Bet your novelty duck there are lessons to be learned

1033

Celtic probably anticipated the three match suspension Uefa imposed on Scott Brown following his red card for an off the ball incident against Barcelona, if they didn’t, they should have.  That’s not to say the decision is not “harsh”, as the club described it, as far as off the ball incidents go, this was a lesser offence, but it was a red card awarded for an off the ball incident nonetheless.

Are there lessons to be learned?  You can bet your novelty Celtic duck on it.

No more on this, or injuries, until late next week.  Absolute focus is required on the task ahead.  Ajax will arrive in town on Monday low on confidence, let’s take them.

A CQN’er has kindly donated two tickets for Tuesday’s game at Celtic Park against Ajax for the 1254125 appeal.  You can bid for them by silent auction by emailing your bid to ajax@celticquicknews.co.uk.

Please include telephone contact details.  Auction will close at 19:00 on Sunday.  The winning bidder will be notified on Sunday evening, tickets need to be paid for directly to the 1254125 MyDonate campaign before 12:00 on Monday or the tickets will be offered to an alternative bidder.

Many thanks for participating.

Are you still able to purchase rolls in which when opened you had to tear out the dough in the middle as it was fluffy -if so what kind do you ask for-not seen any since my childhood in the 70s

    ………………….

The headmaster who took the boys of St Margarets was a gent, who had taught Jimmy Walsh, a local boy who played for Celtic that day and now lives in Leicester.

Boys at that time didn’t so much talk about Celtic but about the great Charlie Tully’s Celtic.

My memories of that day are mostly of colour. The drab buildings then were all smoke blackened, the people’s clothes were all greys, kahki, black, navy, and cars only came in black and when the brilliant green and white hoops ran onto the park! Wow.

Billy Connolly said it is like a wee party starting in his head when the hoops run out!

He’s not wrong and still to this day the hoops does that for me but not the other strips that we wear.

I would rest Effe today completely. And anyone else who played midweek (Brown excepted).

A sodden Easter Road is full of potential pitfalls for a squad who are one knock away from being classed as ‘depleted’, if not ‘ravaged by injury’.

What I have to keep in mind is that not up to speed or reads CQN & The celtic trust.

After reading BRTH’s piece on TSFM many more people will now know what we have known for a while thanks to canamalar ,Morrissey the 23rd ,Auldheid & others for me it is just getting the basic facts out to as many as possible before the AGM which IMHO BRTH did superbly.

    ps

It would shock you that when signitures were being collected in and around celtic park just how many had no idea of what the basic proposal was about(share holders included).

Perhaps not on the Costa Del Port Seton, but in EH10 there is light drizzle. Doesn;t look like it’ll come to anything though.

    bsr,

The other day on here, I related my experience of the 7-1 day……getting beat 13 -0 in a Boys Guild game.

On the brighter side, for me, was the birth of our youngest daughter 26 years ago today.

  12. Efe to RB, Charlie to CH, with Ledley or Kayal into Mid with Broonie.

May want to finish game with Ledley and Kayal in Mid, as that looks best option for Tues ?

Also looks likely Efe at RB for Tues .

    Hibs 1 …. Celtic 2

    Hail Hail

  13. Not really bright & sunny in Tipperary yet, but it is getting there. TBH I’d prefer if it pished rain for the day. I’ve got about 7 hours of matches I want to watch, the last thing I want is for Mrs. corkcelt to be suggesting walks or family visits. I do have a grand sons birthday to squeeze in as well. Lord but life isn’t easy.

  17. The doggedness and determination by those who refuse to let this issue rest , particularly Auldheid, has to be applauded. If it wasn’t for their investigative zeal, this would not have seen the light of day.

I though have some questions about what the motion hopes to achieve.

1 Is there a concern over the way the issue was handled by the Celtic board ?

2 Is there an expectation that Celtic and other clubs can be financially compensated for the incorrect awarding of the licence to Rangers

3 Is there a desire that those in the SFA who participated in the award are disciplined for failing to deal accurately and possibly fairly with the issue

4 Do we want a new system of oversight for the awarding of Licences. Both european and national.

    Taking each question in turn

1 It is difficult to see what more the Celtic board could have done. They obviously had no qualms about confronting the SFA and subsequently judging their response to be self protecting and flawed. Uefa will , as i have said before on here, not support an individual club against a member national association, if there is even a 1% grey area.

I suspect UEFA will be saying privately Rangers deceived the SFA, and the SFA would not have been able to get an answer from HMRC, who won’t discuss anyone’s tax affairs , not even with the UK government. We all know it stinks of cronyism and coverup, however getting a result is a very different matter. It would have involved Celtic taking Uefa and the SFA to the CAS, and that is an incredibly high risk action

2 If the aim is to be financially compensated, it isn’t worth the effort. The SFA do not have the money, not even close to enough to satisfy a successful claim

3 This is a key area for me. There will be some within the SFA who will not be to blame for this. There are however at least 3 key employees or office holders who’s position is untenable. Top of the list is Campbell Ogilvie, as BRTH’s article has shown & as Auldheid has previously demonstrated, Ogilvie wasn’t just part of the process of rule breaking he was also part of the deception to cover it up. His silence was critical. He should be dishonourably discharged from office.

Regan is reponsible in the same way Mather’s position was untenable once the requisitioners won their court battle. He didn’t have a robust enough organisation to prevent the fraud by Rangers & he has done nothing since it became clear the SFA were deceived.

The final individual is the executive responsible for licencing. I believe that , at the time , was David Findlay.

Removing the guilty from office is a very worthwhile objective of this motion, if indeed that is an objective

4 If the SFA had demanded a bank statement from Rangers , which showed the £500,000 claimed payment to HMRC, then you could have believed they took an appropriate step to verify that claim. It should be mandatory that every club produces it’s TAX and VAT returns, and provides proof of payment. The fact that the SFA did not do this, and do not do this, is evidence that their procedures are flawed.

Enabling a more robust procedure would also be a worthy objective of the motion

  18. If Efe is right back on Tuesday we’ll lose. He’s a nightmare there. Watched him at RB v Ethiopia on Sunday and he was dreadful. With our central midfield weakened on Tuesday due to our captain’s stupidity, the last thing we need to do is weaken our central defence as well. If Lustig doesn’t make it for Tuesday then play Darnel Fisher, and with that possibility in mind give him a game today. We need to start trusting our youngsters and give them a chance. Look at who we play on Tuesday and the age of their players. If Fisher plays his direct opponent would be another 19 year old.

  21. Barcabhoy:

It was canamalar’s resolution, he carried the whole burden on his lonesome for weeks before anybody else got on the bandwagon. I saw Auldheid getting the credit for it on TSFM; credit should go to where it’s due rather than where people would like to see it go.

  22. Barcabhoy you did say: “The final individual is the executive responsible for licencing. I believe that , at the time , was David Findlay.”

Not getting our Donalds and Davids mixed up are we.
