Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

Purely from people management experiences . Best employees jump ship when they are promised something and then let down.

If that’s the case, whey didn’t he simply resign and wait for another job from the sidelines? It’s not like he’s living pay cheque to pay cheque. Which is where both his loyalty and his ego come in. If he was deeply unhappy, he didn’t use Peter Lawwell. And he certainly didn’t punch him. What Rodgers did was take his anger out on us. He punched down. It’s not the mark of someone with admirable qualities or someone you’d want in your corner. Furthermore, why also leave Celtic in the grubber by emptying out the caching staff immediately too?

I’ll be shedding no crocodile tears for Brendan Rodgers. At best he’s been selfish. At worst? At worst he’s actually tried to inflict damage on the club in furtherance of a personal feud. In neither circumstance does Brendan Rodgers come out of this well.

    Trusting your supervisor is paramount.

For all of Peter Lawwell’s sins, and there are many, he’s never been found acting in purely his own interests. He’s still at the club. He’s still working for Celtic. And if he wasn’t very good – do you think a shark like Desmond would have him on board? Really? This is the money machine that’ll underfund care homes to make a profit, that appears int he Panama papers…. That Dermot Desmond?

If PL let brendan down more than once or maybe a recent disagreement then B brendan says I am left with no option but to leave. PL carpark door stepping interview earlier tonight said to me he was astounded of forehead.

We have a freakishly large wage bill. A scary large one. A ‘Rangers’ circa Torre Andre Flo era wage bill. Sorry, but I think the 9m signing of French Eddie and the numerous multi million pound deals for players is backing the manager as far as we can safely go.

….especially when he fails to get us into the champions league against opposition that we *should* be beating. Brendan’s tactical naiveté and slavish adherence to ‘attacking football’ got us thrashed in Europe. And seemingly without actually learning lessons from it. For all the talk of the treble, my enduring memory is of abject terror on European nights that another doing would be doled out and that this would be the one that robbed the players of self belief domestically.

How many times did a Brendan Rodgers team punch above its weight? Or win a game we were the underdog in? I still have happy memories of both Strachan and Lennon teams giving us these? With Brendan Rodgers the results did’t increase in ratio with the wage bill or squad.

If he survives this then he is defacto the emperor.

It won’t be Rodgers that’s the emperor, that’s for sure. He’s too busy promising the earth to Leicester City… until at least a better offer comes in.

MELBOURNE MICK on 26TH FEBRUARY 2019 11:08 PM

Lenny had an article a couple of days ago about why he left Celtic.

In the light of subsequent events , no coincidence .

    It was being planned then.

    —————————-

Hi MACJAY1 – Do you think that means Celtic knew it was on the cards from BR and contacted Lenny so he was in place early? If so – it sounds like a decent reaction to an impending crisis.

Alternatively – is there any sense that this was a longer-term thing, do you think? So – was it a reaction to knowing BR planned to leave soon, or was it to prepare for kicking him out the door?

I don’t think – from the James Forrest article earlier and the disquiet for many months now – that Celtic only knowing about this yesterday is plausible, but probably an understandable statement. Perhaps complete certainty only emerged yesterday.

Either way – was great seeing Neil Lennon in Celtic kit once again. No doubts about his feelings about Celtic.

  6. In my opinion these changes at the football club are all worked out well before we get to know. Are we to believe that Chris Davies and the rest of the management team, including their wives, girlfriends and kids at school, were only given a day or so notice that they were moving to the East Midlands? Also, when did NL find out?

    I can only speculate.

Multi million dollar deals seldom happen overnight without careful assessment by both sides of all the potential consequences.

    Brendan out and Lenny in.

In the blink of an eye .

I can`t imagine that Brendan got the boot. The Board would have known the sense of shock and outrage which would follow.

    As it has .

My guess is that Puel got sacked in the knowledge that Brendan had been tapped up and would jump the good ship Celtica .

    BIG bickies at stake.

    Lenny ?

Yes please . The only silver lining to the Brendan cloud.

  8. I hope Lenny tells our players to play the ball in front of our speedy wide men and forwards.

And KT becomes the swashbuckling marauder he was pre Brendan.

And tippy happy shit gets consigned to history.

I posted earlier, was NL leaving Hibs part of a plan?

    ——————–

BB – did you read James Forrest’s blog earlier – lays out how bad the relationships were inside Celtic, and David Low’s tweets earlier seem to back that up. All looks like what you suggest might have been a reaction to seeing the writing on the wall.

Might just be coincidence right enought – guess we’ll never know (I still want to know what Sleekit Sally whispered to Neil during the ‘Shame Game’ – when Celtic behaved impeccably and Rangers behaved like thugs).

  12. Re posted with the bit about how Steve Clarke was called in full abbreviated out for the tender souls

There is a natural sense of betrayal at the manner of Brendan Rogers departure.

Loss is always followed by denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance.

The quicker we go through that grief process as individuals the better, but the response to loss is perfectly natural including finding someone to blame.

However life goes on and when emotions recede there is always a job to be done.

BR was great at helping players achieve their full potential and has added a lot of value on the park. He has also made signing mistakes on the debit side but overall his management account was in credit until now where he is in overdraft territory.

He also had a style of play that was porous in Europe and sometime at home, but not often.

Neil Lennon who is older budweiser, has a good record of solidity in Europe and knows Celtic inside out and it makes sense to ask him to be the bandage over the wound that BR’s unexpected departure at this point has caused.

Neil might not fancy a short contract but there is part of the BR compensation to pay him handsomely.

Steve Clarke obviously has to be in the running although he might not fancy being an official F B at every away game.

Either are up for the job short or long term.

    Safe pairs of hands.

So until the grief passes that is what is needed for on field success to continue. Safe hands.

Some players might feel betrayed which would be understandable but as professionals they have a job to do.

Win each game they play in, one game at a time.

  13. Who knows what really caused the breakdown? Not the average punter as those who run Celtic obviously deem things like that beyond the ken of us numpties. So, not going to pile on BR too hard ….

Will say this though about the timing ….

Gerrard was quoted tonight as saying he would never leave Rangers in the lurch …

Now, if you do something that allows a crap bag like SG to take the moral high ground, you might want to seriously consider if this is the right thing to do ….

    —–

    Indeed.

Strangely, if the mood on here is refective more generally of the Celtic fans, we will move on from this very quickly. No-one seems to be pining for our loss, and Lenny will get a great reaction from the fans I’m absolutely certain.

Everyone will have their views about the genesis of today’s departure, but I think the focus will be very quickly on results for the team, and on our new manager.

BR is very much yesterday’s man – his actions won’t be forgotten. Irrespective of views on the Board’s role, or any other considerations, I expect he will be shunned forevermore by most Celtic fans – unlike virtually all of our previous managers.

  16. Saw Rodgers interview lifted from LCTV telling them that he was in no hurry to leave Celtic but in the same breath he felt he had taken Celtic as far as he could and what forced his hand was having time to analyse the ambitions of LCFC. Christ, he doesn’t half spout a load of shite!

One point I read on here earlier, not sure who posted it but it struck home…at no point under Rodgers did Celtic ever punch above our weight…

  17. I asked last night but never got back on the forum does anyone know how Christie and Calmac are? Also any return dates for our other injured players

Sweet Jesus H Christ most of the backroom staff gone as well – still opportunity to pull together and become a solid hard to beat professional outfit

  20. Regardless of the finer details BR has clearly taken his grudge out on us, over personal reasons and no amount of compensation from Leicester will ever square his debt or reputation with the Celtic support.

A support that are left with the job of backing the team he rejected without so much as a thought, a brass neck if ever there was one.

Truly astonishingly dark day ends with him pontificating to the Leicester support about laying down his life.
