Bogus issues and a Good Old Celtic debate

1020

I’ve not spent a lot of time online this week (work sometimes creeps in) but can’t believe the amount of traction that notion that Sevco would somehow be able to acquire SFA membership of a dead club, with all associated benefits, but be in a position to dictate set terms on how past misdeeds of Rangers would be recorded.

This is a bogus debate which serves only to deflect from the more serious issues facing Sevco, namely, do they have circa £25m to pay their way this season?  If not, their pedantic views of disciplinary matters are moot, although they may be used as a principled excuse to fold a football club.

On more positive matters……….

Tony Hamilton asked me into the Celtic TV to discuss various issues surrounding the club.  We spoke about how recent events elsewhere have had a galvanising impact on supporters of Celtic and other clubs, where Celtic’s future should be.  I also gave a breakdown of what the death of Rangers would mean financially to Celtic, with or without Champions League group stage qualification, talked about how it would benefit the entire Scottish game if we found a new league to play in, and the great atmosphere we have at Celtic Park these days – which you can experience if you buy a season ticket, which you absolutely-without-a-doubt-should!

Do it now.  The video is below:

paolosboots – Fair point but how much money does he need

    Daft question.

My answer would be: all the money.

    Consider yourself an internet bampot

i was wondering who had deemed Greene as a fit and proper person, and what business plan has he presented to make up for the proposed 25 million quid shortfall

lets have a sweep to see when the MSM will take up the subject of the shortfall and the next insolvency event

i say it will be about 1 week before the insolvency event actually happens, and even then the MSM journo who breaks ranks will be deemed the usual fenian this and that

I think Tony H may have made a big mistake by inviting you on to CTV! You were/are very articulate, nay eloquent, to such an extent that he may have done himself out of a job! Is a swap deal on the cards?! You for CTV and Tony for CQN?! Well, I hope not! Your place is here, Paul, and I hope it will be for some time to come!

The job of Celtic CEO can wait for a few more years, until the day big Peter resigns or is shown the door! I can just picture you rubbing shoulders with DD, Ian Livingston, and others, in the director’s box and boardroom, dressed in your Saville Row suit, silk shirt, club tie and shiny brogues!!!

Ok, on a serious note now: enjoyed the interview very much, and hearing your views! Keep up the great work!

Can you explain to the less well informed of us how Celtic’s peak Debt of £35 million pounds relates to the accounts showing a debt of about £7 million?

  7. paolosboots: “we were 45minutes away from chaos last season”.

It all depends on how you view things.

We were a last minute goal from qualifying in second place from the toughest Europa League group; second only to the eventual winners of the trophy. We won the SPL comfortably in spite of the position we were in prior to the 45 minutes you mentioned, and we reached both domestic cup finals. All in all it was a fairly decent season. Hopefully this season we will repeat our SPL success and go (at least) one better in all the cup competitions (domestic & European)..

  8. philvisreturns. yes you’re probably right, but I would like to see value for money in these austere times and with 9+players off the wages, £30+ to the price of a season book, ( yet no games against peepil ) nice trips to USA, Ajax bringing in a few quid why cant we get a quality c/h to improve our chances of getting into cl group stage?

I suppose he should slick his hair back and take to chasing young women down the street, shouting “bella, bella!”, as well.

Charlie Nicholas says Rangers going into a liquificator is a bad day for Scotlish football

  12. BigChipsUK, i hope so too, but there’s alot we can do to help ourselves. If it wasn’t for Sion being disqualified we wouldn’t have had some good euro nights last season as we weren’t good enough to qualify for group el on our own merits. This was fortunate as i felt it galvanised and fortified the team last year and was the building block we required. I don’t think we should want to leave things to chance again this year.

“we’ve required 1/2 centre halves for a number of seasons but no sign of any”

I don’t think that’s fair commen. In past couple of seasons we’ve brought in Wilson, Rogne, Big Dan, the polish lad who go injured and Wanyama who was definintely touted as a Defender/midfielder on signing. That they’ve work out or not is a different matter and one of opinion but there have certainly been signs of centre halves and we’ve set clean sheet records in each of the last 2 seasons

  16. Might put a spanner in the works of the Sevco Masterplan and their dodgy agents…

UEFA have tightened their rules on third-party ownership of players after pressure from the Premier League and Ligue 1.

England and France are currently the only countries who ban the practise and they joined forces last year to lobby UEFA amid fears clubs from other European nations could use it to circumvent Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

UEFA have not gone as far as outlawing third-party ownership but they have closed a potential loophole by stating teams cannot use money gained from selling stakes in players to balance their books for FFP purposes.

Clubs must also formally declare any split in a player’s economic rights. That should remove any potential advantage the rivals of English and French clubs might have had.

FFP was established to prevent teams spending more than they earn and thereby limit the chances of them going bust as well as creating a more level playing field.

I am rather offended by your stereotypical portrayal of ‘Italians!’ We don’t all have slicked-back hair and chase young women down the street! Indeed, some of us are bald and can only manage to walk(quite slowly in some cases), after slightly older women!

Usual standard ie. excellent stuff! You were doing so well until the second last paragraph when you said:

“History will show that the footballing authorities in Scotland were duped, deceived and or used by Rangers Football club and its officials for the better part of two decades. The same football authorities cannot afford to be so used ,duped and deceived again by the same people hiding in the shadows.”

OK I know you were doing the old tongue-in-cheek routine, but really, who on this site would think for a minute that the ‘footballing authorities in Scotland’ would EVER be duped by Rangers or their ilk?

  22. Kilmarnock fans can expect a phone call from their own manager or players this week, as the club bids to persuade more supporters to buy season tickets.

In an unusual step by the Ayrshire club, boss Kenny Shiels and skipper Manuel Pascali will take to the phone lines to tell fans who have yet to part with their cash for a seat at Rugby Park to get behind Killie this season.

Other members of the first team will also be making calls as the club bids to attract a big following for the campaign ahead.

If Sevco follow suit can you just imagine the phone bill!
