Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

  1. Just read the Celtic Blog story:

“BRENDAN RODGERS: GREATNESS SULLIED BY ASTONISHING SELFISHNESS AND A BREATHTAKING ACT OF BETRAYAL.”

Time and again in life you encounter people who convey an image of honesty, sincerity and integrity… only to find out they have none of those qualities.

And every time it happens it truly saddens me.

If, as others have suggested, we need to come to terms with our position in Europe: at the back of the bus, why then is our CEO’s remuneration in line with top EPL CEO packages?

I’m no Lawwell hater- honest guv. Just curious.

    ==============================================================

Perhaps PL is being paid according to his contract.

    A reasonable supposition.

He can`t be blamed if his contract is seen by some as over generous.

  4. By the way, let us not underestimate the selfless task that Lenny has already undertaken here.

This is a man and family that went through hell, in this country when he was our manager.

Scotland should still be ashamed of what Lenny and his family went through.

What a brave and unselfish act this is from him and his family, put that against what BR has done today, before the season ends, it’s all about Brendan Rodgers… Disgusting.

Step forward a true hero and legend. NFL

  5. Regardless of how frustrating it may have been working within Lawell’s parsimonious regime, how ANY true Celtic man could walk away from the possibility of leading the Club to 10IAR is entirely beyond me. Just confirms that we were only ever a stepping stone for his ego. Hope his next sh!te is a hedgehog!!! HH

Mea culpa-james Forrest hits it on the head for me,a very revealing post from him ?

  9. Brendan Rodgers has no doubt a massive ego and it must have hurt said ego the way his achievements at Celtic have been rubbished. Maybe my bad mind but I wonder if Brendan will take some satisfaction if in his absence we mess up the rest of the season.

  10. Lennon has an honesty about him that the players will (hopefully) appreciate

The early season form particularly from the French guys who were close to him and the tweeting from Dembele since suggest Rodgers maybe doesnt

Personally i always sensed he came across as insincere with his whole ‘Celtic loving’ spiels

  14. Absolutely 100% behind Lenny as all at Celtic will be. Let’s get this job done. I won’t listen to Brendan or read about him. I don’t care. Lennon is our man now.

  15. CQN banner for tomorrow?????

Riddle Me This – Riddle Me That

Who thinks Rodgers is a twat??

While I’m here: why has he signed a four year deal at Leicester? He says his specialty is coaching and developing young players. Yet he’s taken Celtic as far as he could! So, after 2.5 years he can’t improve KT, CalMac, Christie or Hendry any more?

Hell, he only managed wee Hendo for ONE game!!!

I’m pretty sure he could have done a wee bit more here TBH!

  16. The Board receive much in the way of condemnation on here but they certainly did not hang about in appointing a replacement. In these circumstances, Neil Lennon is a superb choice.

I would say `Well done the Board` but I feel that would be too much for some on such a traumatic day :-)

Victory tomorrow, should it happen, will be as enjoyable as French Eddie`s free kick on Sunday !

  17. In times like these the support earn the right to call ourselves the best in the world. Manager, players and boards will come and go but we are here for our lifetime & we will stand up and back the team to the hilt. The home crowd has to be as noisy as our away crowd lifting the players .Every Celtic fan who attens a match between now & us winning the league must come home hoarse from back the team. Back our team be seen in green roar them on to 8IAR. The players will need it apparently when BR announced he was leaving they thought he was joking, I feel flat so god knows how they all feel. I am glad NL is in I thought Hibs played good football for him last season and he knows our club.

  19. There were times this season, domestically and in Europe where Brendan’s team selections and formations were baffling and where obvious changes were not made- most of our dropped league points were a result of team tinkering following European games. Was Brendan trying to make the league appear more competitive, was he making errors, or could he just not give a monkeys about how we were doing?

  20. Hello again all you… DISAPPOINTED… young rebels

This is what it feels like to be kicked in the teeth by one of your own,

Don’t know where the blame for all this lies but for a man who had

almost godlike status with our support the timing of this certainly

    sullies his tenure with us.

After talking to all the Celtic daddies down at our soccer grounds last

night about the info i was getting on here, to a man they all said the

same thing ” pash, Brendan wouldn’t go there ”

Never mind he’ll be able to visit the massive Leicester S.C in Melbourne

with his next visit to Oz with his new love.

” What do you mean there isn’t one?

” isn’t it next to the Man City one ?

” what! there isn’t one of them either?

” ach well, he can always visit one of the famous Glasgow Celtic ones

dotted all round Oz he’ll get a great welcome i’m sure…..naaawwwwwt.

  24. In life your reputation is worth more than anything else. Brendan will be remembered in the record books but I doubt very much he will be remembered fondly in the hearts of the support. A lot of them are doing cartwheels today but as I said to atypical one today Brendan leaving Celtic hasn’t turned them into Barcelona. I am sure we will be fine starting tomorrow with wiping the smirk off of Leveins face. It’s the hope that kills them
