Better for both parties that Lustig moved on

302

Modest understatement: we got our money’s worth for the wages paid to Mikael Lustig, who confirmed last night he had left Celtic.  He joined from Rosenborg in January 2012 on a free transfer and leaves on a free, winning all eight league titles, four Scottish Cups and four League Cups in the intervening period, becoming one of our most decorated players in the process.

In 2013, Mikael had surgery to shave bone from both hips.  It is remarkable that his career at the top lasted this long, but, perhaps as a consequence of changes to his physical mechanics, he has suffered regular injuries since.  At 32, so the story is not over, there will be a place in the game for him, just not at the level Celtic aspire to.

Football clubs have a tendency to keep favourite players beyond their peak years, when they are running as much on reputation as ability.  Had Mikael stayed, it would be either for this reason, or because we were not going to recruit a replacement.  It is better for both parties that they moved on.

  4. Young Turnbull’s Agent has put so much pressure on this 19 year old kid to be successful…..I will be amazed if this kid can cope and will be a success…..the Meeja will eat him up….it’s almost a No Win….unless he shocks us and is the finished article….however after one season wae The Steelmen….I doubt it ….but would so loved to be proved wrong…

  5. What is the Stars on

    Never liked Turnbull

    A project

    Name not feniany enough

    Hope the deal falls through….AGAIN

  6. Pleasantly surprised to hear about the turn around on David Turnbull. Also can’t shake the feeling we’re losing something we didn’t know we had when Mika goes. The warmth the Club and players have expressed about him tells me he’s a special person. Good luck and thank you for the memories PC Lustig.

  7. For the uninitiated …

Vicky Pollard: No, but yeah, but no, because if you don’t let me in then Blazin’ Squad are well, gonna give you beatings because I’ve actually already met them already anyway, actually, down at the Radio 1 Roadshow at Weston Super-Mare!

Delighted Turnbull has signed, the guys who are unsure, need to look at Liam O’Donnell advising a 19 year old guy IMO,i went to games and supported Celtic teams which included Kenny Misser and Steven Pressly……once DC scores his first goal, all will be fine…

  11. Is that a bit of good news? Certainly looks like it, yesss.

My only motivation is Celtic having the best team possible.

I’ll swallow my pride, all about the end result for me.

So well done in getting a good young prospect in.

However, today has certainly lifted the bonnet on the way we do business and has left a few individuals looking not so clever.

Step forward Mr Lawwell, now admitting you need help is much better than trying to fool people their is no problem and having things pile up.

Strange we bring in someone just for the summer who can’t start for 10 days, smacks of crisis management, blows the myth of this well oiled machine although some of us had recognised the failures of the last 4 windows. Better late than never though.

Next up is John Kennedy, i don’t blame him personally but he doesn’t look to clever. Maybe a lesson in their somewhere to hang fire with detail until its totally dead, although most of the blame must be on the players side.

All in all a good young promising player with unbelievable stats is joining our club, what’s done is done, what’s won is won,(?) clean slate please, the bigger picture is what matters.

  13. nearly 5 weeks into transfer window or as peter lawell calls it ” a horrible time when people force me to spend my lovely balance sheet money, but I usually find some spin to take people mind off it”

david turbull could not have done a better job for bonus Pete if he had tried to

    1. 3 million is a small sum

    2. it position that is not our priority

    3. everyone taking about this and taking eye of ball of all the money (29M+) available to buy the center half, right back and striker

before we know it will be last two weeks, the main bulk of cash wont be spent and we will scrambling to bring in projects and a few loans

bonus pete gets away with it every time and the happy clappers clap away merrily while our club gors backwards he is good at it

slow build up play and no variation to our play meant we were easy to play against last season, tactics were Poor, fact

Add to that arzani, kouasi and griff missing the whole season. K.T missing 70% of season. Boyata, Fb, ajer, ralston, christie, rogic, hendry, bitton and bayo missing about 50% of the season.

The result of Poor tactics and injuties was poor preformances. The end result winners of all domestic cups and last 32 in europa league.

I am looking forward to next season. All our injured players are on the way back, we have added shved into the mix and we have found a few gems in our academy in dembele, henderson and oxo-flex. Church also has a good chance. We have a couple of rated american fullbacks coming in november, gutman and perez.

Sign a good quality centreback and rightback and we will be in a very good place.

Any new players thereafter will simply be replacing players sold.

There is still a lot of scope to trim down the number of fringe players from the squad this season and next.

  15. Stephbhoy

    I can’t ague with your logic……..

    But

That kind of positivity won’t please the mineshafters.

Happy golfing to the Aberdour invaders.

  16. Talking of the gowf afficionados

I hope you all buy LennyBhoy a wee snifter tomorrow.

    He deserves one.

Being Scottish I assume you will all chip in to buy him ONE.

  17. Good morning CQN from a beautiful sunny Garngad

Good luck to all in the CQN golf tourney.

Celtic, there should be nothing further to discuss with Turnbull, he either signs or doesn’t. Do not be strung along further by his greedy agent.

    D. :)

  18. Best of luck to all the golfers at Aberdour today.

I can’t make it this year , having to make do with lilo golf by the Aegean.

BlantyreKev and Taggsybhoy put on a grand show every year showing what CQN can be about, raising money for good causes.

I hope Johnnybhoy makes it for the prizegiving, as his own inimitable style creates a superb atmosphere.

Best of luck to Gerry M, hope you’re in the running.

BJMac to charm the scratch prizes and how lucky are all attending to be in the company of Danny McGrain.

I wonder if Paul67 will have any information about possible transfer issues.
