Carter-Vickers, asset management and some hope

336

Celtic last broke their transfer record four years ago this week when they paid PSG £9m for then-20-year-old striker, Odsonne Edouard.  Yesterday’s deal to acquire Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham will almost certainly exceed this.  The initial £6m valuation will inevitably rise to £10m.

Cameron was our best defender last season and without him, the job of retaining the title, or competing in the Champions League, would look significantly more difficult.  He becomes a permanent Celtic player at 24, having spent four years on loan in the lower leagues in England before a temporary year at Celtic as part of Ange Postecoglou’s new regime.

He is 17 days older than Odsonne.  In asset management terms, he is a generation ahead of where the striker was when he arrived here from PSG.  In age terms, Cameron is closer to where Christopher Jullien was when he came to Celtic as a 26-year-old.  This means a lot of scouts have had a look at the player and none in the English top-flight have moved for him.  We can, therefore, hope he could be a mainstay in the Celtic team for some years to come.

The defence still needs work but we have paid a solid foundation this week.  Welcome to Celtic, Cameron.

I do think the “big” international teams treat the nation league games like friendlies

Although without bringing politics to the blog if Engurlund had to win in Qatar wee Nicola would skoosh Amy referendum :-)

    BT is a handsome dude!

    I thought you’d be pleased!

    Hope you are good mate!

  3. The Republic today scored more goals (3) than they did over all of their previous TWELVE Nations League games put together, (2), NONE of which they won. That’s how bad Scotland were.

    All good mate

I did have a 2nd take and thought for a minute this “stranger” in the middle of argyle street might have taken offence to my initial hug

Thankfully am confident in my initial instinct and can usually source good Tim’s …. Well apart fae my Rangers supporting missus … my radar must have been wonky back then

    :-)

    No harm done then!

Mibbe you don’t have a lot of friends who are tall, dark, handsome and ,err, slim……like me!

  6. Personally I struggle to find the attraction with mediocre games being forced upon international associations who are forced to choose players who are basically worn out. But as things would appear they’re tied to a contract that suits the powers that be. Meanwhile people are expected to pay good money for poor football across the board. Like everything in the modern world of sport it stinks. The man in the street should bin it on the telly and see where it takes us. In case you’ve not not noticed we’re having the pish taken out of us across the board.

You could have stopped at “don’t have a lot of friends”

    :-)

The other week was a cracking wee afternoon, although I think me & TLT are the youngsters in that company …

When I told the missus about meeting you in argyle street she said “how did you remember who it was” I told her there is only one Celtic fan from CQN that looks like a young Tom Sellick (sic)

    that’s our Philbhoy :-)

When Liverpool won CL in Istanbul, Kewell was injured most of the season, he convinced Benitez he was fit for the final…..subbed early for the same injury …..if they lost he would have been hunted out of there the day after

    Loving Gia … but

Kyogo and Maeda are going to run defences ragged

    They “never stop”

  10. When Dave angel played his set in the Awesome Metro, there were only about 2 people going Mental/Tonto whatever ye want to call it.

Annie Lennox & the Utah saints … whooft

We all love Kyogo … he is infectious… Dazien is durst pick for the Japanese first team … after winning the league at Tannadice I loved all of our Japanese bhoys our doing their warm down … I think it was more to do with helping Idefuchi (sic) … brilliant attitude .. I think Ange has the whole team in a very good place .. as you know I love Neil Lennon and still do but Ange like Martin or Brendan deserves his own shot and like most Celtic fans absolutely loving it … work hard play hard … still think Callum is our modern day maestro :-)

And that is high praise indeed

    Happy days 🍀

  14. Gerry, if weget Jota and a few other signings……

I just want to Bloody the noses of the Biggest teams on the Planet. Aye right!!!

    Ajax git Curtley Ambrose

The Huns done well in Europe .. hard to beat and hoped to score off a set piece … I would hate Celtic to post like that … but would love us to be a bit more savvy in Europe … we got more points in the group stages than the Europa world beaters but I do think Ange has signed me better than some give him credit for … Betis & Leverkusen away … should have won both … but that’s the “Marc” … CRC … the best roller coaster you could ever ride :-)

In my opinion this season has been excellent … the 3-0 in February against the cheating Huns was a lovely night … only downside I had £5 on Abada hattrick at 275/1 … then our mob took the foot off the gas on the 2nd half … by the way in the Conference I thought Bodo were one of the best performances at Celtic park I have saw from an away team in a long long time … but I think our players were a bit naive and took them lightly … we had 17 shots on target that night and scored 1 … think they had 4 on target and scored 3

(I might have just made those stars up) … but it was something like that

  16. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Disappointing day for Scotland but we’ve got to take the positives.

Steve Clarke deserves credit for supporting Calum McGregor’s bid to break the world record for most minutes of football in a five year period.

All other midfielders have either been rotated or subbed this summer.

Even our captain marvel, that short statured full back, got an early finish last week.

    But not our Calum.

    Way to go.

Was really funny, watching Bale talking about players having to play so many ganes,an absolute charlatan……

  18. Good morning from a cloudy but dry North Staffs.

In competitions like the European championship and World cup teams like England are top seeded and play teams like us or Gibraltar in qualifications.

The Nations league on the other hand groups teams of similar standard – maybe that’s why they’ve only got 1 point from 3 games.

    Scotland are merely dreadful

  19. First offer refused for LB,supposedly,so now off to the market, not to buy a fat Pig,but for a bit of Breakfast and Sunday meet up with wur Chinas.

  20. BADABING In my opinion players are playing to many football games ,in my Early Celtic Supporting days early 50s the one big tournament every 4 years was the the World Cup,but all of a sudden UEFA appears greed creeps into the game along with Sky Sports ,next thing along comes Fair Cities Cup and others, but if players think they are playing to many games then have the balls to tell there clubs and UEFA enough is enough, and who is this UEFA and who pays there salaries.
