Bucking underperforming recruitment trend

629

Every year we hear that January is a difficult time to do transfer business. Clubs are reluctant to allow top performers to leave midseason, but we’ve had some creative January activity over the years. Objectives for this month are clear.

We need to better prepare for our Summer Cup Finals. Trying to build a defence, or strike force, while simultaneously qualify for the Champions League is, unsurprisingly, tricky. Summer transfer windows are really two periods, the last days of the month, after European qualification has been taken care of, and earlier in the window, when limited volumes of business will take place.

We’ve done some great business early in summer months, most notably Virgil van Dijk, but instances like this are rare.

The most interesting aspect of this window will be how Ronny Deila is backed. He’s 18 months in the job now, long enough to come to an assessment of the wider scouting infrastructure he inherited. We’ve been underperforming on recruitment since January 2012. Ronny needs to buck this trend, and Celtic need to give him the necessary lateral.

I think you do your fellow Celtic supporters a great disservice by suggesting that their views are formed by what they read or hear in the media.

The bhun media have always endeavoured to eat away at our confidence and, unfortunately, some of our support are influenced by this agenda, which results in the booing / general negativity in our ranks which, in turn, adversely affects our players’ performances / results……. I still smile when I think back on the ‘press’ Henrik got in this Country …..

  4. Morning all.

Yet again, we have a dreich day in store down here.

Looks like it is dreich on CQN once again. Imo, it is becoming glaringly obvious that the MIBs are doing their best to destroy any confidence our young players may develop. If they can find any way to nullify us, like denying us stonewall penalties or letting the opposition lick us off the park, they will do so. Look at the way we played once we had scored a couple against St Johnstone. The lhads confidence went sky high and they were able to display what they are capable of.

By the bye, I agree that Commons and Forrest shouldn’t be playing together. Actually, I don’t think Commons should be playing, as at best he slows everything down. Forrest does give us much needed pace.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Just finishing the last of my christmas malts, wee mhan’s off to scout camp

and I’ve got the iPad to myself normally he’d be pestering me to get on it

and he knows I’m a soft touch as soon as he says he wants to watch a Celtic

video on utube, with the wonders of modern technology which i know zilch

about his father has hooked us up to our new big 55″ tele and even wee Jinky

looks huge on it, but then Jinky was always a giant in my eyes.

Scrolling back to some of the posts I’ve missed over the new year period and

i came across some posts about the Sari Heid an old stomping ground of

mine and i think it was Hamiltontim and Calton Toungues who were discussing

the liquid dynamite that was shammy and tornado and it evoked some great

    old memories for me.

Back in the early sixties i loved when my da said ” were meeting your uncle Tony

and his bhoys in the Gallowgate” because i new when they went into the Sari the

march along to paradise was always singing and dancing all the way, after they

had been on the tornado of course, and when they were in the pub our job was to

count how many busses we could count going to the game and we had to tell them

as many of the clubs names we could remember.

In those days the busses would park all the way along the Gallowgate both sides and

when they eventually came out they would ask ” how many ? and we would just say

” Mullions da ” cause thats what it looked like to our young eyes.

And what names did you get?

    Cardiff da where’s that?

    ” Thats in Wales ”

” and Southampton ,Manchester and London and Dublin da i know thats in Ireland and

the other bhoys would be shouting Swansea, Torquey and one was called Stoke in a tent.

” Stoke on trent young Tony thats England ”

In my quieter moments i used to wonder what was this magical thing that brought all

these great people together ? and for our families who had never been out of Glasgow what

made them take these arduous journeys much longer than it takes nowadays to support

a team which had won nothing for years?

I call it the Celtic virus because once that wee bug is in you it never leaves and now here i

am on the other side of the world posting to great people from Germany, New Zealand,

Canada, and all corners of the globe.

I was trying to explain it all to the wee mhan before he went away and he asked

” Papa huv a got the Celtic virus?

” Wee mhan when you and your hoopie pals are at training and arguing with all they Man U,

Arsenal or Chelsea pals and not allowing them to slag off Celtic then i,d say you’ve

    definitely got the bug”

I think he wanted to hear that

That bug has a lot to answer for it has us all arguing and getting angry with each other at the

games or in the pub or even on the blog but id say its a clever wee bug because one way or

another its got us all talking about the club we love and thats what matters most.

    H.H Mick

  6. Bhoys, thanks again for all your messages of support, thoughts and prayers.

You cannot imagine how much they mean to me.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

    God bless all here

  9. Hamiltontim, Starry et al,

    Great game isn’t it?

The sitting midfielder is crucial. The only real one we have is Chas Muldini, as the other are all forward going players, but he lacks pace.

What I’d prefer is that everyone realises that protecting the centre of our defence is paramount, so if the game develops and the holder has to move out of the position, then the first priority of the other midfielders is for someone to ROTATE into that area, i.e. If holder moves to centre mid, centre mid rotates to hold, holder to right , right mid to holding etc

All the good teams do this. Again you get what you pay for.

I reckon our guys have the ability to do this but need to show the game intelligence/discipline/attitude to make it happen.

  15. What is the Stars on

    So

The latest ronny debate, which started last night when bgx asked could someone give an example of how ronny has improved the team in the last 18 months, the answer being of course NO.

anyway to sum up. …Ronny is great and it’s only Internet bampots who have never been to a game, egged on by the hurting msm ( I like the hurting bit) who call for his head. All part of the anti celtic agenda of the masonic establishment of Scotland.

You know what I must look up some player names and start reading match reports and log on under a new name and pretend I never miss a game and start a campaign to oust ronny.

Would the uber loyal fans unmask me

    Worth a try.

It’s dispiriting but I won’t rest until ronny is back in Norway, only a few months left

As for the Hitler bunker mentality of those who think our glorious leader is going to come good, if given more time, he is working on the super weapon to beat the Russians.

Ah that’s harsh I know. Hitler was a genocidal maniac who brought death and misery to millions.

The booing is deplorable, I hate it. However, howls of derision are nothing new.

Over the festive period I’ve watched a fair few clips of Celtic games of the past. One was an absolute tanking of St Mirren at Parkhead, I’m sure it was the one where McGarvey was unplayable and scored a hat trick.

Anyway, we were about 4-0 up and Murdo Mc lost the ball in the centre circle (he then won it back and we subsequently scored again) but there was a huge, negative reaction from the Jungle below the commentary gantry.

I’m sorry but I don’t believe this has anything to do with Celtic supporters being influenced by negative nonsense from the media.

  20. 67Heaven

At no point have I, or am I, suggesting that you’re not entitled to an opinion. We simply disagree, that’s all.

The CT are far more interested in influencing Celtic than the Celtic support.

  21. Parkheadcumsalford

If we are allowing the opposition to lick us off the park, then we really are too soft!!

  22. I’d venture an opinion that, if anything, when the vast majority of Celtic fans read the press, listen to the radio etc, if anything, it serves to strengthen the opinion that they already hold , namely that they want to put the boot in to us whenever the opportunity arises. As to believing their poison? You do a great disservice to any Celtic fan with common sense if you believe that.

I saw your post yesterday where you mentioned that many of those around you feel that Commons is finished. Conversely, in the company of Celtic supporters on Saturday night after the game, the feeling was that he’s being wasted by being played in a wide position and that Ronny is not using him to greatest effect.
