Belgians premature

1296

The Belgian league put the cat amongst the waffles yesterday by declaring the Jupiler League over and Bruges champions.  They sorted out their TV and other commercial arrangements and can start next season as soon as it is safe to do so.

There are very few calls to cut seasons short.  Tight leagues, such as in Italy and Spain, would forever  have questions hanging over them, while those assured of winning the title, as in Scotland and England, want to do so on the field, not at a league meeting.  Still, it was nice to see panic among the Null and Voiders, who would rather everyone lost than anyone (Celtic) won.

The Belgians have been pragmatic but premature, football is finished for the season, their champions are assured without controversy and they will accommodate those threatened with relegation.  The rest of Europe still clings to the hope that competition can start behind closed doors in the summer.  It will next month before we know if this is possible, there is no reason to make decisions before then.

And to all who have lost a loved one to this crisis.

  5. Unfortunately it seems the constant news of losses within the Celtic and even CQN community will be a feature for the next few weeks.

It’s extremely sad and regretful. I hope we can all take a moment to remember the dead and thank God for our friends and families.

  8. FAO DAVID66…

Cheers again Davie for the help that you and your lovely lady gave me yesterday with Shopping etc.

It was also nice to meet a friendly face during this self isolation.

This is now my 16th Day….It certainly doesnt feel like a Saturday…every day just feels the same.

I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from a Nurse at the Jubilee Hosp in Clydebank…and apparently a Heart Surgeon is due to phone me this Monday morning to give me a Phone Consultation, as like many others… all my hospital appointments for now have been postponed.

Can I also express my sadness and thoughts to ALL who have loved ones, or who know/knew the victims of this Virus who suffered losses and.or who are currently suffering.

Stay safe as you can everyone.

I see they found the body of Billy McNeill’s grandson in Amsterdam, more sad news. God bless them.

  10. I watched the Dundee Utd v Celtic Scottish Cup Semi Final from 1981 last night in the BBC.

I had an idea of the Final score, but I wasnt 100% sure..but I knew that we were beaten in that game cos the Huns beat Utd in the Final..after a replay I think ?

What struck me most of all, was the number of times that normally very talented Celtic players gave the ball away needlessly…whether mis controlling a simple pass…or trying to play long balls that were being mopped up by the Utd defence.

It also appeared that Murdo McLeod was playing Right Back…and had No.2 on his shorts. What a waste as we all remember Murdo in his midfield role…and maybe that was just one reason why we got beat, although Utd also had many fine players in that team also.

  11. Big Jimmy – Yes it was good to meet you in person yesterday and as I said we will be going out for some fresh fruit, bread milk probably Tuesday, so if you need anything, get your list written down and drop me an email.

Would loved to have stopped for a longer natter but obviously with everything going on around us it’s better to try and be safe rather than sorry.

I hope the products I got were ok.

    Hail Hail

  16. Melbourne Mick on

Hello again all you young rebels.

From a rain and wind lashed Melbourne, after 24 degs the last few

days it’s down to 12- 13 the next few.

So now any wee time passing jobs in the garden are ruled out, looks

like the princess will get her room painting done, ach well she’s only

been asking for about two years.

Good news tonight from the media, apparently there is a head lice

scabies etc prescription medicine on the market already approved

for human consumption in Oz which kills the Covid virus.

Further tests are being fast tracked to confirm it as a vaccine for the

    Corona disease.

    Prayers said for that.

  17. I’ve mentioned this before – I think it might be an idea for the Club to focus a significant part of the charitable activities around helping the helpers in our community – the NHS and other care-workers.

This would allow the Club to evidence its values appropriately – and do the right thing.

  18. One positive from this crisis is that my wife and daughter are doing some home baking.

A variety of scones and cakes.

    Ye canny beat them!

She was a very small person….but BIG in Brains !

ye she was tiny …..i remember whenever you got the ball she would scream ‘shoot shoot’. It was a great badge of honour when on a friday we’d be called from class to pick up our strips (kind of hibs type strip if i remember correctly) for the saturday game and bus fare if away.

  26. Philbhoy. All is well buddy thanks. Hope you and yours are well too. This thing is a complete nightmare being mismanaged by the Markets first right wing fuds. Many more, who shouldn’t, will lose their lives because of these incompetent self serving arsehole leaders. Makes me sick!

Not checked in in a while and thought I’d come on here for a wee bit of light relief. Why I was surprised to read of the passing due to this disease, I don’t know, given no one is immune. But I was. Stupid of me, eh?

    God rest their souls.

  27. MWD

Aye, I know what you mean.

    All well here, thanks.

    Take care mate

  29. Thanks Can man.

I hope the Club, does the right thing here – among the many charitable initiatives we’ve been involved in – the plight of the carers in our society ( esp NHS) would seem a worthy, timely focus for Celtica.
