Belgians premature

1296

The Belgian league put the cat amongst the waffles yesterday by declaring the Jupiler League over and Bruges champions.  They sorted out their TV and other commercial arrangements and can start next season as soon as it is safe to do so.

There are very few calls to cut seasons short.  Tight leagues, such as in Italy and Spain, would forever  have questions hanging over them, while those assured of winning the title, as in Scotland and England, want to do so on the field, not at a league meeting.  Still, it was nice to see panic among the Null and Voiders, who would rather everyone lost than anyone (Celtic) won.

The Belgians have been pragmatic but premature, football is finished for the season, their champions are assured without controversy and they will accommodate those threatened with relegation.  The rest of Europe still clings to the hope that competition can start behind closed doors in the summer.  It will next month before we know if this is possible, there is no reason to make decisions before then.

Thank you for an eloquent post, CRC has roped me in as a bag man, again. I am honoured he thinks me worthy and will be honoured to do anything.

I have a signed framed hoops top signed by Dariusz Dziekanowski, which was once owned by our dear friend MURDOCHAULDANDHAY. The top was given to me by MURDOCHAULDANDHAY’s Brother Jim, he thought it may one day help us. In my opinion that day has come.

I have the faith that you will all rise to the challenge.

    Keep the Faith!

    FB,

Sorry the “valley” was just my way of describing where the pitch was. In the middle of the scheme, dressing rooms at top and pitch down the slope. Houses at the far side of the pitch. “Valley” was actually quite a poor description.

Just remember we always had to run the gauntlet back up the slope to the dressing rooms. never fun after a hard 90 mins. :-)

Trump on CNN a minute ago’ we’re getting better…’ an absolute zoomer

    ——–

There are no words to adequately describe how appalling he is.

JUST IN: President Trump says the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending that Americans consider wearing cloth masks to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, along with social distancing and handwashing recommendations.

“This is voluntary. I don’t think I’m going to be doing it,” Trump said.

I can’t get on to the blog as often as I would like at the moment so messages by e-mail etc would be great to myself or crc but we can maybe get someone to make a list of anything put on the blog.

We are at the very early stages of this obviously but hope to get going ASAP

    NORRIEM

Sorry about the late reply Norrie, time difference between

    us makes it awkward.

I mailed the person again who informed me about Peter being

seriously ill, i think he must be a institute secretary or similar

and to send me updates, but no reply yet.

I find it strange the email came from the him and not his family

I also believe Peter is well known to the Celtic hierarchy and has

been in the company of some prominent CQN.rs

    Hope to hear something soon.

Similar efforts here in Ireland, not always Celtic related, though.

Forgive me if this has been commented upon already as I have not had the chance to read back.

Yesterday or the day before saw the passing of the man some knew as Jimmy Gordon, others as James Gordon and possibly more who knew him as Lord Gordon of Strathblane.

His academic and business achievements will no doubt be commented upon elsewhere but I first recall him as the director of the Celtic Story which premiered in the Odeaon Cinema on Renfield Street and then appearing on STV at times and then later as the chairman of the newly created Radio Clyde.

He knew my parents fairly well and in later years they would chat away in the lounges of the North Stand in the immediate post Fergus years.

I was party to some of those conversations although I cannot and would not claim to have known him well personally.

However, three things always struck me about Jimmy Gordon.

The first was that he was a very bright and intelligent man who was always worth listening to. He was easy in conversation, never overbearing or boastful, and always had time to talk and indeed listen.

The second was that he had an absolutely rock solid love of Celtic Football Club and its fans. I have often thought that he was the chairman or director we should have had long before the arrival of Fergus. His enthusiasm for Celtic knew no bounds.

Lastly and most importantly, he was a very very nice man, a decent man who stood for everything that was good and decent in my opinion.

I was speaking to my mother earlier on tonight and that was the first things he said about him – that he was just an exceptionally nice man. There can be no greater compliment.

We are all that bit poorer for his passing.

    A good guy.

Great initiative and I would like to help in some small way…..I have probably too much Celtic stuff gathering dust (my son might dispute this) and your cause is a great one. I will be in touch with Lennybhoy.

Re Jimmy Gordon & The Celtic Story

It is the most beautiful & inspirational film…..I still cannot listen to the slowed-down “We Shall Not Be Moved” music against a visual backdrop of wee (what would be regarded today as socially deprived) boys & girls playing in the backyards of Glasgow’s tenements……without shedding a tear. The affirmation that Celtic is for the underdog…..that can be working class/refugee/immigrant…….it’s a beautiful history and experience that we share.

More Power To Ye for a great initiative.
