I don’t subscribe to the ‘Would rather face them with Messi’ world view. I’ve seen Lionel Messi a couple of times, it’s a bit like standing atop the Eiffel Tower, a breath-taking experience, but I don’t need to visit Paris every month to reinforce the view. Tomorrow will be an almighty challenge against one of the sport’s all-time great teams. Having pushed Barcelona to their absolute limits twice last season, we have no right to expect a second consecutive New Firm victory, but this is a home game at Celtic Park, we hope for a win.
The omission of Joe Ledley is a worry. Celtic need mobility and positional awareness in all positions tomorrow, Joe brings both elements to the party, how Neil Lennon compensates for his enforced absence in central midfield will be a key decision.
I also don’t subscribe to the view that, unlike a year ago, Barca will know what to expect this time. Celtic’s 2-1 victory last season came after they took Barca to added time at the Camp Nou before Barca got their winner. Barcelona knew exactly what to expect, they just didn’t know what to do about it. I see no reason why they will be any better tutored this time. Unless they’ve figured out a way of making wee guys jump higher than big guys.
We are fast, we’re tall, we defend when necessary and we run all game. Unless Barca decide to play for a point and defend deep, which they won’t, they will play exactly as they did last season.
On seeing an X Factor item on the news I complained, “That’s not news”, but I was challenged, “If that’s not news, what makes football news?” Sporting and entertainment events are news if those who produce the news determine it to be so, which places considerable authority on news editors.
Charlotte Fakes revelations have shown us how news professionals, keen to distract attention from a disaster zone of a club, tried to create negative ‘news’ stories concerning Celtic.
Three years ago the Green Brigade displayed a banner at Celtic Park which went largely uncommented upon for several days. Four days after the event, the banner became a nationwide news story, TV news reported it and it made a Radio 5 Live morning discussion programme.
The delay in the item becoming ‘news’ was the most important part of the story. It wasn’t news until the news editors had been convinced otherwise. The damage to Celtic’s reputation was considerable.
Today news editors who ran that story three years ago have an interesting dilemma. Do they run a story about an alarming message being displayed at a football ground, or without being lobbied, is that not a story?
Celtic don’t spend money trying to get negative stories about other clubs in the newspapers, but this is surely not exclusively the way the ‘news’ industry works.
We shouldn’t have to wait on a whistle-blower to shine a light on what happened three years ago, journalists know when they have been lobbied, and that’s the real story, which is not dependent on unfathomable leaks.

Good evening friends.
The only downside from the recent fine weather is the realisation that my supposed final cut of the grass a fortnight ago was in fact the penultimate one (or potentially even the anti-penultimate one…).
So it’s aff oot for me…(till later)

Daily Record columnist Tam Cowan has
apologised unreservedly for the offence
caused by a weekend column in which he
said Fir Park stadium should have been
“torched” for hosting women’s football.
Cowan was suspended from his co-presenting
role on BBC Scotland’s Off The Ball following
Saturday’s column , which prompted a stream
of angry emails and comments on social
media.
The comedian responded on Monday with a
column admitting he’d scored an own goal
and said he would make a donation to
women’s football.
“In 15 years as a Daily Record columnist it
has never been my objective to deliberately
upset readers – that’s a totally pointless
exercise – and I’ve only tried to have a laugh,
a joke and a carry-on,” he wrote.
“I’ve never expected anyone to take my
column too seriously (try elsewhere in the
paper for that sort of stuff) and I suppose my
patter’s a bit like a bride on her wedding day
– something old, something new, something
borrowed and, yes, something blue.”
Cowan said he was “annoyed” at the Twitter
outcry following his column, in which he
described women’s football as a “turgid
spectacle” and joked about female footballers
being men.
He added that he was hurt by “misogynist
nonsense” accusations, adding: “As for the
‘sexism’ stuff, the first thing I did when I
finally sat behind the wheel – at the grand
old age of 43 – was turn the old women
drivers’ jokes on their head and start taking
the mickey out of myself.
“By the way girls, my wife says she has never
met a sexist misogynist who’s as good with
a Dettol Wipe in the kitchen”.
Cowan said he’d tried to respond to every
email complaint but said some of the abuse
he received was “a wee bit scary”.
The columnist penned the article following
the Scotland women’s team’s 7-0 victory
over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
But I want to talk abt Big Sammi’s H T Wink Wink!!!

Soldiers accused of sectarian singing at Ibrox has been reported in the Scotsman today
Born 67
gherrybhoy57
this will sound really daft if your not…BUT are you big JJs mate?
The Scotsman now reporting the bigotfest.
THE Army has launched an investigation
into allegations that members of the Armed
Forces were involved in sectarian singing
at a Rangers match at the weekend.
The scenes at the Ibrox club’s home
game against Stenhousemuir have been
the subject of controversy on social
networking sites, amid claims personnel
were involved in sectarian behaviour.
Around 400 members of the Royal Navy,
Royal Marines, Army, and Royal Air
Force were in attendance at the game,
an occasion set up by the club to
celebrate the country’s Armed Forces.
However, concern has been raised
following footage which has circulated
on YouTube, prompting allegations that
some of those representing the services
were party to sectarian chanting.
The Army confirmed today that it was
aware of a number of complaints, and
had launched a probe into the issue.
In a statement, it said: “We are aware of
a number of complaints of against
members of the Armed Forces at the
Armed Forces Day match at Ibrox
stadium at the weekend.
“The Army and Police Scotland, assisted
by Rangers football club, are
investigating these complaints.
Sectarianism is a breach of the Army’s
strict values and standards. If any
personnel are found to have fallen short
of these values and standards they will
be dealt with by administrative or
disciplinary action by the chain of
command and, if necessary, by the
police.”
Chief Superintendent Andy Bates of
Police Scotland also confirmed the force
had been made aware of the allegations,
and was investigating.
He said: “We are aware of concerns
raised regarding the conduct of a
number of people attending the Rangers
v Stenhousemuir game at Ibrox on
Saturday. These concerns are being
investigated.”
Rangers said it too was aware of
complaints made about the half-time
event, but could not comment further on
the allegations given the police
investigation.
However, the club pointed out that the
day was designed to “honour” members
of the Armed Forces.
In a statement, it said: “Rangers Football
Club and the Rangers Charity
Foundation were proud to welcome over
400 personnel from the Armed Forces to
Ibrox stadium on Saturday.
“The club has always been fully
committed to honouring those who
sacrifice so much for their country and
we were delighted to invite members of
the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army
and Royal Air Force to the match. The
event was organised in conjunction with
senior personnel from each branch of
the Armed Forces who were also
represented in the Directors Box.
“The club are aware of complaints
regarding the conduct of Armed Forces
personnel on the pitch at half time and
understand that Police Scotland are
investigating the circumstances
therefore it would be inappropriate to
comment further at this stage.”
Thanks again for your help grannymacsboy.
Have Stuart and Zurawaski’s Barber flounced.
I really feel the Huns have messed up big time with their Army P.R. Stunt. If they had agents agitating to stir up trouble about the Green Brigade, then we should agitate to keep this issue in the headlines. Squaddies holding up a scarf about “Keeping Ulster Protestant” is a disgrace. Surely this is something that should concern Sinn Fein politicians in the 6 Counties. McGuinness should be raising this issue with the MOD.
I doubt if Delahun will on the search for Celtic fans to call in tonight.

Surprised no one from Poland has signed as the freemasons were supposedly outlawed there?

After Black Sunday CQN was a bolt hole – a place of refuge – for hunners and hunners of devastated Celtic fans – me included. I remember at the time (the late) Jade Goody was in the big brother house or one of these silly reality shows, every time I had a quick peek she was shouting ‘itz all ova’ at someone or other so I used the blog name itzallovabhoy for a while, had to change it eventually when the hun allegations began to pile up…
I’m pretty sure BFDJ described the soldiers joining with the fans in doing the bouncy was .. “wonderful”

…as soon as “The St Mirren Fan” wipes off his cammo and cleans his strides I’m sure he’ll be right on the case……………..
Isn’t it amazing that Police Scotland, the MOD and Sevco are all now aware of the COMPLAINTS about the conduct of a NUMBER of fans and military personnel? Weren’t they aware of it going on at the time or were they all in the queue at Gregg’s with fat boy? Shame on all of them!

I was in Liberia an the kids wi guns were a lot younger……
Really scary!!
This game is coming up fast.
I think it`s disappointing that Joe Ledley won`t be available tomorrow. He was particularly effective against Barcelona last year. Charlie will put in a good shift but he doesn`t really have the `engine` to be a midfielder.
Assuming that Celtic can defend well it may be another mini war of attrition and hopefully the Bhoys will get some of the breaks.
there is a video of one fully uniformed Royal Navy officer, waving the Ulster flag in front of the rangers fans.
what looks like another officer, tells him to get back behind the adverts, he refuses, throws the flag into the crowd, then has an argument with the other officer.
there is no dignity, only bigotry.

What a nauseatingly ironic sight to behold: UK military personnel – funded by the earnings of every taxpaying citizen (of every creed and colour) – indulging in an orgy of sectarian hatred at the home of a new club that replaced the one that drowned in a sea of tax debt.
A very bitter irony indeed.
