Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

As a recent hairloss sufferer ;) I wouldnae wish that on embdy ;))

JANE FIELD STREET – fair dos; we all process it differently. I cant walk in BRs shoes so don’t ken what make him do it. I can hate his behaviour and choices, but still respect what he delivered to us to date.

You’re right, of course. I remember meeting a dear friend, Arthur Devlin RIP in the Old Barns before a game v Aberdeen. This was 1985 or 86. Said to him “Right time to head to the game, now”. “Is Yogi playing “ he asked. “Whit!?” I replied, “course not”. “Then I’m no going “ was his answer. Arthur sure took Yogi’s leaving hard.

And Melbourne Mick, also at 9:19…. yeah, most of them forced out, including KK. Part of me wanted him to succeed down there just to shut up all that hype over Keegan being irreplaceable. As CRC has pointed out before, not a great human being but his goals for us, especially against thems, were things of beauty and joy.

  4. Asupporterwhogotlucky – totally agree. Don’t think I ever got BR. He seemed to be everyone’s mate, always suspicious of people like that. Slimy type who you cannot trust. I’ve read his book, first time he had been to Hampdump was for first league cup final, long time supporter, don’t think so. Can’t help but think of all those words about the late great TB are now shallow. I think he hasn’t had us all over. Not saying I told you so but always had my suspicions about him. Would love to know more on the meaning of the David Lowe tweet. Wonder if he lets his son train with Leicester and gives him a chance to pull on their jersey!!! That was a joke, you don’t just let anyone pull on the famous hoops. I have two season books in the Jock Stein but I got a new email from Celtic today saying that the deadline to secure your ticket for the Huns game is 5.00pm tomorrow, surely this doesn’t apply to me? Many thanks if anyone can help. HAIL, HAIL – Cambhoy

  9. Hello folks, it’s been a while. ;)

All of today I’ve been fighting the feeling I might burst into flames with anger thanks to Brendan’s treachery. And let’s face it, that’s what this is. The notion that a fan OR indeed someone with any sort of professional integrity would up and leave at a pivotal point in the season is as ridiculous as it sounds. That leads me to the conclusion that it’s a decision driven by ego and shameless self interest.

What I hope is that we recognise the bad guy is the one that walked out on us. NOT the people at the club who are here and trying to shore up the mess. We’ll be in a worse position if we turn on our own.

As is, I think Lennon is a better, or at least more tactically astute, manager than Rodgers. And certainly one that has demonstrated a love of Celtic that goes *miles* beyond anything Rodgers has ever shown. Best of luck to Lenny!

As a wee PS, and food for thought – given the tragic death of the Leicester City owner, Brendan Rodgers ‘give my life’ comments were extremely distasteful in my opinion. And a measure of the sort of ego driven narcissist that’s just left our club. Onward and upward.

  10. Despite today’s horrendous news im buzzing for tomorrow and hope we can claim a massive victory and 3 points which would be a massive step towards 8 in a row.

A point no one has mentioned is we now have a massive advantage in the Hibs tie. That is a lot of knowledge and information transfered from the Hibs dressing room to the Celtic one.

Seems like unison amongst the CQN support .

Shoulder to shoulder for Lenny .

BTW Lenny`s European results were , from memory , much better than Brendan`s .

  22. Melbourne Mick, don’t try to explain Brendan leaving, explain the homecoming of Lenny, that is today’s story, the mhan who started the journey to 10 comes back to see it through.

    That’s a story

  23. Reading back.

Lots of brendan is a snake. A rat. Judas. Treacherous.

Nobody asking why a Celtic supporting record breaking manager took the first opportunity to leave.

Someone did say. Hugely wealthy employees don’t leave their dream job for more money. They leave because they don’t get what resources they need within the current job role.

    Brendan is not the villain.

The character assassination is quite ugly reading.

I wish the man well. I hope he is successful. He gave me the most wonderful CELTIC winning history making invincible memories.

We won’t see his like again.

Lennon I love. But Scottish football hate him more. Trebles won’t be allowed.

Thank you brendan. I might be a minority but I believe you were let down. You are right you took this CELTIC team as far as you could.

    Now onto supporting Lennon.

Meanwhile in thorntonhall a heated driveway melted because it’s set for a beast from the east snowstorm.
