BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

Watching the Arsenal game, commentator mentioned that they are going to refurbish the Emirates in the summer.

Puts some perspective on what needs done in the Main Stand

Arsenals refurbishment is mainly repairing the roof and some cosmetic changes to the exterior.

Why would you know I’d be In with a comment?

I have posted about 10 times in about 2/3 months, even though I still lurk.

  15. Celtic40me the commentator may have been wrong, wouldn’t be the first time 😀 However he was talking of a substantial job not just repairs, talked about there still being a transfer budget in case fans were concerned

Will have to look it up now

Thanks for the feedback — I fear you have a lot to learn.

If you worked with stockbrokers then design is not your forte?

Just some ideas to show the scale of the job in hand.

Standard capacity of 67,525 — stealing from another poster no less on this.

Think of a date — the biggest date of the club’s existence — and it will all click.

Numbers of seat rows — all part of the concept design phase.

Gives some idea of scale to the design ideas in play.

Q+D analysis to show that the design idea meets its stated goals.

Or at least it is playing in the same ballpark.

The Old Main Stand plus the corners hold between 12 and 13K with 8,500 in the main stand.

Very rough numbers but they show the floor we need to move from to get to the magic number.

That would be another 7K of seats to get us to where we need to go.

Looking back at the crowds in the late 60’s — FMcC and his 60K dream looked fantastical to many.

We have moved on early 30 years from that and society has changed once more.

Consequently if we can sell out games against StJ and the like then the demand is there.

What supports it is a manager putting his all behind a growth agenda leaving nothing in the boardroom.

We cannot prepare for the future using the PL playbook of the past.

Plus saving £2mill pa on his wages / bonus means we can finance a lot of bonds at 3 or 4%.

If you play good football with exciting players with a fully engaged manager giving it his all — close to where we are today — then they will come. The issue then is making sure we have seats for them when they arrive.

The tourist / overseas fan angle is like nothing compared to LFC.

We are bigger than them or at least we should act like we will be.

Get rid of the 5 stages of the Scottish cringe and we will be half way there.

Fairhill Bhoy. Aye, I miss Garry and our sessions on the Guinness in the Stanley Arms.

  20. Erse and their stadium update.

It might only be 16 years old but the Emirates is 15 years behind New WHL.

Therefore there will be a groundswell from the Erse support to improve things.

More and better food / find space for drink / better concourse areas.

There has been a lot of progress in the last 15 years so stuff needs to be done.

Living off FMcC and his late 80’s stadium design is just so Old Board.

If we don’t move forward we will then go back.

Back to the days when they counted the takings above a chip shop?

If you worked with stockbrokers then design is not your forte?

I was a Computer Programmer in the London Stock Exchange late 70s early 80s when Cobol was the only commercial language. That’s how I made friends with Stockbrokers & Stock Jobbers.

In computing you get to work alongside all manner of people and professions. Yes, even designers.

In fact by the end of the century I was a Web Designer.

    See what I did there?

You got me there — never thought that you were a code monkey who moved down in the world to become a felt tip fairy.

The stuff you learn on CQN.

Just remember that further up the food chain people are doing the concept design and then the detailed design before they ask you to code it in 1’s and zeroes …

Cobol was for wimps — was machine code a step too far — LDA this / LDA that..

I have worked in IT — 18 months as a systems analyst in Big Auto Purchasing — IMS/DB2.

    Real high end stuff:

Using a ruler on a 80×40 green screen to see if you could add in bigger descriptions.

Trying to stop money walking out the door due to never ending purchase orders for prototype tyres.

    Those were the days.

I got out — to work on engineering workstations — just at the right time as they proceeded to spaff $800mill plus on an all singing / all dancing replacement.

Unfortunately it sang like a 2015 Marti Pellow and danced like him too — the second worst dancer in Glasgow in 1986 — not good.

Now back to the detail — any thoughts on going to a 15 row cantilever seating section for a new and improved free pie section — 800mm seat pitch with two 145mm steps for each row?

Vertical movement could be an issue but the free pie seats have a history of just rustling their sweetie papers when something interesting happens so we might be OK — any thoughts?
