Bet your novelty duck there are lessons to be learned

1033

Celtic probably anticipated the three match suspension Uefa imposed on Scott Brown following his red card for an off the ball incident against Barcelona, if they didn’t, they should have.  That’s not to say the decision is not “harsh”, as the club described it, as far as off the ball incidents go, this was a lesser offence, but it was a red card awarded for an off the ball incident nonetheless.

Are there lessons to be learned?  You can bet your novelty Celtic duck on it.

No more on this, or injuries, until late next week.  Absolute focus is required on the task ahead.  Ajax will arrive in town on Monday low on confidence, let’s take them.

A CQN’er has kindly donated two tickets for Tuesday’s game at Celtic Park against Ajax for the 1254125 appeal.  You can bid for them by silent auction by emailing your bid to ajax@celticquicknews.co.uk.

Please include telephone contact details.  Auction will close at 19:00 on Sunday.  The winning bidder will be notified on Sunday evening, tickets need to be paid for directly to the 1254125 MyDonate campaign before 12:00 on Monday or the tickets will be offered to an alternative bidder.

Many thanks for participating.

Yeah I know mate, I also know that you’d need more than just our shared God and all his angels and saints to protect you if you ever used such language under your roof. And if such ever does come to pass, please don’t pause to e-mail me…… RUN.

So there’s no confusion, when I wrote:

True what is often said, a little knowledge of another language can get you into a lot of trouble.”>/em>

I was not referring to others, I was referring to myself.

  3. kit,

    I know.

    Thanks amigo.

I’d tell you that you were one of the most important fholk on this site, but you wouldn’t believe it, or accept it.

You think on a level that a lot of fholk do, but in the current climate, aren’t allowed to support. But not only that, you do with a leadership and resolve.

A loss to Scotland, but a massive bonus to wherever you happen to be.

    You have my total respect.

I can’t link the Straight Story again, so have to find something else equally fitting…: I did, but not enough time. But think this is something you’ll like:

I’m just an ordinary Celtic Supporter mate who isn’t scared to voice his opinion borne from conviction. There are heaps like that on here and on some of the other Celtic sites too. There are more out there who have tenfold more to offer than I ever could but they won’t post because they don’t want to get involved with pedantry and semantics and to have their heavily invested emotive feelings subject to inane harangue.

Their silence is this blogs loss and it is detrimental to all the good charitable ventures that Paul, and others, promote on this site. Important posters on here, well to my mind mate, they are the ones who have left us to sit with their makers, they’re the ones who left and didn’t come back; they’re the ones who are yet to introduce themselves; they’re the ones whose actions do their talking and their faces might not ever come out of the shadows, but I wish they would. All I ever do is spout my opinion. Some people sometimes agree with my position whilst other times, they, and others too, don’t.

Such is life and either way, neither detracts from my sleep. To me the important poster is the one who is trying his utmost to support his club and his community.

The reason I come on here mate.. I live a distance away from Parkhead and all the mates I miss from there and in the pub. This is as close as I can get back to Paradise on a daily basis. This blog is my No. 64 corpy bus. I like the diversity of opinion. I like to get the news from a reliable source. I like the people who populate this place and I feel that I have a lot in common with just about every single one of them even though our beliefs and opinions might not always be in full accord. Above all, just about every single one of them appreciates it is very nice to be important, but it is much more important to be nice and many on here do the latter with such humility and generosity, ever so much more naturally than I ever could. Their kindnesses and their compassions are blessings from their parents sacrifices. They are what is important, without people like them then not only would this place suck, society itself would go down the drain.

Just a wee bit of background, I grew up in Glasgow in the same neighbourhood as macjay. He was a mate of my elder brother. He and his family made sacrifices to put him through university. He never wasted his eduction and he works hard. He has never forgotten his roots and he has never forgotten the meaning of the word family in both its narrow and broader term. He has never forgotten that unfortunates don’t need pity they need real help and believe me he has not forgotten what ‘real help’ entails.

But he won’t tell you any of that, he’s one of those good guys I’ve just been talking about.

  8. When is JoBo due on?

Is when he makes his weather report the official end to the moon howlers shift?

I always enjoy the battle of the greens. I met Jinky’s daughter on Glasgow Green at the gig on the green, eminem headlining briefly the day we pumped Hibs 4-0 at Easter Road. Treble final day was great; also the 6-1 and 6-3 finals were not bad.

Yes I do enjoy a Green day.

  11. It was 1846

70 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence

The United States was fighting its first ‘foreign’ war.

At stake was the sovereignty of Mexico; the expansion of the United States and the fate of North America.

But somewhere on the battlefields of the US/Mexican war a battalion of Irish soldiers, immigrants to the land of liberty were fighting for their own freedom.

They had deserted their adopted country and their army because they would not desert their faith.

These were the soldiers of St. Patrick, Irish Catholics who took up arms to defend the Republic of Mexico against the freest nation on earth.

    The St. Patrick’s Battalion

    My name is John Riley

I’ll have your ear only a while

I left my dear home in Ireland

It was death, starvation or exile

And when I got to America

It was my duty to go

Enter the Army and slog across Texas

To join in the war against Mexico

It was there in the pueblos and hillsides

That I saw the mistake I had made

    Part of a conquering army

With the morals of a bayonet blade

So in the midst of these poor, dying Catholics

Screaming children, the burning stench of it all

    Myself and two hundred Irishmen

Decided to rise to the call

From Dublin City to San Diego

    We witnessed freedom denied

So we formed the Saint Patrick Battalion

And we fought on the Mexican side,

We formed the Saint Patrick Battalion

And we fought on the Mexican side

  12. Good morning everyone. The weather in EK this morning couldn’t be anymore different to a special day from 56 years ago. It’s been raining most of the last 24 hours and whilst it’s off at the moment it’s still pretty grey and chilly. An extra layer for the ole ParkRun this morning.

Only 374 minutes to kick off. Remember it’s the slightly earlier start time today, 12.30.

  13. The St. Patrick’s Battalion – Black 47

I came to this country an innocent boy

From the green fields of galway

When the hunger was clawin’ at me

Came for redemption, respect and regard

All i got was new masters

And a kick up the arse

Oh, they beat me and robbed me

On the streets of new york

    When all that i wanted

    Was an honest day’s work

    Saying “get up now, paddy,

    You’re an ignorant sort

    Far worse than a beast

You won’t do what you’re told”

Oh, they spat at my crucifix

    Laughed at my church

    They called me a papist

    And many things worse

    I soaked up their insults

    And i swore revenge

    Send them know-nothing bastards

    Straight back to hell

  14. Saint Patrick\’s Battalion 1847

We marched ‘neath the green flag of Saint Patrick

    Emblazoned with “Erin Go Bragh”

Bright with the harp and the shamrock

    And “Libertad para Mexicana”

    Just fifty years after Wolftone

    Five thousand miles away

The Yanks called us a Legion of Strangers

And they can talk as they may

But from Dublin City to San Diego

    We witnessed freedom denied

So we formed the Saint Patrick Battalion

And we fought on the Mexican side,

We formed the Saint Patrick Battalion

And we fought on the Mexican side

    We fought them in Matamoros

While their volunteers were raping the nuns

    In Monterey and Cerro Gordo

We fought on as Ireland’s sons

We were the red-headed fighters for freedom

Amidst these brown-skinned women and men

Side by side we fought against tyranny

And I daresay we’d do it again

“Turns out to be steak tartare, which is sort of a raw quarter-pounder. It must’ve been stored next to a radiator or something because I spent the next three days on the bog.

“I says to the NME bloke ‘Never again’ and he only goes and prints it as me announcing I’m a steak-dodger.”
