Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

    Morning Tims…

So a new chapter opens in our wonderful history today. Albeit with someone who has a couple of chapters already written.

Lets All get 100% behind Neil and help get the team over the line for 8 ,then regroup in the summer and take it from there, if Lenny stays longer I’m fine with that, but thats for another day.

Will only see tonights game on the TV but I really wish I was going.

    Its a new day today..

    H.H

  2. Just switched on the TV and there is Deacon Blue singing “Ship Called Dignity”.

    Made me smile.

  3. Another point re BR leaving; why did he not creatively compromise in the situation he faced? :

Insist he was staying at the Tic to see out the end of the season, yet send Chris Davies to do a squad audit and structural review at the Foxes; even send his conditioning coach to assess fitness etc til Brendan got there.

That way, he could have done the ‘right thing’ by both clubs.

For those who really think CalMac, Jamesy or KT will blindly follow the leader to LCFC, they’re savvier than that.

It may suit Odsonne and Dedryck, though.

Was in Penang recently, and Georgetown sightseeing is great; the Scot/Brit influence is just below the surface.

I’d avoid ‘beach resort’ Batu Ferringhi lest you’re looking for a disheartening, shabby 3rd world experience.

I stayed at the Equatorial in Bayan Lepas; bit out of the way, but quality hotel nr golf club w good free venue shuttles, great pool, good scran, value and facilities.

We can now look forward to smsm liars informing us that “############” will be following Rodgers down the road, or that he will be back for ###########. Destabilise Celtic will now go into operation overdrive.

  5. It’s a new Day, it’s. a new Dawn.

We are of to face the Edinburgh version of Sevco spawn.

We will be kicked, shoved, pushed, but this is where we need our men.

Stand tall, fight your ground, win your personal battles, step forward Neil Francis Lennon.

  6. Can you imagine how Lennoxtown was yesterday and today? This is a massive psychological blow, also considering the departure of Toure and his supposed influence on the French speaking players. I can’t think of any other situation that comes close when any other manager has left. It really is unbelievable and seeing the footage of Rodgers at the Leicester game last night…well the less said the better. So much for me saying I wouldn’t let this bother me. No doubt Scott Brown and Neil Lennon will try to fire the players up. Massive few days.

  7. Colour Blind Bhoy on

15,000 fans turned up to welcome him.

Season tickets flew off the shelf.

He led us to 6 in a row.

He led us to a treble in an invincible season in 16/17.

He led us to a double treble in season 17/18.

He led us to our 7th trophy win in December 18.

And yet, he will not be remembered fondly nor respected.

You are defined by your actions and in the end Brendan, you have written your own legacy.

  8. Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles.

Really! What a glib and dismissive remark.

Best of luck jock and thanks for the nine in a row, two trebles and european cup.

Is there another club in world football who treat successful managers with such disdain?

  9. Good Morning… fresh, crisp morning here in the Chilterns. The temperature is forecast to soar again today.

The last February I remember like this was when we had recently flitted down to South England… that summer, ’76, was scorching. I predict another one this summer!!

    BGFC @ 12:26 AM,

Of course no offence was taken, it was a emotional day…

    AULDHEID @ 12:05 AM,

Very good levelheided post. For me the Brendan Rodgers era will always be about what could have been.

Brendan and his team go with my blessing, his position was quite simply untenable, if anyone tells you the Celtic Board didn’t realise that they are being, at the very least, disingenuous.

Last summer’s squad management as we all know was a debacle, in the Autumn there was an internal high level summit within Celtic to “fix” this.

We don’t know what happened, we don’t know what was agreed but we can see the results. After breaking the omerta in the Summer BR has been silent and all others involved have held their wheeest.

It’s obvious from the lack of any announcement, any forward planning and from January’s transfer window, (where BR bought one player – an African forward,) that BRs tenure was at an end.

Whose side were you on? Is it academic now since the Board obviously won? Not for me.

You see, the fault lines that brought us to this point are now a chasm that needs to be bridged… we simply haven’t the poeple on Board to do that.

Someone mentioned the excellent player acquisitions that was made the last time Lenny was Manager at Celtic Park. Others mention his undoubted domestic and European success.

Of course that’s great, we’ll all have some great memories of that time that will never leave us, the jelly & ice cream, Tony Watts goal etc etc…

We may not like to recall the 30+, million pound + players that never made it.

We may not like to recall the fact that despite running the academy teams before getting promoted and despite urging Tony Mowbray to develop these players at that time, that the Celtic bhoys failed to develop under Lenny.

We may not like to recall that the last straw for Lenny seemed to be having a number two and a game plan foisted on him.

So it’s interesting hearing Lenny talk yesterday. The first thing that struck me was his countenance. Lenny has been very open and very brave in discussing his and mental health issues in general.

I couldn’t help noticing that after a great run of form for Hibs, Lenny had an episode and Hibs season plummeted. It ended in inglorious confrontation.

Lenny is very self aware, he made some space for himself, it is obvious in yesterday’s interview that he was not going to bite off more than he could chew, he was not going to let the burden of expectation weigh heavy upon him – wise, but is it even possible as Celtic manager!?

He will be leaning heavily on John Kennedy. Well he has faith in John and that’s good.

However that says to me, John Kennedy is the man at the helm, he does not have the gravitas to take the role, especially in the eyes of the Celtic support, so a “name” was needed and no doubt a mentor. And what a name, what a mentor, we can but wish them our best and get right behind them.

Yet in all of this something Lenny said that struck me as incongruent, it might mean he has lived and learned or some other machinations…

…it was this. As well as accepting JK’s role when he wouldn’t have Ronny foisted upon him, he has also accepted the game plan and tactics that were foisted upon him five Seasons ago.

    Why?

Huge question and begs the other one, who does make the decisions at Celtic?

Now in most football clubs you have four huge roles.

    Chairman

    MD/CEO

    Director/Head of Football

    Team Mananger/Head Coach

The Chairman normally leads the Club, is responsible for producing and maintaining strategy as well as being the spokesperson and “face” of the Club.

The head of football is the person who insures implementation and continuity of the Club strategy throughout the Club, from Academy to the first team.

We know what the other two do so I’ll concentrate on the above…

Why does Celtic not have a Chairman worthy of the name. No disrespect to Mr Bankier, but we all know that he’s not:

    “CLUB CHAIRMAN”

Who or what constitutes the Head of Football role at Celtic? It obviously goes on; decisions regarding the Academy, the formations and tactics employed, the recruitment policy and even transfers that are outwith the control of the Head coach.

Someone, or some committee does this, yet we don’t know how, when or why.

Why bring this up now? Well as a Club we face huge challenges.

Under Brendan we had a nine figure turnover for the first time.

Under Brendan we had a squad worth a nine figure sum for the first time.

That was June 2018, since when we have spiralled downwards. Our squad value has dropped by 25% and our turnover has dropped.

Half of our first team are out of contract in the summer, half!! Thats when we start our UCL campaign, if and it’s now an IF we win the league.

What are we going to do? As a wiser man than I once said – “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

If we going to make a season of it the team must take your advise…

“Win each game they play in, one game at a time.”

    Let’s start tonight at Tynecastle…

    Hail Hail

  10. New Leicester chant.

  11. morning bhoys from a sunny but cold Cheshire, that was some day yesterday, but we move on, nobody is bigger, than celtic, neil francis lennon we have a game tonight go to it son.hh.

  12. Ask yourself this;

“Will you ever again believe another word that comes out of the mouths of those people managing and running our club?”

    I know that I won’t.

We are at our best with our backs against the wall.

What a tart Brendan Rodgers is. It’s actually humorous. The guys a Parody.

That said, those close to Lawwell with blogs and twitter etc releasing their pro Lawwell propaganda need to take a look at this latest episode and find it within themselves to admit the common denominator on a lack of harmony between the manager and coaching part of Celtic and it’s corporate soul.

I imagine Mr Rodgers has a gagging order though some stuff may leak out from his side of the story in the coming days such is the magnitude of the back lash.

It is very important to understand who signed Arzani and who signed Shved and did we have any reports on them from Congerton or did we sign them based on some other recommendations?

Will we perpetually stick to the same transfer budget despite the ability to increase turnover to over £100m?

When will the long term managerial issues be resolved? Will we have any parity on managerial candidates this time without the histrionics of a Desmond candidate being courted in parallel to the Lawwell candidate at the same time we are trying to achieve a treble treble?

There is a strong faction who don’t want Neil Lennon as long term boss.

Desmond will want an Anglo Irish Man U connected candidate.

Lawwell will want someone he can control

The blogs will want a money ball boss.

I just want someone who can make us more money and get Lawwell to spend it. That’s were success lies.

  15. I was going to post this before BR left – so I’m not sticking the boot into him, though why not – I think the way he treated Scott Allan was disgraceful. Why wasn’t he allowed to leave last summer? He seemed to have disappeared for the first half of this season. With all the injuries to our midfield players, we might well need him on the bench now.

  17. 2,5 million a season to manage the club you love.

    Adored by the fans.

A wage bill on players in excess of £60 million a season.

A transfer budget that dwarfes every other club in the country.

Over 20 players signed in his reign…..

Now we should blame the owners and PL?

err no thanks.I would like to thank PL and the board for their continued loyalty and leadership of our club.

  18. ” I would like to sincerely thank the Board at Celtic for giving me the opportunity to manage Celtic in the first place and for the support they have given me throughout my time as manager.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Peter, Ian, Dermot and the rest of the Celtic Board, and together we have done everything we could to bring success to our supporters.”

  19. Good Morning Tims, Woke up this morning with a smile on my face. Celtic are playing tonight and any day that Celtic are playing is special for me.

Just want to wish our Team & Manager all the best tonight. A win tonight and the Championship is within touching distance,

After tonight just 5 games to the break, 3 at home & the 2 aways to Dundee & St. Mirren, no disrespect to any opponent but all games we would expect to win.

    This decision is under appeal.

That fact should be respected .

A number of informed commentators have serious doubts about the verdict .

What is undeniable is that there has been trial by media over a number of years .

Particularly by the Green / Left Australian Broadcasting Corporation who repeatedly and gleefully have attacked Cardinal Pell and whose previous accusatory programmes have been proved to have no basis in fact.

How can a jury be expected to be unbiased under those circumstances ?

  21. Corkcelt

I like the look of that run up to the split.

Tonight`s game feels like we are neck and neck for the title instead of eight points clear !!

Golf today for me to keep my mind off the Jambos for a few hours :-))

    JJ

  22. I would imagine that the 3 very good loan players [benkovic, weah, burke] we have until the end of the season now have very little chance of staying on or somehow being signed permenantly.

Although its doubtful it was ever happening anyway.

  23. If I am honest even with Brendan in charge the following two games were likely to be very challenging.

The last tough test at killie a few weeks ago we got pretty fortunate to be honest not to drop points.

I really hope we can kick on this week but the really important one is tonight,

The treble would be great but the league title is everything.

  24. Incidentally, Hearts are still 5/1 tonight. Hard to feel confident after the events of the last 24 hours but, perhaps strangely, I am.

    Cheerio for now,
