Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

  1. Now that I’ve calmed down a bit, I’m with Pog on this:

I never really bought into his being a Celtic supporter since being knee high to a grasshopper because in close inspection his memories of Celtic were a tad wishy washy – If you know your history – I’m afraid Brendan seemed to be a bit vague on this and looked to have been spoon fed the bits he didn’t know. I didn’t really care because I thought he could do a job for us. (Pot 3:29).

Remember one of his first interviews when he called Broony Brownie….who the feck calls him Brownie? And then he sticks with it to kid on it’s his own affectionate nickname for the Great Mhan.

Usually when a legendary player leaves at the height of their game Paddy Crerand, King Kenny- or coming to the end – Jinky, Bobby M, Yogi- (insert your own favourites here), then I follow them and hope to see them doing brilliantly in their new team, but not this time. Treachery, spiteful, greed and arrogance is what it is. But, know what. BR doesn’t matter anymore. Won’t talk about him again. It’s never been Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic. It’s always been our Celtic and always shall be. For We Only Know There’s Going To Be A Show And The Glasgow Celtic Will Be There.

  2. While I have nothing but respect for Neil Lennon, for what he has had to endure as our player and manager, I hope the nonsense he will have to face again (I’m pretty sure) will not affect him too badly.

God bless you, Neil, and I trust the support you get will bring us the Treble Treble. You above all deserve it.

  3. I know nowt about Fitba’ but I have a bad feeling about Neil’s return……………

Thems hate him and he’s been thru enough.

There were times this season, domestically and in Europe where Brendan’s team selections and formations were baffling and where obvious changes were not made- most of our dropped league points were a result of team tinkering following European games. Was Brendan trying to make the league appear more competitive, was he making errors, or could he just not give a monkeys about how we were doing?

    =========================================================================

Good point, lets not forget the strange situation at start of season when BR was advising Tierney how good a move it would be for him,it was knocked on the head by KT and his father.

Wanted a pitch, got it,moaned about RB,suddenly happy with Toljan who is very average,,binned Henderson and Schievchenko for asking to play, but most of all he insisted Moussa must go,yet he is all over Twitter today more or less saying ” I told you so ” .

Lots of daft things which were tolerated on trust.Boy do I feel daft.

  5. I’m genuinely excited to see Lenny in charge tomorrow evening.

I don’t think you could have found a better, more Celtic-y guy to pick up this after Brendan crashed the motor.

    ‘Mon the Hoops!!!!!!!!!

  6. Deflated. Disbelief. etc etc.

Weird interview with the previously indomitable Neil on Celtic TV – our new MANAGER; rather meek and tame.

His line is not to touch anything, keep the same game plan and to lean heavily on his assistant JK.

I think these players need renewed dedication and focus, and a father figure to make them double-down.

    It was just…weird.

BUT Hail Hail Neil, welcome back sir!

  7. Let’s remember Neil Lennon signed:- Tom rogic, nir biton, griffiths ,wanyama, commons,Ledley,Emilio, Mathews, kayal, lustig all for under £1m each and vvd, Fraser Forster & hopper for £2.6m or less. Can’t think or Rodgers having as many successful signings

    @davidcampbell

  8. BSR-it’s a bit hard not to be loyal to Rodgers after what he has given us,but his introduction at his new team is stuff he gave us(my life) ffs?

Still the board have a lot to answer for but james Forrest has swayed me a bit.But know doubt some one else will sway me back again ?

  9. C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And hell mend anyone who gets in our way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. BIGYINMILAN

Just got your text ‘ Brendan a quisling?

Hate to say it, but the timing of it all makes it look that way.

Hope you are not suffering too much jet lag after your visit

    to rebel town.

    H.H Mick

  11. And in a video I’ve just seen, PL said “we’ve spoken to Neil…and another couple of candidates…”

Bet Steve Clarke refused to leave his current employers and team while the season was still running.

    Integrity Mr R.

AND, why doesn’t the transfer window apply to managers as well as players??

  12. NFL interview

‪Interesting….telling?….that the word ‘machinations’ slipped out when describing getting up to speed with the inner workings of the club. ‬

‪Something….a lot….stinks here. Fighting the FOD and establishment corruption is a challenge enough. Without also enemies within ‬

For me, NFL is the man for this moment. Perhaps the only viable option. And for as long as he’s here, he’ll have my full support

  13. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Hopefully Neil is a better, more experienced manager than the one that left five years ago.

    Good luck Neil.

    NATKNOW

Or threw us under a bus

    —————————————————

Life’s too short dude. BR made his choice for whatever reason. Looks mental to me, but there you go.

Celtic acted quickly to appoint a guy we all know, love and respect as a Celtic legend.

I genuinely feel that the circumstances etc. will mean Lenny will galvanise the team and drive us on.

    Hail hail!!

  15. SCANIEL

I still think of all those legends you mention and i seen all of them

grace the hoops but most were forced out of the club one way or

another, but one left for the lucre to Liverpool i i don’t think much

    of him at all.

probably the same way i’ll remember BR now.

    Still hurtin.

    H.H Mick

  16. Neil Lennon will be able to stamp some authority on proceedings at least but he needs to keep that temper in check, Brendan was mr cool and he should try to emulate that, in the public eye at least, but he should give them hell at Lennoxtown. He also knows the Scottish game from another angle now and he did alright at Hibs before he was mysteriously sacked or not. He didn´t cut it at Bolton but it might have felt a step down after Celtic and I hope he can thrive now in the club he feels part of. If he can keep up the standards then he will have a chance to continue as manager, although who knows who makes these decisions? The current board should be held accountable for their lack of transparency as it all seemed everything was hunky dory.

Hibs ostracised the great John Collins as well, when he had succeeded in Leith , with the help of the SSM and the Hibs board and the same happened recently with Lennon. Celtic are doing Lenny a great favour taking him on, rehabilitating him on the big stage in the eyes of the public and i hope he returns it in full. I wish the wee man all the luck in the West of Scotland. Neil Lennon was as tough as nails and as competitive as they come but he was never ever a dirty player. Now he needs to be goody two shoes.

  17. Is Mise Neil Lennon on

I haven’t posted in a long time but I just want to say: welcome back Neil! Despite his achievements, Brendan Rodgers has history in bailing on commitments. He displays a distinct lack of class.

  18. Maybe the stars have aligned and Lenny is back for the 10. Perhaps it was always meant to be this way. Lets hope so.

  19. From The Soccer Guy on FaceBook :

It’s a day of soccer sadness for the Glasgow Celtics as Kenny Rodgers fires his own ass and goes somewhere else to continue the hunt for Terry Munro.

The big Irish guy has joined English soccer club Chester City where he will try and win some different soccer cups. Former Hibernators coach Keith Lemon will take charge of the Celtics until the end of the semester as he has no job after getting fired when some Hibernators player told on him for calling him a douchebag or something

Macjay, I think you’re on the wrong blog. Nobody here gives a rat’s erse about Leicester City.

    =====================================================================

    You`re wrong.

    Check back.

  22. Is Brendan a quisling, a Lundy or just a very naughty boy?

My own preference being a man from the North of Ireland is ‘Lundy’ – bit of an insult in that part of the world particularly in the Loyalist community

  23. Still sore about today’s BRexit Shitstorm but young TT put a smile back on my face about a CHANCE meeting he had today at work with BFDJ who was engaged in a phone call and smiling excitedly on the phone about you know what !

Young fella drives up beside him windows down and blasted out “ let the people sing “ on the Tim tunes !

  24. 26/02/2019 today

26/02/2020 Brendan will no longer be Leicester Manager as he will get sacked

    Take that to the bank.

  25. Finding a perfect home is a lifetime challenge.

Can’t blame the Chesire Cat for wanting to be the Big Cheese in Leicester.
