BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

Thanks for the observations ‘re City Ground in 1983.

I was watching Cliftonville first half from Windsor Park.

Also had a few scary experiences leaving that ground in the late 70’s early 80’s

  2. lets all do the huddle on

    What the?

“Danny Mullen is booked for trampling on the penalty spot.”

to be fair he had no reason at all to walk to the penalty spot at that moment

so he got booked for acting a fud which ive always said should be officially put into the rules

The bigger “What the?” is why Jack wasn’t carded or even spoken to for the two handed shove in his chest straight after it.

  4. The weakness of that penalty award was only outscored by the inevitability of the Dundee players resolution and hun players entitlement of the outcome.

Oh and the speed of the whistle….

I was at both games. I remember how tight it was in the Jungle that night but it was nothing compared to the crush in the game at Nottingham which I also got caught up in. Terrifying.

The state they just mentioned was incredible. Leicester concede from one in 15 corners, Arsenal have faced 115 corners and not conceded once.

  7. Plenty of free pints down the ludge for bruv mcclean tonight .

even with his assistance , huns still struggling to break down a piss poor dundee

Cant remember Murdo’s goal at all.but remember Davenport and Birtles running our CB’s ragged

  9. Arsenal score with a VAR awarded penalty for hand ball – took 4 mins from the incident to the award. Be interesting on how much additional time is added

Those were tough ties against a solid English side at a time when English Champions had one hand on Luggy.

So many times Clough done that plenty in Europe,a first leg at home, then as confidence rose in his opponents(i think it did a wee bit in us maybe) played more aggressively,as you imply, their front 2,turned us and the wee winger meant no more Europe for the woman.:-)

    Hope your good mate,🤣👍

I see Gallows & burning fenians still in the repitoire of the reptiles.

Sadly, Celtic supporters regularly sing about burning Rangers and the Jambos.

  12. Watching the Arsenal game, commentator mentioned that they are going to refurbish the Emirates in the summer.

Puts some perspective on what needs done in the Main Stand

  13. At the end of the 1990–91 season, the club introduced a bond scheme which offered supporters the right to purchase a season ticket at its renovated North Bank stand of Highbury. The board felt this was the only viable option after considering other proposals; they did not want to compromise on traditions nor curb manager George Graham’s transfer dealings At a price of between £1,000 to £1,500, the 150-year bond was criticised by supporters, who argued it potentially blocked the participation of those less well-off from supporting Arsenal. A campaign directed by the Independent Arsenal Supporters’ Association brought relative success as only a third of all bonds were sold.
