Bobby and Tommy, men with established priorities

412

You are going to read lots about Tommy Burns, who we lost 10 years ago today, and Bobby Murdoch, the first of the Lions to go, on this date in 2001, so I’ll share an observation on both.

Tommy’s coffin was carried into the church by Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.  Tommy had lots of friends, former team-mates and players, as well as a large family.  There was no shortage of candidates to carry the man’s mortal remains, but in extending the invitation to Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, he left you and me something to live up to.

There can be few more public expressions of an intimate invitation.  How well do you and I reach across the city to others?  I have considered that question, on and off, for almost 10 years.

The only time I met Bobby Murdoch he went straight to asking me what I did for a living.  Then he talked about his wife, Kathleen, and her job.  There were a dozen others in the room, nine of whom were Lisbon Lions, but that was what Bobby wanted to talk about.  His priorities were well established.

I tend to agree with you and Supersutton that this all seems a bit scripted… put a nice bow on things, and move on.

It has always been my belief that a similar deal was in place between all the players since the 5WA. However, I dont think anyone counted on the zombies playing silly bugger they way they have.

As counsel, one of the things I tell clients is that ‘if you are in a hole, stop digging.’ It seems that no one has ever told the zombies that. They now seem to be making a full time job of making a mess of things.

so, even if the scope of these new charges is limited, I would not put it past the zombies to blow it up into something more more than it was or needed to be.

Hail Hail to Canamalar and the Bhoys, the four Horsemen of the Zombie Apocalypse. Cyber pint from me to you all. So where to now? Well there will be a lot of obfuscation, squealing, whataboutary and finger pointing. Will justice be done?, probably not.

The big change today though, is that SFA Favouring one club, and that one club cheating, will now be a matter of public record, for evermore. Now a wee statement from the Celtic Board, and a few… ahem… retirals and this will have been some week.

Oh, and there’s a Hextuple coming down the track.

I must say I had a laugh out loud moment at the story earlier about BM’s wife… and how she knew he was a Catholic (the shoes curled up from kneeling at mass).

that story reminded me of my old grandad …

he used to say something similar … you could tell the catholic boys by looking at their trousers …. the knees on the trousers (often hand me downs) were shiny or patched from kneeling down to say their prayers …

Here’s a question….if there was wrongdoing by the SFA and/or Rangers 1872…do Celtic shareholders have grounds for civil action regardless of what Sevco/SFA now do or say?

Remembering Bobby Murdoch, I recall a friendly vs Man Utd very shortly after Bobby passed away. We lost 0-1, Henrik hit the bar after a fantastic move, the stadium was packed.

But what I remember most of all was the minute’s silence in memory of Bobby before the game. In a crowd that size, it was absolutely silent until, on 57 seconds, someone shouted ‘God bless him!’ It rang out clear as a bell in that massive stadium. I will never forget that moment, such an expression of love and loss. It moves me to think about it, even now. I shed a tear then, indeed plenty of tears.

    What a player.

  20. I’m sure the meeja will be chasing the SFA for some comment and the odd answer…

I’m sure the meeja will be asking renta-gub hundits for their reactions……..I’m sure………

  21. Big cup winners. Yeah today is about 2 Celtic greats. I should have acknowledged that. God bless them both. But for me Gerry mcculloch ridiculed Celtic fans trying to make valid points on Clyde regarding the cheating. So for me he is a souptaker. Mark Wilson is now a hoops hero I see. Obviously stick up for ur friends I understand that. But my opinion won’t change. God bless Celtic. Get it round those 2

  22. Well done the guys that got off their arse and tried to hold those that govern our game to account. Even if it comes to nought, you should be proud of your efforts.

  23. !!Bada Bing!! on

They could have put The Tommy Burns Mass on CTV or the club’s youtube channel….

  24. Big Thank you due to the Resoloution 12 ghuys, however not trying to spoil the party but with the statement put out are we any further forward ? Old Rangers was nt the main target it was the cheating colluding SFA. My reading of it all is that its old rangers to blame ( no shit Sherlock ) and nowt to do with us the nice SFA guys !!! This is about the SFA and to me they are happy for old rangers to take the blame as theres no real punishment yo can give them as they dont exist. We need the Ogilvies and the Brysons of the world in the dock before we can even dream about a clean game

  25. In order of importance:-

    1) Any news on Lionsroar? Please keep us informed that Stage 1 has gone well

    2) Well done to canamalar, who was angry and determined enough to make things happen.

Well done to Morrisey who did so much of the legwork and was shamelessly treated by some at Celtic because of this.

Well done to Auldheid for his persistance and near saintly patience.

And well done to all who supported, BRT &H, TBB and steinreignedsupreme and others, not yet named.

They have all finally pushed this boulder to the official bodies who were ignoring its approach and hoping it would roll away, disintegrate or get parked as the pushers grew tired.

I hope that justice is done both to the dead club’s officials at the time and to those at the SFA who colluded with them. I still have hope amidst my scepticism.

How can you charge Rainjurz when they’re deid – where would the SFA start?

The SFA have charged Sevco because they agreed that all ‘football’ related debts, claims etc, would be

    met by them.

Hence why they suddenly begin their rebuttal statement with:

‘The Rangers FC and not Rangers FC like what they normally do?

Same club for the history, new Club for any debt, fines, yada yada yada
