BBC need to fortify or shut the doors

It doesn’t really matter to me how other people write their own history.  If Queens Park claim to be the same Club as the Queen of Clubs, they are welcome to, as long as they respectfully allow me to express scepticism.  Fortunately, Queens Park’s business model is not dependent on making such an outlandish claim.

A whole lot of nonsense has been written on the subject of a recently liquidated football club, “it was the holding company that was liquidated”, when it wasn’t actually a holding company, and then we have claims about advice from a “panel of the London Stock Exchange”, which was quickly withdrawn.

We are asked to believe that a football club cannot go out of business.  It’s an interesting thought, not one I subscribe to, but interesting nonetheless.  If you are happy with this belief, fair play to you, it doesn’t matter what anyone else believes.

I’ve met Jim Spence.  He’s a guy who emerged from the Dundee Untied fanzine world and established a reputable career in the game.  His affinity for United has never been hidden, nor should it be.  United, as all clubs, have gone through periods of turmoil but Jim has called things as he has seen them, with his own club, and with others.

This week Jim made a comment about a football club which went into liquidation.  It was more tempered than comments made by a former manager and director of the liquidated club, by the chief executive of its successor club, by all the contemporary newspaper coverage, and by the successor club’s current head of PR.  Despite this, Jim has been on the receiving end of a sustained campaign by the thought police.

Jim may privately think what those at the successor club once said, but if he also wants to express those thoughts, the consequences can be acute.

He’s not alone.  I know others in the media who have told me straight that they are not prepared to touch the Newco/Sameco subject, the resultant hassle is not what they got into journalism for.

Charlotte Fakes has given us a glimpse into how powerful people can manipulate and control Scotland.  It has given reason to pause ahead of next year’s big decisions.  The BBC and only the BBC are strong enough to stand up against bullying, you can forget the commercial media for one simple reason, this subject is the equivalent of commercial self-harm.

It wouldn’t seem like the weekend without Rangers International writing about going legal on someone or other, although I suspect they’ll be content having played to the gallery with this one and not trouble the BBC, but questions remain for the BBC, no matter what happens next.

I consume enormous volumes of BBC output every month, it is my first port of call for news, and often my last.  It is one of the best aspects of British life, but if it can be intimidated like the commercial media, there is no point in it existing in the first place.

Fortify your journalists or shut the doors.

    Simple questions for Sevconians in denail:

    What does Liquidation mean?

    Tell me which documents say that ‘Rangers’ were ‘relegated’? (There are none because they weren’t)

    In the absence of such documentary evidence please explain how Rangers International ended up in the Third Division?

    Case closed your honour……

    Cheers for that…it will be my answer to thems from now on. Short..sweet..and to the core.

    I know. Thanks! Just used your post as an opportunity to gather names to help collect signatures at the Hearts game.

  5. This whole sevco/sfa story is complex, emotive, devoid of key facts and filled with misinformation. Perhaps in time, it will clarify itself.

    In the meantime…..

    Celtic’s FOOTBALL focus is clear:

    Win 5 leagues in which we have little competition.

    Qualify for 5 CL Group Stages.

    At the end of that 5 years (even taking into account Paul’s view that some CL money needs to be applied against annual operating losses……we should be 50 million pounds ahead of where we were when rangers departed this world.

    That could take the shape of:

    Money in the bank;

    Players on the park;

    Better commercial investments;

    An even better scouting system;

    And – maybe even a slightly adjusted risk management model;

    And….possibly a combination of all of the above.

    All of this will put us significantly on the front foot for years to come.

    All we need to do is win those leagues. Shouldn’t be a problem.

    Qualify for the Group Stages. This, we seem to be making difficult for ourselves. Not to succeed in this part would be, in my view, bordering on the criminal. Bullet dodged this year. Let’s have no repeat. (Hint: sign of Fraser Forster’s replacement in January).

    And what can we do in all of this? Support the team on the park.

    And, while I am here….some indirect opportunities:

    Lenny gets to cut his managerial teeth.

    We have the chance (obligation?) to use some of our domestic games to really push our young players. This, we have not done. Dylan could have got 10 more games last season, and we’d still have won the games and won the league. Difference is, we’d know he was a first team player, or known that he wasn’t. Instead, he is in limbo and has perhaps crossed the line into ‘not going to make it’.

    So…why am I writing this.

    First, it is raining, and there is nothing much on tv;

    Second…..we may be missing the big point. This is a time of OPPORTUNITY. We can not afford to waste these few years.

    Disagree or ignore as you see fit.

    Ronnie

  6. Condolences to loved ones of Miki67, sad news.

    Hope everyone has a great day out at Celtic Park tomorrow.

  8. When the liquidation process started we we told all sorts of things,none of which materialized.They play in the same strips,at the same ground,are called near as dammit the same name,something we were told was illegal,after ditching debt,are followed by the same scum.The SFA /SPL treated them as the same club,and the majority of the MSM were only too glad to go along with this fantasy.UEFA were kept out of the loop.

    Is it any wonder that the most stupid,gullible,fans ever to walk this earth cling to the fantasy that they are the same club?.

    No one anywhere has done anything to dispel this myth.I include,BDO,The City regulators,MSM,any team in Scotland,including our own.This is the problem.

    I am afraid that Jim Spence and a very few others are only a few voices crying out in the wilderness.Dont include us.We are written off as “Having an agenda”.

    Thank god for “Agendas”.

    I signed up quite a while ago.

    With shares only valued at 62.5 Pence, & with no minimum number of shares required to support the motion, there is no excuse for anybody NOT supporting Canamalar’s efforts.

    Many on this site have demanded clarity & transparency from our football authorities.

    Canamalar is giving them a vehicle which can achieve those ends.

    Let’s hope that enough of us will, even late in the day, give the guy the support he needs.

    Let nobody say later that they would have helped if they could.

    There is still time to act.

    It’s NOW or never.

  10. A Stor Mo Chroi on

    5 – 0 down… well what is taking BDO so long to get the liquidation concluded. After all, it’s almost now a year, bar eight or so weeks, they’ve been on the case. Now that is what is called ‘time added on’.

  11. So what we are left with is Hobson’s choice plus ultra?

    There is no, no thanks?

    Once again Timmy should accept his lot and doff his cap and screw his hopes to the Celtic sticking post?

    They’re coming back, just accept it. Make your peace with it. Get on with it. And rally round the richest club in Scotland otherwise the bogeymen will be back haunting us.

    Doing what they’ve done.

    Cheating.

    And we should just become inured to this? To them?

    The game’s bent and broken, the bosses are phoning it in and the administrators are devoid of moral compunction…

    And they have rubbed the faces of every other supporter in the muck as they stumble from one allowed disaster to another.

    I remember reading a quote from a Rangers supporter after their demise stating they were his team and if the played down the park he’d go and see them.

    I’d rather watch Celtic, or a form of them, down the park that watch them sully their hands and muddy their hearts with that corrupt corpulent corpse. A collective which has of late resorted to the lowest forms of tribalism and tub thumping to maintain a heartbeat in their support.

    The writing was on the wall for me when some of Paul’s articles started mentioning the financial ramifications to Celtic of a dead team not being in their league.

    We will not, if we allow ourselves and our board to tacitly welcome then back into the league and Celtic Park, be supporting Celtic – we’ll be supporting everything that the other team did wrong – we will be validating it.

    And that will be their final victory – that will be their killing joke. And no amount of rakish tifos will shift the feeling of capitulation.

    And I for one will feel nothing but shame for my club.

    Call them out for what they are and be damned.

    U

    We only have to look back 10 days to see that added time can produce some of the greatest moments.

    I have no idea if the timescale on the liquidation of Rangers is different to any other liquidation.

    If it is taking longer it may be down to diligence by BDO – there has been so much corruption at Rangers and they may well be leaving no marble unturned.

    Some people feel they don’t need to as enough other people will. The numbers required in the time required means this is a gamble that they are taking. The other reason other than not supporting the resolution is apathy.

    Some people have expressed they don’t want to give support to Canamalar. This is not about him. If anybody doesn’t wish to give their details to Canamalar. They can send their signed resolution to me instead (Morrisseythe23rd@aol.com).

    weeron,

    Your post has got me thinking.

    If we qualify for the group stages for 5 years in a row will that propel us out of the “Champions route” back into the “League route” making entry much less likely – or does the good old scottish co-efficient ensure we will remain in the “diddy” country route?

    Turkeybhoy;

    I think the SPL/SFA do treat them as a Newco but unfortunately they only do it in a subtle way IE they were (rightly) unseeded in early Cup rounds against SPL sides tMotherwell & ICT in the LC.

    I just wish they would have the conviction to be more explicit about this. It doesn’t help the zombies understand their rightful place in Scottish football.

  29. larrybhoy we have all lost a brother in the passing of miki67 ,he gave me great strength in my darker hour god bless him and may he rest with the angels and for you mick thanks for your words it was an honour R.I.P.
