Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

  1. The challenge on Commons should have drawn a yellow, not that stupid supposed handball.

Should Kris have been playing given his importance?

  2. H-T 1-0 to the Celts

Celtic playing good football in the heat. But Dynamo’s direct style has caused us problems, especially on Celtic’s left side.

    KC off injured.

    Craig Gordon has been good.

  3. Tricoloured Ribbon on

Celtic playing well against a decent looking team, but the injury to Commons a big concern.

Biton and Kayal combining well in midfield, but we have been left very exposed when they attack on the right.

  4. Great Game.. Ah am enjoyin it. Dresden ur No Mugs.. that’s fur Sure.

  5. Good game. Gordon has done very well, my stand out man of the half Callum McGregor, we could have a right one in this lad. Sad to see Kris getting the treatment in a friendly. I’d say his substitution was more precautionary, well I hope so anyway.

Dinamo should be level ,but good game and plenty chances

for both sides .C G done well with the saves made and defence

Backed him up , especially AM . hopefully KC injury not serious

  7. Thunder Road on

This has been a much harder match than our qualifier and we are doing well.

    Great workout so far.

Wee reminder needed that Dresden are in Division Three, and Celtic need to tighten up at the back even with the fringe players included.

  9. The Left Winger of Dresden

    bsr,

Just shows the quality of German football

Twardzik and McGeough are not doing enough to impress here. This should be a big season for both of them. Dylan seems content to hug the right hand touchline. He should be looking for the ball more often. Twardzik looks lethargic and needs to be more alert to what’s going on around him. The defence have done well to keep a clean sheet with Gordon making some good early saves and others defending the 6 yard box well but Germans have missed a couple of sitters.

Pukki started well and set up KC’s goal but has faded. Biton and Kayal doing a good job in midfield and Efe and Virgil doing OK in defence. The Germans dominated in the last 10 – 15 minutes of the half and should have at least equalised. Hope Kris is not seriously injured but the German player kicked through his Achilles from behind. It looked sore.

The analysis of some players just shows how we all see it so different.

For me oor number 33 is a liability.

Poor distribution goin forward, poor decision making on a regular basis,

and kamikaze when defending.Mon the Hoops

  13. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    Biggest danger is the referree.

Has let some stuff go, but penalised us for invisible infringements.

Next danger is the lack of defensive cover for the left back.

Not too worried as it must alsobe obvious to the manager.

Concern over Commons. Hopefully it’s not a muscle pull or ligament.

Kris looks like the natural captain for Deila’s style, no disrespect to Scott Brown, who, perhaps more epitomised Lennon and Strachan’s philosophy.

Enjoyable game with some intelligent stuff coming from midfield.

Efe defends his six yard box well on the ground.

Keeper playing himself in and appears to be vocal with huns defence.

    syd negakev

    To me…..yeah.

Big player for us and 1 thing that kinda annoyed me about Neil was when he gave the guys on the fringes game time…..without many of the big players and then we it was all a bit chaotic because there was not much of a foundation for the fringe players to establish themselves on.

In saying that though…….lots of guys playing together for the 1st time today!

If the kris Achilles tackle was serious he would not have walked off

  16. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Lot of changes for second half. See Derk, o’Connell, griffiths and more.

  17. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Good ball in from Charlie but Derk heads over. Lustig also on. Commentator is a bit slow.
