Blood on the brogues

1366

The resignation of Charles Green from his post as Rangers International chief executive last month was more curious for what it wasn’t – a resignation from the board.  Green retained his position as a director of the club.  This was always likely to have consequences.

BBC report this morning that club chairman, Malcolm Murray, who media outlets loyal to Green reported innuendo against earlier this year, in what was viewed as an attempt to discredit and ultimately remove him, yesterday lost a vote of confidence at a board meeting.

I am certain the vote of confidence was called by Murray himself after he informed the board, including Charles Green, of how he intends to deal with the important matters surrounding the club at this time.  In particular, what he plans to do with information received from Pinsent Masons and forensic accountants from Deloitte.  The investigation underway by Pinsents and Deloittes is only taking place at the insistence of Murray.

The innuendo against Murray was inappropriate and part of a dirty tricks campaign against the man by those who do not have Rangers best interests at heart [the irony is searing].  The normal reaction to losing a vote of confidence is to resign and let your opponents deal with the consequences of their actions.  Murray may feel he has done all he can for the club (or company, if that is how some would like to start calling the entity now). Those who invested in Craig Whyte’s various claims last month will enormously encouraged.

On Friday I’ll be joined by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville at the Columba Club, Blantyre, for what is certain to be an enjoyable Question and Answer event.  Tickets, £5 each, for the Columba Charitable Fund, are available at the door.  I’m really looking forward to it.  See you there.

    Press release from SPL

Press Release ~ SPL Clubs agree change

At an all-club meeting earlier today at Hampden Park, the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs unanimously agreed on a package of measures that would deliver a merged league in time for season 2013/2014.

    The principles include:

    – a single merged league of 42 clubs, in line with the stated preference of SFL1 clubs

    – a 12-10-10-10 divisional structure

    – an all-through distribution model involving substantial redistribution to the second tier

    – a ‘pyramid’ for the entire game

    – play-offs involving team 11 in the SPL and teams 2, 3 and 4 in the division below

A formal proposal to deliver the above will be brought back to the SPL clubs for voting this month.

The SPL looks forward to working with the Scottish FA and Scottish Football League to deliver vibrant change for the game as a whole.

Chairman Ralph Topping commented: “I am pleased that SPL clubs have today agreed on a way forward for the game in this country. We have tremendous sympathy with the SFL1 clubs and their plight and with their shared ambition for a 42-club solution.

“Much work needs to be done in a short space of time to achieve our objective of a single merged league this summer. But, where there is a will, there is a way. The time for action is now.”

  3. Bravery is not just physical. Standing up for what is right, even though your name will be taken and you will be castigated and thrown aside takes huge amounts of bravery. This is usually because it affects family, friends et al and not just the person involved. When you look at the list of “whistleblowers” and their treatment and buy-offs, you realise why people opt for the quiet life. The Scottish MSM are aware of sites like this and only for these sites we would be mushrooms. Again, I can’t think of a single pundit or journalist whose opinion I would value in Scotland, and that is right across the spectrum. A pack of hyenas and jackals, as witness the attempted persecution of NFL. I don’t use that word lightly, for that is what it is. St John Doyle posts on here and as a politico of whatever persuasion or position, he has an insight as to how dirty the game can be. Fortunately, sometimes the good guys win, and usually because the other lot are so busy double-crossing and back-stabbing they finish up killing themselves.

I’ve been singing this ever since.

Buckets of rain, buckets of tears Got all them buckets comin’ out of my ears Buckets of moonbeams in my hand You got all the love, honey baby I can stand

I been meek, and hard like an oak I seen pretty people disappear like smoke Friends will arrive, friends will disappear If you want me, honey baby I’ll be here

Like your smile, and your fingertips Like the way that you move your hips I like the cool way you look at me Everything about you is bringing me Misery

Little red wagon, little red bike I ain’t no monkey but I know what I like I like the way you love me strong and slow I’m takin’ you with me, honey baby When I go

Life is sad, life is a bust All ya can do is do what you must You do what you must do and ya do it well I’ll do it for you, honey baby Can’t you tell?

    Co-written by SDM of course.

Can’t stop laughing ‏@corsica1968 23s @rfc_dickson Come on Andrew, read my blog. I allow for that but at 73%??? It’d be good to get clarity on actual costs, no?

@rfc_dickson PS: Having a legitimate interest in a corporation scamming charity is not causing trouble. It’s called public concern.

@rfc_dickson You don’t think it worth comment that only £75k was donated to charity from charity game that took in c£350k? Even to clarify?

@rfc_dickson Is that the same for my previous tweet to you? Shame; you usually don’t have much difficulty making comment.

    Meeting to go to.

I’ll expect in depth analysis if the story breaks before I get back. Or lots and lots of laughter and Jelly & Ice Cream.

  11. Exiled Tim agree, with so little change why bother.

Its a complete demolition of the sfa and its refereeing …… erm fraternity that’s required, a wee bit of Governance wouldn’t go amiss as well.

The entire surroundings of the deal with RFC was hilarious for me as a working class Celtic supporter from the East End.

I had the beauty of being in a strong position but the threats by SDM were designed to undermine my chances of ever being elected again I did the right thing and demanded my conditions were met before any deal the result was no deal.

I was prepared for the electoral consequences of that I did the right thing for the Council that was what I was there for, turned out I still got elected.

I really don’t like bullies the way SDM treated Bain and others in front of us was embarrassing but very enjoyable.

  13. Snake Plissken on

Well lets all be honest whatever the reconstruction it wouldn’t affect us in terms of who we played unless Sevco (stop laughing) were fast tracked.

What these proposals do is give competition and leaves us in a situation where a Dundee being isolated from the 11 above them isn’t the final action of the bottom 6 and it opens the door for Div 1 clubs to have a meaningful end of the season if they are in 4th, 3rd or 2nd place in the league.

We’ve needed playoffs for ages and we’ve got them back. There will be full houses and a possible Play off final where gate money can be shared well among those clubs.

So long as the Sevco band wagon is grinding to its halt the rest of it is positive.

I’d have preferred the 12-12-18 but if this is it then so be it so long as we don’t face the orcs any time soon barring the hot balls in the Scottish cup draw.

  14. Vmhan

I’m really not so bothered about the governance, that will take care of itself.

The referees are the problem, sort that and they are well and truely doomed.

I can’t understand the lack of will to fix this.

  15. I think this reconstruction is a case of lining up the balls. More radical change will take place when the fast track issue is no longer on the table.

  16. Got my renewal forms in today. Adult and under 16 package….£77 reduction .

What happened to the £100 off an adult ticket?

This means l get less of a reduction because l take my kid. While he guy sitting next to me gets the full whack.

Don’t get me wrong delighted to see the club make reductions but this doesn’t seem fair . Thought they wanted kids to go.

  17. More radical change should also be easier to achieve with a single organisation… albeit there will be some kind of voting structure? Presumably the SFL need to agree on this now as well?

I see the newhuns are every bit as bad as the old huns when it comes to passing money raised for charity.

Anyone remember the sold-out signs at Ibrox for an us and them legends game a few years ago?

    Tenner a ticket,£50,000 to charity.

Minty underwrote the event for that sum,and pocketed the difference.

Shocking, and even worse that no-one in the press pursued it.

You would be best contacting the ticket office to find out the breakdown of prices. It may be that your ticket went down in price but the one for the U16 went up, but that is just speculation on my part.

Ticket office usually very good and should get be able to provide you with the reason behind the change.

  21. Alex Thomson is saying he is trying to break a story about Sevco but whether its huge or not is for others to decide. I assume he needs clearance from the Legal Eagles before he goes public on what he has.

  22. Steinreignedsupreme on

I’m looking forward to Zombie Graham leading his merry band of dimwits on Alex Thomson’s twitter page later.

  23. So league reconstruction goes ahead but still keeps the ludicrous SPL split after playing each other 3 times. A continuation of teams playing more home games than away games (& vice versa) and teams playing 3 away games & 1 home game (& vice versa)against each other.

Why not get rid of the split and go back to 44 league games (we did it from 2 seasons from 86 to 88 & 3 seasons from 91 to 94), they keep saying they need the games to generate cash so increase the number of games.

  24. league reconstruction:

12-10-10-10 with play-off from second tier to premier is good for 2,3 and 4th, one governing body and fairer distribution of finances is also good for the game overall.

but why not have 10 and 11 from spl play-off against each other with the loser playing the winners of the 1st division play-offs, surely that would generate bigger rewards (income), excitement for the clubs?

    demolishment of London road school:

good thing, hope celtic use the money gained from C/L this season to get first phase i.e. walkway (avenue of hero’s and museum etc… built before commonwealth games.

p.s. Scottish heritage cannot veto plans now that council have agreed, GCC have satisfied the criteria and notified Scottish heritage. so there should be no delays

  25. They should also introduce a play off between teams from 3rd to 6th for the 3rd Europa League place. Champions into CL, second and cup winners into EL, play off for final EL place.
