Bolstering the attack quickish

769

With 26 career goals, 25 of which came in a Dundee United shirt, £1.5m sounds a tad generous for Nadir Ciftci.  Celtic’s earlier offer of £900k sounds more like the mark but Wigan have validated United’s target price with a deal with meets their requirements, if not that of the player’s.

Is he a player to improve Celtic?  Quite possibly, he’ll bring something we don’t have at the moment – a sticky out ball – but it’s a big ask to expect him to step up to Champions League levels.  Signing that level of player might take Champions League money, but we’ll need to get there first, which is why we need to bolster the attack quickish.

Two years ago we talked about the number of senior games a good player is able to make before he’s noticed by those to rich and lazy to do as much low-level research Celtic must do to unearth a gem.

Victor Wanyama made 51 appearances before becoming a Celtic player, Virgil van Dijk made 62.  It’s likely both spent the bulk of those games without anyone paying much attention to them, Celtic’s scouts are likely to have been alerted when they have little more than a dozen or so games left at their previous clubs.

Ciftci’s made 67 senior appearances.  If he has what it takes, the world will know about it sooner rather than later.

  1. Does anybody know, if, with the current state of financial and corporate affairs at Ibrox, would The Rangers meet the required criteria of the National Club Licence required for entry into the SPL?

From what I garner, even if they romped the league, all things corporate remaining the same, then they would not meet the requirement and hence be held in limbo.

Then wee Sandy Bryson goes into the ‘fix it’ mode. The corruption would continue.

Well if he passes his medical and agrees terms Cifti will be a Celtic player before the end of the week.I think the player could very well surprise a lot of Celtic supporters as he is big strong he can hold onto the ball and he is aggresive I believe he will score a lot of goals for us we just need to give him the one thing we dont have a lot of that is time to get fit and to get used to Ronnys system.I believe apart from a left back that is our signings for this window finished however,we may find at least another two players leaving the club.H.H.

  6. So cifcti it is then, can’t say I’m over the moon but now that he’s one of ours I’ll back him to the hilt

We probably won’t see him till Halloween with the ban he’s going to get now

So Ciftci (CF) and Logan (GK) could be signed before Thursday 11pm CL deadline. Add a LB and we should have enough for CL group stages.

Pity Virgil would be suspended for first leg v Stjarnan next Wednesday (Inter red card).

Also a LB would be handy as Izzy is suspended for next SPFL game (according to SFA) – that’s Flag Day at home to Ross County.

  9. He will get 7 or 8 games and he will deserve it.

Hopefully we can teach him discipline like we did with Leigh Griffiths. It was pretty straight forward with Leigh, you give him a tunnocks teacake for being a good boy!

  14. Jamesgang – berget. Worst I have ever seen in the hoops. His whirlwind start in that game fooled a lot of us.

Probably not a bad player but not one who could handle being a Celtic player.

I liked the look of Berget v DU first game of the season too.

    Hahahaha

I honestly don;t think he is much different from Ciftci. Play that guy up fornt every week for Dundee United and give him the ball he would score goals.

Hopefully Ciftci will look a better player in the Hoops though.

  17. I thought Berget was alright. He had a horror show when we threw him in the deep end in Warsaw. I don’t think he had even trained with his teammates. He scored a couple goals in the league but never really had a chance after that.

I feel sorry for the lad. I think it was more of a failing by Ronny.

LB – Also last day ‘wild card’ available …

43.08 For the three qualifying rounds and the play-offs, a club may register a maximum of one new eligible player on List A after the above-mentioned deadlines, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected.

Such registration must be completed by 24.00CET on the day before the relevant first-leg match and the club’s association must confirm in writing that the new player is eligible to play at domestic level at this time.

I have always hated being forced to sit at football matches.

I have the three-match package for the pre-season games at Paisley – I am in a shit seat behind the goal in the South Stand – the view is pure pish.

On the general point of seats – having to get up and let people going for cokes and grub every five minutes is the biggest PITA.

In the days of standing, people came and went, and never bothered anybody, even those with big fat arses could slip in and out without ‘paintbrushing’ twenty others on the way out and then again in the way in.

I don’t go to cinemas for the same reason.

I will gladly bin my seat when the SSA comes in – people with big arses should be banned from seated public events.

  27. As a signing Cifti probably represents the level that Celtic operate at.

Given the potential suspension scenario we could have mirror image of last season with Guidetti where we had a player available domestiically but not in Europe. This year Cifti will be ok for Europe but banned domestically.
