Blood on the brogues

The resignation of Charles Green from his post as Rangers International chief executive last month was more curious for what it wasn’t – a resignation from the board.  Green retained his position as a director of the club.  This was always likely to have consequences.

BBC report this morning that club chairman, Malcolm Murray, who media outlets loyal to Green reported innuendo against earlier this year, in what was viewed as an attempt to discredit and ultimately remove him, yesterday lost a vote of confidence at a board meeting.

I am certain the vote of confidence was called by Murray himself after he informed the board, including Charles Green, of how he intends to deal with the important matters surrounding the club at this time.  In particular, what he plans to do with information received from Pinsent Masons and forensic accountants from Deloitte.  The investigation underway by Pinsents and Deloittes is only taking place at the insistence of Murray.

The innuendo against Murray was inappropriate and part of a dirty tricks campaign against the man by those who do not have Rangers best interests at heart [the irony is searing].  The normal reaction to losing a vote of confidence is to resign and let your opponents deal with the consequences of their actions.  Murray may feel he has done all he can for the club (or company, if that is how some would like to start calling the entity now). Those who invested in Craig Whyte’s various claims last month will enormously encouraged.

On Friday I’ll be joined by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville at the Columba Club, Blantyre, for what is certain to be an enjoyable Question and Answer event.  Tickets, £5 each, for the Columba Charitable Fund, are available at the door.  I’m really looking forward to it.  See you there.

This probably wont help you but Im just back from Celtic Park paying the £50 for my nephews first ever season book.

The wife and I had to move from the seats we’ve had since the 90’s. Where we moved to had an empty seat next to us so we took it for our nephew.

Our new seats are the same price as our old seats and we got the £100 off both.

Also our nephew used to support the dead club until they died, and even at 10 he knows they died, now he is Celtic daft.

His 6 year old brother is a sevconian, like his father, but Im sure once he see’s his big brother with a season book he’ll want saved aswell ;)

I’ve known Jim Murphy for as long as I care to remember. Sat beside each other behind the goals for a few seasons. Very much a Celtic man but I couldnae talk to him any more when in an after match pint (he was drinking Irn Bru) he tried to convince me Tony Blair was a socialist. Nearly choked on my Irish stout.

  7. Club gets green light to transform Celtic Park

By: Newsroom Staff on 07 May, 2013 15:55

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce today that Glasgow City Council has passed a Celtic planning proposal which will see the transformation of Celtic Park.

Following today’s decision, the first phase of development will see the creation of a new public realm area, dramatically changing Celtic Park. The development will provide a new pedestrian avenue leading to the stadium for supporters, a new attractive public space, and the whole area leading to the stadium will be fully landscaped, providing an approach to Celtic Park which is befitting of one of the world’s great football arenas.

Work will now begin on putting contracts in place and it is hoped that the first phase of the development will be completed in time for the start of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The completion of further phases of development will also see a range of additional facilities around the stadium.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “This really is fantastic news for the club and is something which will allow us to completely transform Celtic Park, providing a stunning new public realm area for the benefit of our supporters.

“For so many years Celtic has been a fundamental part of the East End of Glasgow – this development represents real positive regeneration of the East End, something to which we are totally committed.

“The club is in great shape on and off the field and today’s news allows us to build on these strong foundations and take the club forward once again.

“We have enjoyed a fantastic 125th anniversary season, delivering success to our fans and making a real impression across European football.

“Today’s announcement lets us build on this great season. It means we can look ahead to more exciting times for Celtic and our supporters as we continue to progress the club in the right direction and show that Celtic continues to be one of the world’s leading football clubs.”

    love it

Not that I flounced off but for some time busy with the second project for the Russian manager from big petrochemical company there. Things go faster for me and I hope the guy will keep the promise about new job valid. Will know that in two weeks I guess. I come here to see what is the news and see what was written under this and previous article. Some wishes in Polish. Wow ! Really nice from you all. Can I start posting in Polish?

When I come back in the evening I tell you few words about Aiden’s situation in Spartak. I read the article about him in the Scottish press but will try to put brighter picture on McGeady.

Will be back in the afternoon.

  11. The introduction of play offs is ridiculous. All it is doing is giving the stronger side (SPL) another bite at staying in the top league.

Have 2 up, 2 down or don’t bother at all.

The SPL couldn’t run a bath.

I asked the same question a couple of months ago after the Scottish Main burst it did massive damage.

Scottish Water are trying to get GCC or the Govt to pay a contribution when it is totally SW’s fault they are hoping that because of the timescales someone else will step in and help with costs. The burst has washed away a lot of the sub-structures foundations spreading way beyond the original burst site.

The whole area will need substantial re-grouting and cubes and cubes of concrete poured in and hope it hits the bottom and not a mine-shaft or it will be shut for a long time.

Imagine puttin’ a First Holy Communion before the chance to see the ole Celts mark their achievement by the approved 5-0.

  16. Great news on the ole Triangle:) Can’t wait to see that take shape.

Apposite timing in that David Conn in today’s Guardian has a lengthy piece on the subterfuge and underhand dealings engaged in by Liverpool FC in buying up, and leaving derelict, the area around their ground to make way for future developments.

Stayed in Anfield for a night last November…was taken aback at the neglect. Had assumed it was another fail on the part of the New Labour Pathfinder project.

Liverpool fans have had a lot of campaigning to do on an other issue these last few years, and clearly had a solemn duty to focus on that.

Still shocked to read the extent of the club’s dealings, and the manner which they ‘engaged’ with the local community.

    According to BBC

“The SPL also wants to introduce play-offs involving the team finishing 11th and teams second, third and fourth in the league below.”

Just seen this statement on KDS who could work at Ibrox that would eat all the pies!!!!!!!

    http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/3930-statement-from-azure?

ON behalf of our client, Rangers Football Club, Azure Support Services would like to apologise to fans who attended the Manchester United Legends game on 6th May for the shortage of hot food at half time.

This came about as a result of a higher than expected attendance at the game. We had not correctly anticipated the numbers attending this event and more than 23000 fans arrived to cheer on the two teams.

Over the course of the season, we have served in excess of 800,000 fans, using some of the most modern retail facilities in UK stadia as a result of a recent refurbishment of the catering facilities.

We will learn from this experience to ensure there is no future recurrence and that the loyal Rangers fans receive the very best service when they visit Ibrox Stadium. Again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters who attended the game.
