Bucking underperforming recruitment trend

629

Every year we hear that January is a difficult time to do transfer business. Clubs are reluctant to allow top performers to leave midseason, but we’ve had some creative January activity over the years. Objectives for this month are clear.

We need to better prepare for our Summer Cup Finals. Trying to build a defence, or strike force, while simultaneously qualify for the Champions League is, unsurprisingly, tricky. Summer transfer windows are really two periods, the last days of the month, after European qualification has been taken care of, and earlier in the window, when limited volumes of business will take place.

We’ve done some great business early in summer months, most notably Virgil van Dijk, but instances like this are rare.

The most interesting aspect of this window will be how Ronny Deila is backed. He’s 18 months in the job now, long enough to come to an assessment of the wider scouting infrastructure he inherited. We’ve been underperforming on recruitment since January 2012. Ronny needs to buck this trend, and Celtic need to give him the necessary lateral.

With respect, that is total bollix.

Why the ef should it have to be that way ?

What is wrong with a level playing field, and forget it’s always been that way, that is hun thinking, it’s 2016 ffs not 16 feckin 90.

I agree with you that Hearts and Thistle ( in particular) did not kick us off the park.

I strongly disagree with your implication that we should accept biased refereeing.

Was it you who thought the foul on Rogic was the most obvious penalty of the three? If it was you, I am in total agreement. If it was not you , I am in agreement with whoever did say it 0:-)

  6. Burghbhoy – sincere condolences on your loss. I lost my dad a few weeks ago and whilst things are still a bit raw I do reflect on the great times we had and the conversations about our mutual love for all things Celtic. I am sure your dad had a great life and his memory will live long with you and many others – take care.

Have a few others for you btw, will mail you later in the week, just looking for value for your £.

Talking about value, Diesel has hit 86 cents today, that would be roughly 63p of your brit pounds, best it’s been for a few years.

  8. Melbourne Mick M arrived back home on Saturday, there are now two proud owners of your club shirts, mightily impressive they are too, thanks again. HT and Almore and any other interested parties the programme will be repeated on BBC Alba many times during the coming weeks, she has had a terrific response from Gaels and Celtic supporters all over the the world, the power of social media is truly amazing. If you could quantify just how much Celtic need to add just to establish a level playing field, we could increase that by 10, 20 or 50% to ensure 10 in a row. Now well have to pay loads more for that but, hey why not?

Hell we could even call it the Timmy X factor.

Alternatively, the game could be played as a sport and not some bizarre, loaded, fecked up charade.

    What do you think?

I’ll line you up to meet TD67… He’ll enlighten you.

TD67 is absolutely resolute in his defence of the current set up – something I can not see but got to hand it to him – he is faithful to the Board through and through.

Thoroughly enjoyed the documentary. Sad person that I am initially saw one of the managers in a Rankers 2012 hat and wanted them to get duffed. Then a few hooped shirts, the other manager waiting on Celtic to call and playing for the Jock Stein Cup changed that….go on the Westies.

You posted earlier that RD was part of the present problem, he could be, but unless the policy is changed, it will be the same old.

It’s the right way to go given the financial constraints imo, but it needs flexibility that is not happening, the rigidity is crippling us, we wouldn’t sign Lubo today no matter the cost, that needs changed.

RD is not the problem, the policy is the problem, it’s on the right track but it needs tweaked, imo.

The truth is that there are no celtic supporters who can give you an example of how ronny has improved the team….because he hasn’t of course.

There are plenty who will defend him for a variety of reasons

He is the manager of celtic,

    He needs more time

    His hands are tied

He needs to bring in his own players who understand his system.

It’s not his fault, it’s lawwell

    It’s the refs

It’s Scotland, they all hate us

Only Johnny come lately hun like glory hunters criticise the celtic manager

We are top of the league, what more do you want.

When we were young celtic never won the league.

He didn’t sign of the duds

He only picked ciftci ahead of Griffiths because ciftci was banned for league games and ronny had to give him game time in Europe.

    etc etc ad nauseum

  24. eddieinkirkmichael on

Cowiebhoy, why wouldn’t Celtic be wanting to sign last seasons Scottish player of the year on a longer deal?
