BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

  1. Motherwell have no one to blame but themselves. Both tackles were agricultural, first one put Doig out of the game, and the second, which was worse, could have really hurt the Hibs player.

Kenny Miller, just down from orbit, commentating on ESPN+.

  2. What a horrible character the chap Porteous of Hibs is. I have just watched his antics pre and post the red card decision in the first minute of the game with Motherwell. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the tackle and the decision by Collum his behaviour is a disgrace.

  3. Previously I’d have been pleased for Hibs, but not after that cynical performance against Celtic.

  4. Happy Birthday John Clark.

A truly fantastic servant as a player and staff member

    God bless John.Thank you.

If we had been put out of the the third( last ) level Euro competition by Bodo/Glimt whilst NFL was our manager the fake rebels would still be in the car park making an erse ae thursells, then fold like deckchairs and finance the pro oldfirm PLC board circa £666 per heid.

Lucky we’ve got cuddly Ange in in place ae the useless NFL eh.

Thanks for the note last night to say the latter three cup games are on ESPN+

Had a quiet Sunday morning planned, so nice to get some Scottish fitba with my coffee.

Was already planning a 3/4 work day tomorrow.

AT- the Forest winger,Wigley ran us ragged that night

    ……….

Steve Wigley a real speed merchant. We couldn’t cope with his pace.

I noticed a very strange phenomenon watching that Celtic v Forest clip. A Celtic player took a corner from the right and another Celtic player headed the cross straight into the goal. Must’ve been great in those days.

Steve Hodge in the midfield didn’t like the combative approach of wee Murdo who scored our only goal.

Quite a few Forest fans in the main stand.

Very much like Davie Dodds. Except we couldn’t cope with his face.

  14. Watching West Ham vs Villa. Villa’s Chambers goes down injured for extended time. Beale and one other coaching team member go into lengthy discussion ( presumably on substitution, formation and change of tactics ). Gerrard adds a word now and then, but is completely ignored by the other two, with no eye contact.

You are welcome! If you have it, West Ham – Villa and Arsenal – Leicester are on Telemundo.

I lived/worked in London and took a very posh stockbroker work colleague to the first leg in Nottingham after she harangued me for days to take her – so to speak.

I was worried she’d hate it. She absolutely loved it. Thought the Celtic supporters were fantastic and the atmosphere out of this world.

Missed the second leg due to work commitments.

  17. Declan Rice is a great player. His opting for Englandshire is a major loss for the Irish.

  18. When is the draw for the semi finals?

Would like to get them I think. 🤔

Clocks went forward here, amazing how much it confuses me only being 4 hours behind.

  19. Chelsea being heavily hamstrung by sponsors, government, etc, because its owner, now former, was friends with the mad Putin.Meanwhile as Saudi Arabia executes 81 prisoners,in one day,yes one day,Newcastle carry on regardless. You can tell the executions were deserved by the manner in which Saudi justice was handed out to a Mr Kashoggi.

I have both games on Hulu Live with English commentary.

Sorry to bore non-US base Tims but I took out Hulu live for the Euros last summer on a free trial.

Was so pleased with it I signed up – I now have better access to Sports and News than ever before for less cost. Worth a look.

  22. 2nd game against Forest was the most crowded Jungle experience I ever witnessed.

The Jungle was packed 15 minutes before game , but continued to fill tighter as everyone squeezed and squashed to get in.

We normally worked our way up the 18 yard line at the “Rangers end” but gave up as the crowd was so tightly packed.

Once the game started the movement of the support was like crowd surfing , my feet were often off the ground ,even though I am 6’1″.

During first half my mate asked me for a cigarette because he couldn’t get his hand into his pocket because of the crush…. I had mine in my top pocket of my ‘US Combat’ jacket for that very reason.

I eventually managed to get two cigarettes out, they were squashed flat.

I must admit I was hoping for a goal , but also worried what might happen in the Jungle if we scored.

Was it that fixture he stopped and had a pint in Gallowgate before hand? Sure there was a tale àround that time.

Fell out wi mate on way home as he regaled in ‘a telt ye tones’ bout cloughs prowess away from home.:-)

I was at both games. I remember how tight it was in the Jungle that night but it was nothing compared to the crush in the game at Nottingham which I also got caught up in. Terrifying.

There was a horrendous and very dangerous crush in the Celtic end at the City Ground. Fortunately my guest and I were in the stand but we had a great view. It was very scary.
