Boyata transformation is beyond belief

840

When we signed Dedryck Boyata, while simultaneously losing loanee Jason Denayer, I heard that bullish comment from Celtic Park “We made Denayer into a regular Belgian international and we’ll do the same for Boyata.”

Teenage Jason Denayer was part of a record-breaking Celtic central defence.  Fast and skilful, there was little chance parent club Manchester City would allow him to extend his stay in Scotland.  Dedryck was older, had played less football, and City allowed him to leave for £1.5m.  The claim that we could make him into a Belgium regular seemed fanciful.

Belgium are the top team in the Fifa rankings.  Getting anywhere near this squad is an achievement, but Dedryck is now a regular fixture.  When Jason Denayer made a late entrance in the game against Iceland last night, it was captain, Vincent Kompany he replaced, not the Celtic central defender.

Dedryck has only been at Celtic three years and the early months of his time here were memorable for an own goal against Malmo and a very poor performance away to Molde.  His transformation is beyond belief.

  1. Surprisingly I enjoyed the Scotland game tonight. They played to the players strengths and the performance of the Celtic trio was really heartening.

Great Scotland result and a wonderful ” get Eck out of jail “performance from the Fab 3.

From my perspective, I always want Scotland to win, especially when Celtic players are participating.

Worked on that case and could give you a hundred stories. No fan of the polis but many guys came in on their days off to work that case. Scumbag claimed political status!

  5. I had a foreign language link tonight and I thought the Albanian no 7 both looked and behaved like a Sevcoite – lo and behold when I finally Deciphered who he was it turned out he really is one – what a slimy creature, if they have a player profile he fits it to a T!

  7. Christie was my man if the match, just ahead of Forrest.

Jamesie would have been MotM if that suit galloot of a manager hadn’t moved him to the other side to accommodate a player coming on in that position.

How many times? Play players in their correct position. Either sub him to allow someone on in that position or bring on a sub who plays on the left, don’t weaken your team. Numpty.

And CalMac was tremendous too. I’m sure I lip read the conversation in the dugout which went along the lines of…

Numpty: Who’s that guy in the middle making tackles and spreading the ball around.

    Pointer: Eh, Eck. That’s McGregor.

Numpty: Really? (pauses for thought). Well tell him to get back in goals. I don’t like my keeper that far up the park.

  8. Having bet Scotland to win (at -1) and also having bet there to be 3 or more goals in the game I feel morally obliged to invest my winnings in a new Scotland top. Also, (a) my current top is the 15+ year old ‘Diadora’ one and (b) if God spares me I fly to Lanzarote next Wednesday.

    Thoughts?

  9. My Irish brothers and sisters, tonight you beat the world’s best.

I couldn’t be more proud of you.

  10. Jamesgang: Surprised yours is the first comment on Ireland’s great win. I might match Jobo’s exuberance and invest in an Ireland rugby jersey.

  11. SOOOO we hope and pray Scotland keep winning.

They qualify for the Euros and McLiesh and the suits are deemed a success.

Him for winning, them for appointing him.

Why do some Celtic fans refuse to attend sfa sponsored comps if the above is what they want?
