Beating Newco the only language they understand

203

After humiliation upon humiliation, Newco reduced Celtic’s ticket allocation at Ibrox from 7,000 to 700 tickets.  Prisoners to their own fans, their board took action, knowing Celtic would reciprocate.  Celtic issued a notice at the time saying they would rather not play silly buggers (I think that’s how they put it), but Newco boxed themselves into a corner (a bit like their idea of visiting fans), their allocation for Celtic Park was also reduced.

A new era and a new season, both clubs seemed keen to revert to 7,000 visiting fans but Newco were worried that come 2 January, a winter wave could be in play, reducing or eliminating fans altogether when the teams meet at Celtic Park.  Unable to face their fans having permitted 7,000 Celtic fans at Ibrox in September if the same number of Newco fans were not able to cross the city in January, they capitulated.

The only lesson they actually learn is being well beaten by Celtic, no matter who is watching or refereeing.  Attempting to communicate with them in any other way is pointless, they will learn nothing and I include financial responsibility in that.  Get back to scoring five against them as a matter of course, they understand that message clearly enough.

  1. Huns bleating to the SFA/SPFL about not getting tickets for CP,have just told Ross County, they will now be getting no tickets for Poundland on Saturday…..

BadaBIng has already explained the rationale behind RIFCs decision to limit Celtic supporters to 800 at Ayebrokes, to max out ST money upfront. The Celtic Board decided to do likewise, albeit for different reasons, and in conjunction with GCC and Police Scotland, created a situation at an “Old Firm” match on September 2nd 2018 which put thousands of Celtic supporters at risk behind the North Stand. The Board later commissioned and paid for an “Independent” report, a whitewash by any other name, from consultants Fairhurst, which concluded that there had been a “unique set of circumstances”. A unique set of circumstances created by……..Celtic FC, GCC and Police Scotland. But let not the facts get in the way.

I’m one of those who smile at the ghuys complaining about being held up for 20/30 minutes.

Often left home at 5. 30 am Sat Morning , Drove 3 hours Dublin Airport , hang around for an hour or two, fly to Glasgow, Bus into centre, walk to Hotel, dump Bag, A bit of grub in some fast food outlet, walk to Blane Valley, a few drinks, walk to Celtic Park, watch game, walk back to City Centre, another fish & chips job, a few pints back to Hotel, conk out for a few hours them up & reverse journey, Maybe back in Clonmel around Tea time sometimes a lot later.

Having said all that I do agree something needs to be done to alleviate the congestion,

A Park & Ride seems a good idea but you would need a fair few extra double Deckers available to ferry the crowds & get them back out, After match in particular there could be a couple of thousand heading for bus stop at the same time.

FFS Paul67 -this really is a Lawwell educated opinion

When we played well v Hibs and the Huns got out of jail with a non pen v Aberdeen

the next day Paul67 you had us opening the Champagne

i responded with the only show in town is beating livingston on saturday – nothing else matters

And here we are right back at where we were pre last wednesday

But now we are going to humiliate them to teach them a lesson

What is it with people’s lack of reality

The Huns have lost one league game in 18 months they are 4 points ahead of us we have not beat them for nearly 2 years and we are going to humiliate them

    It beggars belief

My Headline for what it’s worth

    “Don’t let them run away”

We are 4 points behind if we are less than 4 after we play them on 2 Jan and we buy a couple of first team regulars who contribute immediately

    We can win the league

Also for this reason I would play the reserves in the League Cup the Scottish Cup and possibly in EL (the money helps in the EL)

Our only aim is to win the league and win it this year

If the Huns win the league this year and get £50m plus for CL we have a mountain to climb

And they will dominate for 3/4/5 years

The only show in town is to win the league

Today we are 4 point behind

Reality always works better than dreaming

  5. 5 to 3, saturday, an older fella on his bike zoomed pst me in the kerrydale car park, got to the railings and there were 2 bikes chained up, so them cycle lanes are making a difference.

  6. Only the fit can quickly walk from Dalmarnock or Belgrove to Celtic Park. Only the uneducated regularly walk to / from Bridgeton to Celtic Park.

In inclement weather its not ideal. This is the prospect facing cars. Our disabled supporters will suffer and I don’t particularly think a certain MSP’ solution is ideal.

However where there is a will there is a way.

I’m sure if I remember right that during Fergus McCann’s time there was an integrated deal with Strathclyde Transport.

Such initiatives I thought would be right up Dominic Mckay’ s Street

Anyway, how can there not be a fleet of enviromental friendly busses to and from Dalmarnock Station and the city centre?

The COP 26 delegates are being ferried about the city free of charge with mega disruption. We would only require two direct routes with minimal disruption on match days.

    HH.

  7. It is a really beautiful day in glasgow today.

The COP26 has fixed the global warming thing already.

  8. I don’t want the huns anywhere near Parkhead. They continually wreck the place, security issues abound and frankly they are not photogenic.

Evil eyes have no place in Paradise. Indeed.

Train to Bellgrove for 1ish, 4 or 5 pints in the Drover, then up to the game for KO, simples :-)

Excellent post I agree 100%. All the talk, not necessarily from P67, of the huns being rubbish is relative and at the moment we are relatively worse than they are.

The new striker getting a hatrick at the weekend whilst ours missed a penalty put things in perspective.

  11. Timmy 7 Noted.

Absolutely fine for us youthful fit athletes, but for mere mortals ?

Was in the Drover on Saturday. Great old fashioned boozer. We often meet in there after the game, prior to heading further down the Gallowgate for some culture.

They had a great Halloween party on Saturday, an abundance of evil eyes.

They also used to give out plates of soup on cold winters days. A great gesture I hope they will continue with, even if it means we are called souptakers of the first degree.

    HH.

  12. We usually meet in there before the game and head into town afterwards, its a cracking wee pub and at £3.50 for a Guinness whats not to like :-) I saw they were prepping for the party pre match.

They also have regular cash collections for a local food bank, genuinely nice people.

Youthful young athletes!!……………..speak for yourself :-)

Beware though they are big independence supporters so that I’m sure would turn most on here away.

  13. 67 European Cup Winners

Huns certainly not to be under estimated. Last Saturday should keep our feet firmly planted. Over the course of the next two months, should we not get a sustained winning run going then the league very likely will be lost.

I’m not sure where the £50 million for CL is coming from though. The last time we qualified we reached a revenue of £100 million and fell back to £83 million the following season with Europa football.

The idea that CL revenue next season dramatically alters either club’s finances doesn’t quite register with me. The fundamentals remain the same.

CL for them next season is a temporary respite at best.

  14. Celtic Mac- i wonder if Mr Higgins was involved in the shambolic and dangerous crush that day?

  15. i always do Drovers before the game (last pub before the stadium and great staff) and Kitty O’Shea after (sometimes meet a mate in there and taxi rank outside to get to airport).

Drover’s is still 18 minutes fast walk to your seat (according to fitbit). As i always say it is 15 mins when getting another pint, it makes sense that i always miss kick off by about 3-5 mins 😎

  16. Why if something called Rangers get to the CL group stages (not guaranteed by the way) are fantastical sums of money projected as their glittering automatic prize ?

50m pounds seems to be getting quoted, often, an exagerrated figure for sure, and not guaranteed what so ever.

    —————————————–

    Prize money

As of 2021-22, the fixed amount of prize money paid to the clubs is as follows.[85]

    Play-off round: €5,000,000

Base fee for group stage: €15,640,000

    Group match victory: €2,800,000

    Group match draw: €900,000

    Round of 16: €9,600,000

    Quarter-finals: €10,600,000

    Semi-finals: €12,500,000

    Runner-ups: €15,500,000

    Champions: €20,000,000

This means that, at best, a club can earn €85,100,000 of prize money under this structure, not counting shares of the qualifying rounds, play-off round or the market pool.

A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the “market pool”, the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each nation. For the 2014–15 season, Juventus, who were the runners-up, earned nearly €89.1 million in total, of which €30.9 million was prize money, compared with the €61.0 million earned by Barcelona, who won the tournament and were awarded €36.4 million in prize money.

Good point regarding the SPT tie up some years ago

I think it was ‘abandoned’ in favour of other ST “special offers/added value “

It saved me a fortune travelling from G78 to Bellgrove via Queen St.

It must’ve cost Celtic a right few quid.

  18. Anthony Ralston has this afternoon put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep the right back at Celtic until at least the summer of 2025.

  19. TONTINE TIM on 2ND NOVEMBER 2021 4:39 PM

How about big Macaroni Ralston playing a Roy Aitken type midfield role.

Ralston, who is WhoScored?’s best Scottish Premiership player, has – for whatever reason – not been called up by Clarke. Instead, Rangers defender Nathan Patterson and Motherwell man Stephen O’Donnell occupy the right-back slots”

Not too sure how the player feels abut this but from a fan perspective its good news, we already give them too many of our players and they never look after them, often coming back injured. Good news for us.

  21. We are Glasgow Celtic, not Cambuslang or Lanark Celtic. Stupid and a total waste of money,if the club has spare cash why not put it toward players.

With regards hun allocation, we should give them 5000, as we are much much better than that surely.

Must not be tribal and pathetic, toys out the pram stuff. We ARE better than that and them.

If Celtic fans don’t want to be part of the old firm, then why do they support a PLC who reintroduced old firm prices for old firm tickets in 2016?

Was it because principles were sidelined by ticket holders who were played by the PLC in 2016, played into thinking that the PLC were at last on the same page as the ticket holders by the recruitment of Brendan Rodgers?

Don’t these know all, know f all, types of Celtic ticket holding fans, still not realise that Brendan Rodgers was a too good to resist, squirrel, to make you support Brendan’s team and to hell with the price of old firm tickets, for old firm games, as the thrashings v The Magic Hat, Murty, Pedro, Murty again, Stevie G from Lpool under 18’s coach, were well worth the money anyway?

    Really?

Because you who bought those old firm priced tickets in 2016?

Nobody made you buy these old firm priced tickets in 2016, but you did buy them, because you couldn’t GAF about principles, and you were all easily seduced by the PLC’s squirrel, Brendan Rodgers.

Why do do you think the PLC brought Brendan Rodgers into Celtic?

Do you think it was as if all of a sudden the PLC were on the same page as you ticket holders? lol

Do you believe that DD and others decided to pay a former EPL manager £45k per week because Sevco directors were “disrespectful” to their Celtic PLC old firm partners in Ronny’s SCSF defeat to Sevco in May 2016?

Do you ask why the bull sh***er who spread the “disrespectful” Sevco directors story, hasn’t produced a story since 2016 about the “disrespectful” Celtic PLC directors and their sneaky agreement to keep old firm tickets the same price £49 in 2016, as they were £49 in 2012 when Rangers apparently died, and a book was rushed to print on the back of that?

Ticket holders were judged by the PLC in 2016.

The ticket holders were found to be, woefully wanting.

Nothing has changed in that regard, in fact the ticket holders are even more woefully wanting 5 years down the road.

    Who’s fault is that?

  23. SAINT STIVS on 2ND NOVEMBER 2021 4:28 PM

The difference between an average season in the CL and a similar one in the EL, after bonuses and other expenses are deducted will be pretty much what they would lose in an average year

Any profit would come from player trading.

  24. Their business plan seemed to be win the league, get CL revenue, and hope our fans would stop buying season tickets

They’re scrambling now it hasn’t worked

  25. It seemed to be the received wisdom that once they won the league last season they’d benefit from the cl money this, and win this league easily. Win one league, 100m guaranteed.

    Funny how it worked out

  26. Tontine Tim – I like the idea of that. It will take a bit of time. Anthony thoroughly deserves the new contract. The Bhoy is making the most of the opportunity Ange is giving him.
