of life is why Sevco is being saved.

I would also target huns WHO pretend to be decent or think they are.

You cant have your greggs pie and eat it.

Where is this financial help coming from??

Everyone who has been involved so far has been a spiv. There whole history for the last 30 yrs has involved spivs taking from them . According to their last accounts there are losing £1m per month. They cant pay for Ibrox and Murray Park and the Admin associated with a large support without SPL and European money. They are light years away from competing in the group stages of Europe.

There are no investors out there willing to lose millions in the hope of one day getting it back. Their history has shown that!!
