Boyata transformation is beyond belief

840

When we signed Dedryck Boyata, while simultaneously losing loanee Jason Denayer, I heard that bullish comment from Celtic Park “We made Denayer into a regular Belgian international and we’ll do the same for Boyata.”

Teenage Jason Denayer was part of a record-breaking Celtic central defence.  Fast and skilful, there was little chance parent club Manchester City would allow him to extend his stay in Scotland.  Dedryck was older, had played less football, and City allowed him to leave for £1.5m.  The claim that we could make him into a Belgium regular seemed fanciful.

Belgium are the top team in the Fifa rankings.  Getting anywhere near this squad is an achievement, but Dedryck is now a regular fixture.  When Jason Denayer made a late entrance in the game against Iceland last night, it was captain, Vincent Kompany he replaced, not the Celtic central defender.

Dedryck has only been at Celtic three years and the early months of his time here were memorable for an own goal against Malmo and a very poor performance away to Molde.  His transformation is beyond belief.

Lifetime ban McGregor playing again. I’m beginning to think that the “lifetime” part must refer to the club he played for when he got the ban!

Isn’t the, way, yes I’ve been to the Auchengarrich wildlife centre.

However!!! I’ve not done the walk up Canada wood, the usual, ignoring what’s on your doorstep.

Sorry for getting slightly mixed up earlier, hopefully I didn’t confuse you too much.

The wee dog we walked today was a poor soul but seemed happy enough.

It was old and had a bad back leg. You wonder what happens that they end up in a rescue centre.

    Hail Hail

3 Celts in the starting line up – Callum, Jamesie and Ryan.

2 on the bench – Scott and Jack

2 former Celts to start – Stuart and Andy*

1 recent Celt on the bench – Gary

Scotland at minus 1 – 9/2. More sensible, attractive bet – 3 or more goals in the game, a generous 13/8.

    Can’t wait!

There is clearly a problem of why some players don’t want to be considered, but that is for further down the line and Alex has also been unlucky with injuries.

This is as low as I can remember. I think there is a real lethargy in the whole country about the national team.

If we can’t top a three-country group with Albania and Israel in it, where are we going? We are going massively backwards and it would be embarrassing.

Albania ranked 60 in the world, Israel 91. If we don’t come out of this group, pull the shutters down.

Jeezo B.P. It’s amazing how much has changed in ,relatively speaking, such a,short period of time.

Yes, they are ground nesting birds, so could well have been.

You would get the jail for it now though.

  8. Macjay1 –

For me it’s quite simple. I’m Scottish. I support Scotland the team. I also have a tendency to hope that all Scottish sportsmen – golfers, runners, cyclists, etc do well. I have the same feelings as most on here with regard to the SFA and perhaps even their current choice of manager. Somehow I’m comfortable and at peace in my own mind that I still want the team to win every time they take to the park.

Doesn’t bother me that there are only a handful of CQNrs that support Scotland. The ones who are disinterested I can understand. Those who actually hope that Scotland get gubbed confuse me.

    Teams are oot……laters…

  9. Big Packy,

From a few weeks ago you asked me if the Brennan teaching French in St.. Pats Coatbridge was a relation of mine. Well no he wasn’t a relation.

In the past I have had a few teachers in my family. both Primary and High School teachers.

My uncle Jim taught at OLHS Motherwell and then at Elwood Senior Secondary Bothwell before moving down the coast to Greenock as a Rector.

My aunt Veronica also taught at Elwood and then Holy Cross Hamilton.

i had a few aunts teaching at Primary schools from Glasgow to central Lanarkshire.HH from Martin42

Virtually the same attitude as me.

Scotland , as a country , has achieved much to be proud of.

    Punched well above its weight.

The other aspects? Every country has people , aspects and attitudes to be ashamed of.

    Every country.

  11. MARTIN42 thanks for that it was actually st augustines in Coatbridge no time for them ghuys like john reid who went to st pats.???.hh.

  12. I’m 100% Scottish to my core, and I would love for any team Scotland to do well. BUT, until the establishment that is Scottish football eliminate (for good) the anti Celtic merde, which has been around , probably for centuries, not decades, I will forever want the football team to perish. It really saddens me to be of that stance, but i’m hacked off being treated in this way. So I say, to hell with them and their bigotry , be it on their own heads. Until that happens, not holding my breath by the way, I hope Scotland football team get stuffed , every game.

What I want to , and should happen, never will, what a state of affairs that these bigots have won. They are rottten to the very core

I played against Saint Pat’s Coatbridge for Saint Tam’s Jordanhill. I was centre mid against a certain Peter Grant. Never played against a dirtier player. Have never liked him.

    Crackin goal Ryan Fraser.

  15. Watched a wee bit of mikael playing for Sweden earlier but won’t be watching our boys turn out for anti Celtic SFA.

Just hope they don’t get injured and return to the club save and sound.

  16. DELANEYS DUNKY, hi pal dont forget I went to the best school in Coatbridge st augustines.???.hh.

  17. Jobo / Macjay

I’m in your camp re Scotland. No matter how much evidence there is to dislike the SFA and historical poor treatment of Celtic players my natural instinct is to support them.

    It’s a heart/head thing.

  18. Who ever played against Peter the pointer must have had a smoke and listened to a few Rebs on the jukebox ?Eh?

  19. Kinglubo I echo your sentiments re Scotland.

For anyone who is confused as to why, I pay my tax, McLeish done tax avoidance along with many others by the way, but he should not be anywhere near the Scottish national team, a job for the boys. A crook, a Bigfoot and a cheat… And people ask why some people want scotland to get beat…

My heart is supporting the country of my birth here. The amount of Tims in the team helps. Christie, McGregor and Armstrong is a crackin Celtic midfield.

I completely understand the jaundiced view which many Tims hold.

But the attitude of huns will never stop me feeling the way I do.

I was there the day the hun crowd booed wee Jinky and chanted for Willie Johnstone or perhaps Henderson to be brought on .

    Willie Ormond obliged.

  23. Fairhill Bhoy

I understand, I’m just Scottish and that trumps their behaviour. Even more so when there are so many players I like playing.

  24. Gerryfaethebrig on

I don’t support McLeish or any of the Sfa, but I am delighted the team are winning and delighted for the Celts, ex-Celts & future Celts that are playing
