Brendan and Peter will tell the Dedryck and Jason story

289

Jason Denayer played his first senior football during his 2014-15 loan season at Celtic.  Before that season ended, he was a full Belgian international.  We tried to retain him, but parent club Manchester City wanted him to go elsewhere.

There followed a season at Galatasaray, then Sunderland (where he played central defence, full back and central mid), before going back to Galatasaray on loan last season.  His last appearance for Belgium was in the quarter finals of Euro 2016, a defeat to Wales.

While City would not loan Jason in 2015 they sold us Dedryck Boyata instead.  Dedryck made a 45-minute cameo appearance for Belgium as a teenager in 2010 but didn’t play for his country again until near the end of his first season at Celtic.  Belgium were preparing for Euro 2016 at the time but decided against his selection.

While Jason drifted out of the national team picture as he dodged around Europe on an enormous wage from Manchester City, Dedryck is in Russia.  He has earned less money than Jason since leaving Manchester City, but his achievements are far greater.

These things matter at this time of the year.  Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell will speak to players and agents and will relay this narrative.  Come to Celtic, become a better player, win things, and gain international recognition.

Jason has two years left on his Manchester City contract, when he will be 24, but he needs to find another Celtic to put some wind beneath his wings, if he is to make it to the top.

Gary67 American national team is miles better than Scotland’s. In Canada, our national team needs work, but now More kids play football than hockey, so the game here is improving.

*and more kids are playing soccer than than football in the States, why?, its cheaper and safer.

MLS is improving all the time, while the SPFL has gone backwards since the 80’s.

*absolutely both the bin bag and Scotland’s top goal scorer flopped in the MLS, only concern here is that Mad Vlad and Kim the Tims BFF disnae like Canada or Mexico right now.

  2. usa to host 60 games, canada and mexico 10 each.

not sure what country(s) get a free entry.

If Toronto hosts one of the 2026 games, I suggest that we have a CQN hootenanny in TO that week!

  5. Just heard from an impeccable source that Edouard has signed a permanent deal with the club.

Once again players motivation differ some may want on the field success and medals so they can look back when they have retired at there medals and remember there success.Others it is all about the money football as we know for most players is a short career so they move around clubs looking for the big money and when they retire they will be wealthy enough to never need to work again. I dont think there is a right way or a wrong way for a footballer to chose the decision is down to the individual.Football is an ever changing game and unlike in the 1950s when teams very rarely changed personnel we are now in an era where there is constant change. H.H.

Debatable if USA soccer team is better than Scotland’s at present. They’re in the easiest confederation to qualify from and they couldn’t even get past Panama.

    ****

Scotland are 42 in the world, while the US is 25.

Until this tournament (and it was a shock that they didn’t make this tournament), they had been at every world cup since ’86. On the other hand, Scotland has qualified twice in that time.

    *****

The decision has nothing to do with football and supporters and everything to do with money. Its FIFA’s raison d’etre. A corrupt organization lining each others pockets.

What next, Europe as a continent to hold the World Cup, then the whole of South America, Africa, Asia????

    ******

From what I recall, there werent’ a lot of countires bidding …. I dont know much about Morrocco’s bid, so I cant really say much about whether it was a good bid or not …. but, as to your point about corruption… in football, I’m shocked. FIFA… UEFA … SFA … football is not on the level.

Korea and Japan shared a world cup before, and that seemed to work okay..

The Tour de France now goes into England, and Belgium, and no one seems to have died….

International co-operation is the way of the world …. Borders are meaningless… (which might be a good thing for the Scottish football team… maybe we can steal a few germans or french to play for Scotland!)

I believe that Morocco hosted the 2013 and 2014 FIFA Club World Cup …. are we saying that they were awarded both of those tournaments dishonestly as well (probably, if FIFA is involved…)

I read that in terms of Moroccos bid, 9 of the 13 stadiums still had to be built. There was quite a debacle and a lot of worry over stadia in South Africa, Brazil and Qatar for their respective World Cups and it makes sense to go with a stronger bid with the infrastrucute already there.

The joint US/Canada/Mexico bid will also make billions more in revenue. This fact has been mentioned negatively on here, not quite sure why. Its a factor that must be considered but its not the only factor.

Seems like perfect timing also to continue the growth of the game in the States.

Personally, I dont have anything against Morocco … it is actually high on the list of countries I would like to visit …. and my favourite movie of all-time is Casablanca …

Sounds like Mike in Toronto has been on the crack and acid. Never heard as much nonsense from a supposed Celtic fan.

Bradley of Toronto better than broony… away you go for a lie down! USA better than Scotland and mls better than spfl… right you are mate! Retirement league and the USA have it east qualifying. Stick to the court stuff as you clearly know hee haw about “Soccer”

Top world cup scorer and winner?

Messi will do a Maradona and lead his team to victory, while topping the scoring charts on the way. (Yes… I’m a romantic … LM has provided me with so many great footballing memories, and has been such a joy to watch, I would love to see LM finally win the big trophy.)

DD … I did give a thought to Mr. Lewandowski as top scorer, but Senegal and Columbia might be hard nuts to crack.

  16. mike in toronto on 13th June 2018 2:16 pm

USA should always qualify for WC given the weakness of the CONCACAF confederation. Put Scotland into CONCACAF and they’d qualify, put USA into UEFA and they’d struggle.

European and South American countries were barred from bidding for the 2026 WC. Other countries know its a fix so why waste on a bid. Russia and Qatar has proven that.

Why should Mexico get their 3rd WC since 1970, USA their 2nd since 1994 when countries like England (66) and Spain (82) have only held it once, and the likes Australia or any of the North African countries have never had it at all.

We already know where the 2030 WC will be held and its 4 years until the decision.

  17. !!Bada Bing!! on

G67- Scotland would struggle to get out a BetFred Group….? but agree on MLS, it’s hopeless to watch

At least we agree on something ;-)

But for a wee stubborn manager who was obsessed with third rate English Championship players until it was too late we may have had a shot at the play offs for this WC

  20. mike in toronto on

Big Pierre … a very well structured argument. You have definitely convinced me.

I watch both the MLS and the SPL on a weekly basis … Michael Bradley is a terrific footballer …. up there with Claude Makalele and Neil Lennon, who are two of the best I have seen at being able to read and break up plays …. although SB has become a better passer than NFL ever was.

Mexico is ranked 13th in the world, but TFC beat two of their top teams on the way to the finals … had one bad game which cost them the title.

MLS is well run, and the standard of football is improving all the time…

Scottish football is stuck in the dark ages….both in the board room and on the pitch ….

*a couple of years back TO hosted the Pan Am Games (American equivalent of the Commonwealth Games), I volunteered for the soccer which was played out of Tim Horton’s Field, the old Never Wynne Stadium in Hamilton. First class facilities and venues all round, nothing was spared.

The Pan am head office is in Mexico City and they stated tat the TO games were the best ever. I have no fear of any of the 3 countries participating and for those that turn their noses up at the States, don’t forget it was them that the brits turned to after being snubbed for the current ones and the US were also snubbed for 2022. Lorreta Lynch and office helped bring down blatter and company.
