Brendan and Peter will tell the Dedryck and Jason story

289

Jason Denayer played his first senior football during his 2014-15 loan season at Celtic.  Before that season ended, he was a full Belgian international.  We tried to retain him, but parent club Manchester City wanted him to go elsewhere.

There followed a season at Galatasaray, then Sunderland (where he played central defence, full back and central mid), before going back to Galatasaray on loan last season.  His last appearance for Belgium was in the quarter finals of Euro 2016, a defeat to Wales.

While City would not loan Jason in 2015 they sold us Dedryck Boyata instead.  Dedryck made a 45-minute cameo appearance for Belgium as a teenager in 2010 but didn’t play for his country again until near the end of his first season at Celtic.  Belgium were preparing for Euro 2016 at the time but decided against his selection.

While Jason drifted out of the national team picture as he dodged around Europe on an enormous wage from Manchester City, Dedryck is in Russia.  He has earned less money than Jason since leaving Manchester City, but his achievements are far greater.

These things matter at this time of the year.  Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell will speak to players and agents and will relay this narrative.  Come to Celtic, become a better player, win things, and gain international recognition.

Jason has two years left on his Manchester City contract, when he will be 24, but he needs to find another Celtic to put some wind beneath his wings, if he is to make it to the top.

Labour considered walking out but quickly realised that it would undermine it’s commitment to sitting on its hands.

    We Are Brighton story…

One of the most drawn out transfers of the summer so far has been completed, with Connor Goldson leaving Brighton and Hove Albion for Rangers in a deal reckoned to be worth around £3.5m.

The Liverpool-supporting defender becomes Steven Gerrard’s fifth summer signing since taking over at Ibrox as he splashes the cash in an attempt to get to within 20 points of winners Celtic in the Scottish Pub League next season.

The deal could be worth over £5m with the Albion thought to have inserted a number of performance-related clauses as well as a hefty sell-on clause given that Goldson is rated extremely highly by Chris Hughton and his management team.

He’s even more highly rated by the Albion fan base with some supporters putting him on the same level as Franz Beckenbauer, Paolo Maldini and Bobby Moore since Rangers’ interest was revealed a couple of months ago, saying that it would be the worst decision in Brighton history to sell the centre back.

Much of this is due to his popularity and the courage he has shown to battle back from a heart condition and it is easy to understand emotions getting in the way, but in the cold light of day this is a good piece of business for all concerned, as difficult as it might be for some Brighton fans to accept.

The Albion are netting over £3m for a player who we signed from Shrewsbury Town for £600,000 and who has played only 32 games outside of the bottom two divisions of English football, with only half a season in the Championship as a regular. He managed one start and two substitute appearances in the Premier League. Even before his heart problems, he was unable to shift Shane Duffy or Lewis Dunk from the centre back berths in the first half of the 2016-17 season – we have essentially just sold a reserve centre back for the second biggest fee Brighton have ever received for a player after the £8m Leicester City forked out for Leonardo Ulloa in 2013.

It’s also an excellent move for Goldson, who needs regular football for the sake of his career, something he isn’t going to get with the Albion anytime soon. As nice as it would’ve been to keep him to warm our bench, at 25 he should be coming into the prime of his career and he’ll be more desperate than most players to make the most of it given that 18 months ago he nearly didn’t have a career. Standing in his way might have suited us, but it wouldn’t be what was right for Goldson and now he gets the opportunity to play in front of huge crowds every week and experience European football in the Europa League until Rangers get knocked out by the third best team from the Faroe Islands.

forget TFC, I put together a team with me and 10 of my pals in Toronto, and probably do better than that!

Similar to the pub league, my granny could win the league up there type comments we continuously get from those down south when they are slagging off Scottish football.

You don’t rate Scottish football, fair enough your opinion, although if it’s that bad why do you watch it (assuming you do)?

  5. Paris St-Germain have been cleared of breaching financial fair play (FFP) rules by Uefa, but the club will remain “under close scrutiny”.

Uefa opened an investigation into PSG’s spending in September.

It came after PSG broke the world record transfer fee in August 2017 when they signed Neymar for £200m.

PSG’s transfer dealings from last summer onwards, which could include the signing of Kylian Mbappe for £165.7m, will be monitored.

Reports in France suggesting the Edouard fee is 11m euro.

What’s that, £9.5m? Surprised of its that much up front, probably half up front, the rest in add ons.

You said earlier that Pedro wasn’t wasting his bullets on a moving target, with respect mi amigo, that’s bollix, he told you that he would fire them if you gave them to him, bottom line is he didn’t and prob has no intention of doing so, I would wager that he never thought that you could give him the bullets, we have heard garbage like the safety of employees is at risk if we speak out, WTF do we have a police force for ?

The club as you well know have all the info that could bring the sfa down in an instant, why don’t they ? what are they scared of ?

The game is as bent as a nine bob note, yet they partake in it, it goes against everything we are supposed to stand for, the older I get the more I want to give it all up, it’s not sport any more, it never was, but now we know and are doing nothing to change it, that’s what bothers me, money is the god, honesty and integrity don’t have a look in, sadly.

As I said, I admire your faith, I hope and pray it is justified.
