Every year we hear that January is a difficult time to do transfer business. Clubs are reluctant to allow top performers to leave midseason, but we’ve had some creative January activity over the years. Objectives for this month are clear.
We need to better prepare for our Summer Cup Finals. Trying to build a defence, or strike force, while simultaneously qualify for the Champions League is, unsurprisingly, tricky. Summer transfer windows are really two periods, the last days of the month, after European qualification has been taken care of, and earlier in the window, when limited volumes of business will take place.
We’ve done some great business early in summer months, most notably Virgil van Dijk, but instances like this are rare.
The most interesting aspect of this window will be how Ronny Deila is backed. He’s 18 months in the job now, long enough to come to an assessment of the wider scouting infrastructure he inherited. We’ve been underperforming on recruitment since January 2012. Ronny needs to buck this trend, and Celtic need to give him the necessary lateral.

I’ll be watching . I’m sure it will bring back memories of us starting up a wee team at Lochranza on the Ilse of Arran to take on the mighty Brodick and Lamlash in the summer league.

Maybes if we had a player that can play a forward pass to the likes of Scepovic who makes the runs, a player like Scott Allan springs to mind :-)

Read today he wants to go back to Gijon:((

Scepovic or Ciftci ?
Still trying to world out why we replaced Scep with Ciftci ….madness
Starry
He is very happy here, he didn’t want to come to us in the first place, but money talks.
It sort of dispels the myth that players won’t come to Celtic so it does.
HH
PFAyr
You and me both.
But when our scouting consists of D Utd and Manchester reserves, it makes sense.

How ya’ doing?
I liked SS, and still think he is a decent player …. of course, I was one of the few who was actually pleased about NC’s signing (so take what I have to say with a grain of salt…)
but, I I think NC suits the system that RD says he wants us to play better than SS …
the problem is, of course, is that the football that we are playing bears no relation to the style of football that was promised when RD joined ….

“It is an interview with a brain surgeon …..unbelievably fascinating….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ”
Dead right.
I just informed a Tim mate of mine who`s in a similar line of work.
Scepovic showed up well from what I seen, just got subbed to a standing ovation from Gijon fans, his former club.
TET-that was my next post,I think Allan playing in CM with SS up front would be better than we are doing just now
Bada
I have seen a fair bit of him this season, he works his bollix off, he is a very intelligent player imo, he has players round about him who are on the same level, and having reasonably honest officials helps a tad.
HH
MIT
doing fine
Not overly excited about work tomorrow ….after few days off
Thought Cifcti was a dumpling last season….my position remains constant
Enjoy your culinary extravaganza

Yip, I honestly can’t fathom why SA is not getting playing time, he has the makings imo, but no time on the pitch won’t help him or us, strange.
HH
PFAYR-Steptoe would do better up front than Ciftci, never mind Scepovic, the faither I’m talking about…….
Hope you’re well HH
TET
Smart player, I liked him then I liked Lassad as well:))
My Dad told me all about the Celtic.
About the 7-1 game , Lisbon , Milan .
He carried himself like a Celtic supporter should and acted accordingly.
Of course when I was a bairn he took me all over the country supporting our team.
I thought my Dad was telepathitic.
One of my real early memories was being on his shoulders in the Celtic end at Hampden for the 76 League Cup Final. Guy next to us had a steaming hot bovril.
He squeezed us further into the crowd away from the guy.
When I asked him why he said he had a feeling we were going to score and didn’t want me scalded by the bovril.
Sure enough seconds later King Kenny scored and serious burning avoided.
During his one and only period of unemployment he made sure I got to the games, even if he couldn’t afford to.
After a bad school report I was banned from games until I bucked up my ideas.
Of course he relented, a big softie.
Another one of his things if we were loosing or drawing was’ let’s leave 5 minutes early, it may change our luck’
We sloped along London Road, desperately wanting to hear a loud roar.
In later years he enjoyed hearing my totally unbiased !!! Match report when I got back from the games.
Dad’ s been unwell for 6 months and passed away on Sunday.
I was glad to have been able to give him one final winning report.
God bless u John.
My hero
Brain surgery.is Ok but it’s not exactly rocket science is it?
TET -I sit in the Main Stand Rear,on the few times SS got a game,as soon as the midfield had the ball going forward,he was on the shoulder of a defender waiting for a forward pass to run on to. But we only pass it square or back. When Brown got injured,Allan should have been told he was starting the next 6 games. HH

I liked him as well and Miku, but the scottish referees didn’t help their game.
Take the Derk man, I remember a game at D Utd, the ball came to him and a split second later a Utd player clattered him he saw it coming but couldn’t do anything about it, no foul, but the look on his face said it all to me, wtf am I doing here.
Till the club sort it, it will be the same old for ever.
I don’t hold with the pish that we will be ridiculed by the msm, what can they say, we are paranoid for wanting a fair, honest and transparent refereeing system, good luck with that, but it needs a stance that we will not deviate from.
Sort the referees, sort the problem.
It could be done at the stroke of a pen if the will was there.

So poor Rafa got the boot. Shafted. Seen that he was booed when his name was read out before home matches. And that Ronaldo and co just weren’t happy with how things were going.
What kind of supporters boo and heckle their own manager after a few bad results..?
Ungrateful sanctimonious gits.
Burghbhoy … condolences to you and your family.
Hail hail

What a fitting tribute to your dad. I’m sure he will be as proud of you as you clearly are of him.
So sorry for your loss but those memories will have you smiling when the pain eases.
God bless and take care.
THE EXILED TIM
I’m with you on that one we have seen a series of assaults on our players in the last few years, Kayal and Matthews come to mind, if you see those players as employees of the limited company it’s not a big leap to think that the bosses of said company wouldn’t want to protect their employees and indeed their investment.
Patrick and Hearts both got away with murder against us..
BurghBhoy, my condolences to you and your family.
That eulogy was a moving tribute to your Dad.
Bada
Possibly, but I would rather play him in the middle of the three, I don’t think he is cut out to play as a defending mid, but he should be playing imo.
Unless RD didn’t have any say and is not playing him to make a point, the point being he wants a bit more say on players who come in, just thinking out loud.
200 and odd K for the boy is small change, SSB are peddling the notion that he was bought so the hun didn’t get him, no idea, couldn’t care less, but the boy has it imo.

Your Dad sounds a lot like my old man and I guess many Celitic Dad’s who gave us our love of Celtic and a way of life to treasure.
Deepest condolences on the loss of your Father, may he Rest In Peace.
